Where are people catching it?

Presumably people in Tier 4 are hardly using public transport, the buses in London are empty. Schools are off, pubs are closed. Everyone I know is obeying the rules, possibly going for outside walks with one other person. Where is this massive spread coming from?

One person I know caught it at work (train driver) and passed it on to his wife. Another caught it at school (teacher) and infected his wife. A friend of mine lost both her parents to it in two different hospitals. They picked it up there, and sadly died.

Notnownotneverever · 29/12/2020 21:40

I would say schools just prior to breaking up for the holidays and then passing it on to their family members based on the people I know with it. But also people are meeting in large groups - several households - outside and clearly think as they are outside it doesn’t matter and they don’t need to socially distance and they are walking side by side a couple of feet apart. Very frustrating. I couldn’t believe my eyes on Sunday when my household only went for a walk together. It was the busiest I have seen in my whole lifetime at this particular local nature reserve.

Workplaces, inter household, hospitals - at one point I read around 25% of positive Covid cases were nosocomial.

Schools

3 I know before Christmas,
one family secondary school
one shopping
one family work related.

Most of the people I know aren't aresholes, so have stopped socialising.

CarolEffingBaskin · 29/12/2020 21:43

Schools, Hospitals, Care Homes and Supermarkets. There is little to no spread outside of these areas.

TeddysTigerEyes · 29/12/2020 21:44

1 friend a primary teacher (8 staff had positive tests), passed it on to her husband and 15 year old through home. One hospitalised with liver problems caught it there and died.

CantSayJack · 29/12/2020 21:45

Zero social distancing in supermarkets and local playgrounds full despite Tier 4 in area.
Also local shopping precinct has all coffee shops open, restaurant open as serving hot drinks and food to take away and groups of people stood outside in all areas chatting with no masks.
That’s how.

ArabellaScott · 29/12/2020 21:46

Remember the time lag. 5 days for symptoms to show, generally about a week after that for cases that worsen to require hospital treatment. So we have a rough fortnight lag.

Cases from schools etc are showing up now. Xmas cases will start to show in about a week to ten days.

I made one post to point out the poster was being vile. What on earth are you talking about?

If someone posts nasty comments people are going to point it out. Doesn't matter what side of the argument you are on. Unless you are working to secondary playground rules of engagement and even then that is only the 5% of kids.

non essential retail masquerading as 'essential'
Eh? How can they be catching it any more from "non" essential retail to "essential" Confused

Of my friends and family in Tier 4:

House parties with 17 others (photos on instagram!)
Birthday parties with eight friends round from four households
A few of the girls just popping round for a curry
Five households round on Christmas day
Extended family staying for two weeks over Christmas and New Year.
Going out for dinner and drinks in a nearby Tier 2 area.

Amazon! They are distributing covid with their parcels, well they seem to be the only winner in this pandemic! 🤔🤔🤔
I think you are on to something Wink
RuthW · 29/12/2020 21:52

My daughter caught it in a secondary school. She's a teacher.

If your argument had any logic, what would be the point of closing non-essential shops?

The point is, the more people mix, in queues at tills, or in shops with no ventilation, the more risk and infections.

People are still queuing in and shopping in places like B&Q, Wilko, The Range, M&S, and so on. Just because those shops sell DIY stuff ( essential?) or food, but people break the rules and browse for clothes, try them on, or just go out shopping because they are bored at home.

outofthemoon · 29/12/2020 21:55

Schools. 4 families near me, all have dcs at local secondary and primary.

starrynight19 · 29/12/2020 21:55

Schools, took a week for me to show my symptoms from school and 9 days to get my positive test result. Then it’s the spread to their family’s.

Did they all catch covid, and have you verified that's where they all contracted it? Or.... are you just spouting crap?
