Where are people catching it?

Presumably people in Tier 4 are hardly using public transport, the buses in London are empty. Schools are off, pubs are closed. Everyone I know is obeying the rules, possibly going for outside walks with one other person. Where is this massive spread coming from?

OP posts:

I know of families where they exceeded the 6 on Xmas day, and where they meet in groups for a walk not 1:1. They 'appear' to be 1:1 but really they are several pairs of people who then stand around chatting.

Purplethrow · 29/12/2020 21:58

@Ranald I don’t think people are more likely to catch it from non essential retail than essential retail but non essential retail being open means more people are going out for unnecessary reasons.
It’s a difficult balance though , trying to keep the economy and businesses going but also keeping people safe.
I work in non essential retail, for what is meant to be click and collect but the rules are being broken.

londongirl12 · 29/12/2020 21:58

I've caught it from work (office setting) or the supermarket

DuchessofDerbyshire · 29/12/2020 21:59

@TammyHullfigure

*Of my friends and family in Tier 4:House parties with 17 others (photos on instagram!) Birthday parties with eight friends round from four households A few of the girls just popping round for a curry Five households round on Christmas day Extended family staying for two weeks over Christmas and New Year. Going out for dinner and drinks in a nearby Tier 2 area.*

Did they all catch covid, and have you verified that's where they all contracted it? Or.... are you just spouting crap?

why is what she says 'crap'?

The more people mix, the greater the risk AND many are asymptomatic so the OP wouldn't know- and neither would they- if they were infected.

You do understand that 1/3rd of people are asymptomatic, don't you? But every person then goes on to infect 2 others, on average,

So there we have it.

Why are shops colluding with people rule-breaking?

MrsFHolmes · 29/12/2020 22:00

The cases I know of: primary school; university flatmates; visit to A&E

TammyHullfigure · 29/12/2020 22:01

Perfectly, thanks! But the question is "where are people catching it?" Not, "how many people have you seen breaking the rules?"

callistography · 29/12/2020 22:01

Schools.

Franklyfrost · 29/12/2020 22:01

I saw 37 adults, not social distancing and drinking, in a rural car park on Christmas Day.

Frazzled2207 · 29/12/2020 22:01

Everyone I know who’s had it caught it at school/hospital (job not patient) then spread it to the rest of the household.

WOW!

Just want to put this out there.. between march and August .. we all isolated.. no shops open no schools open no pubs open... everybody followed the rules.. we were told that if we followed rules then hopefully all would be ok by end of summer.... the numbers stopped going up and no new cases were found for about a month round about August (in north wales anyway cant remember what england was like) ... but then this happened and its now got even worse.. so people saying "we all just need to folow the rules, its not hard youre all selfish!" What will happen if everyone sticks to the rules? It will go away again for a few months then come back with vengeance .... and im a person who believes in lockdowns etc... but would it work? And how long for???

ekidmxcl · 29/12/2020 22:03

2 of my brother’s friends just tested positive. They are both teachers. They must have got it from school and it took a while to show and then a smaller delay for results.

@londongirl12 We believe that's where my DH caught it. Unfortunately he was one of the unlucky ones who didn't survive. He had type 2 diabetes but otherwise he was very fit. He was only 62 so not old.

Please do not take risks people. This virus kills

You really don't know?

They catch it from other people who have it and probably don't know. And who are mixing and breaking the rules. So, wherever people go.

It can be on packaging, coins, ATMs, handles and doors- anywhere that people touch when they are out- as well as breathing the virus out. Masks don't prevent it 100%- they help a bit.

Canyoncall · 29/12/2020 22:05

@ruthW My daughter caught it in a secondary school. She's a teacher.

I hope she's well and receiving appropriate care (if needed) but where is your evidence?

Until the most vulnerable are vaccinated.

@DuchessofDerbyshire , trust me, I’m furious at the management who are turning a blind eye.

MadameBlobby · 29/12/2020 22:06

Hospital
Care homes
School
Supermarkets
Workplaces

At a guess

TammyHullfigure · 29/12/2020 22:06

FGS, yes I know!

SeasonFinale · 29/12/2020 22:07

Have you been in a supermarket recently? People still try to lean over you to get things.

acsec · 29/12/2020 22:07

Me, DH and DS16 all tested positive on 27th December. Didn’t test DD4. I’m a teacher, DS at college, DD at nursery, DH been wfh but had a hospital appointment last Tuesday. So, looking like school or hospital here.

Prior to tier 4 I would think

Plus the numerous 'You can't tell me what to do' crowds.

user1471565182 · 29/12/2020 22:10

Getting a bit bored of following these rules for months on ends when it seems the ones taking the piss are the ones moaning about it the most.

PimlicoJo · 29/12/2020 22:11

I went for a walk in a local country park yesterday. I saw a group of about 30 young people sitting at the picnic tables, drinking wine and beer and hugging each other. I really feel for young people during this pandemic but this made me despair.
