Sending London patients to Yorkshire

DeRigueurMortis · 30/12/2020 01:44

It's been reported that due to capacity issues in London there is a proposal to send patients to Yorkshire.

London has more beds per capita than anywhere else in the country.

The nightingales have been dismantled.

In Yorkshire the rates have been high but (depending on north/south/east/west) brought into control though harsh lockdown. Those in tier 2 have been buggered by being inundated by Covid tourism and will be tier 3/4.

So Yorkshire is on the verge of it's own disaster with less beds per person than London and being overwhelmed by London cases before the local community can get a bed in their hospital.

Is it right that this should happen?

@EttaG

how is it the fault of Londoners right now that Yorkshire doesn't have enough beds for its population Because Londoners are being shipped up north and filling them all?
That isn’t the fault of Londoners, that is the fault of a government Londoners didn’t vote for.
Charley50 · 30/12/2020 11:37

London is almost the only part of the country that voted Labour in at the last election.
So sick of hearing people from Yorkshire morning about Londoners. Over Xmas on here Londoners were blamed for rushing off to Yorkshire, when it's obvious that the people rushing off to Yorkshire were from Yorkshire. Blame the government that you voted for, not Londoners.

You do realise that MPs in parliament are not solely elected by London? Do you have an MP yourself?

I can't believe how moronic your answers are. Londoners haven't been shipped anywhere. A request has been made – nothing has been agreed yet. Frankly, after reading your comments and that of others on here, Yorkshire would be the last place I'd want to end up now. Your attitude to letting Londoners – you know, actual human beings, just like you and your children – die is sickening.
Hoppinggreen · 30/12/2020 11:38

We were in T3 when London was in T2 and our rates were lower.
However, this not the fault of the people without a hospital bed in London

Do you feel equally disgusted when children with cancer are ‘shipped’ to London or Birmingham?

I am curious though, can you please share the information you have that shows people from London are filling all the hospital beds in Yorkshire?

jillypill · 30/12/2020 11:39

@EttaG some of them may be foreigners & not even Londoners 😱

I know. I doubt that native Londoners said 'Fuck it, I'm heading to Yorkshire for Christmas - they're the only ones who can do proper Yorkshire pudding!'. It was always people going home.

I live in London, but I’m from Nottinghamshire, they better ship me to QMC when I need medical treatment otherwise I’ll be an evil bed stealer 😂

StrugglingICUnurse · 30/12/2020 11:40

@CherryRoulade speaks sense and is clearly in a position to be aware.

Many hospitals are taking patients from many parts of the country. My small ICU in the south is taking overflow patients from Kent and Hampshire. Were we worried about bringing in the new variant of Covid? Yes. Did we refuse? No. Were we worried about running out of capacity for our local patients? Yes. Did we refuse? No.

jillypill · 30/12/2020 11:41

bed stealer, bed stealer! it will be a chant 😆

jillypill · 30/12/2020 11:41

My mum will have to put back to sea & shes an immigrant, no space here!

emilybrontescorsett · 30/12/2020 11:41

Jebus, don't bring the foreigners into it!!

Though my neighbour from Hungary did say that he was heading to Yorkshire for Christmas to try out real Yorkshire pudding. may not be true

@EttaG

EttaG what do you think should be done then? If there aren’t enough beds they’ll have to stay at home. The government divided us into tiers and gave some more freedom and benefits than others. Then suddenly when London is in the shit they want us to be one country again.
So if you or a relative need a hospital bed when your nearest hospital is full, will you yourself stay at home/try to make your relative stay at home instead of seeking medical treatment?

If you have birth to a premature baby you would leave them to die if you had to travel out of area to NICU?

jillypill · 30/12/2020 11:43

If there aren’t enough beds they’ll have to stay at home.

Do they have to die quietly too?

"If there aren’t enough beds they’ll have to stay at home."

And sod it if they die, presumably?

Congrats, you win the prize of being the most heartless poster I've ever come across on MN.

TableFlowerss · 30/12/2020 11:44

Well it’s saves lives at all costs isn’t it so it fits with the current model so I don’t see why it shouldn’t happen! Unless of course you just leave them to get on with it?!

jillypill · 30/12/2020 11:45

You can't really be that stupid. Medically we have always done this.
