Where are people catching it?

Presumably people in Tier 4 are hardly using public transport, the buses in London are empty. Schools are off, pubs are closed. Everyone I know is obeying the rules, possibly going for outside walks with one other person. Where is this massive spread coming from?

@yeOldeTrout

This is new on my social media feed. It's the 1/3 statistic that surprised me. Do they mean people who NEVER get symptoms?
Yes. 1/3 of people with coronavirus have no idea they have it.

So, to put this into perspective. Today approximately 50,000 people tested positive. That means that there are another 25,000 out there who also became positive today, but have no idea.

Even if you follow the rules it's still possible to contract the virus. If you simply stay at home you may still be receiving post, parcels and food deliveries. Do you wipe down everything including the contents of every parcel? Did you hand sanitiser before opening presents and handling their contents? Do you use hand sanitiser before you pick up the petrol pump? If you are in a bubble with someone can you be sure they have been washing their hands and using hand sanitiser - have you touched anything in their house? It's very hard to completely live germ free.

I'm not sure it is doing us any good as a society to blame those who contract it or blame the virus's spread entirely on rule breakers. It's not been eradicated by lockdowns and it's adapting and changing. We still have to see the impact of Christmas on the curve of infection rates and hospital admissions.

Schools and factories and home settings in our town. We have gone into tier 4 but it is not the same as the first time. I work for an estate agent and we are open. Lots more shops and restaurants (as takeaways) are open.

From mobile phones obviously Grin

Uni students coming home. Schools. I often see retail staff without masks and ubers are still busy. Supermarkets arent quiet and lots of non mask wearing there too. But according to mumsnet these people all have terrible disabilities otherwise of course would be wearing them. And we certainly shouldn't say anything about it.

Plus social distancing isn't logical. If you are in a smallish area are all breathing in the same air then of course you're going to pass it on.

PrincessNutNuts · 02/01/2021 08:02

My friend swears blind she hasn't seen anyone indoors except her own household. No kids. WFH. Both got covid.

Funny how it's often the same people who say we don't have to worry about covid because it "only a problem for those very few people with pre-existing conditions who were going to die soon anyway" who are also mutely claiming to have pre-existing conditions in order to swan around the supermarket, often in large family groups "exempt" from masks. Hmm

Did she go Christmas shopping or to the supermarket?

You will be amazed what poor ventilation does its why they say to open windows even at home but nobody really seems to pick up on it!

Bathroom12345 · 02/01/2021 08:34

I had a friend who swore they hadn’t been anywhere. Bar the supermarket numerous times and seeing her wider family constantly. They didn’t count because they are family and the supermarket was an essential trip....

Bathroom12345 · 02/01/2021 08:37

They all caught CV19.

I heard someone on the radio saying he had been shielding since March- then went on to say the only people he sees are at the local shop every day...

Bathroom12345 · 02/01/2021 09:52

Some people really are clueless.

I saw the news on NYE where a load of young people were being led out of a party in a flat. Thick as mince although I would have liked to hear them justifying why they were doing something so reckless. Presumably they then go back to their equally stupid family who knew where their kids were going.

Sorry to sound so negative but these people make me sick.

treedragon · 02/01/2021 10:48

It’s it time the government started informing people where people are picking g this up so we can all then avoid such places or make better personal choices.

I’ve not set foot in a supermarket or shop since 20 March and now just rely on deliveries. I never bothered before but now am a total convert to deliveries so will carry on. If schools are a problem at least say do parents can choose to educate at home.

treedragon · 02/01/2021 10:56

I don’t believe for a minute the government don’t know where people are picking this up from. What the danger activities or higher risk activities are.

treedragon · 02/01/2021 11:13

We need tighter restrictions, schools closed and curfews. Only things essential to life in operation. Pharmacy2u delivers medicines snd other pharmacy things so do you don’t need to go out for that. If people flout the rules remove their passport for 20 years so they can’t leave the country to go on holiday or for work They are stuck in Merry England. Also remove their driving licence. The very threat of losing those freedoms that also lead to work should be enough.

Purplethrow · 02/01/2021 11:19

We’ve had new neighbours move in and they have been having people round all the time. 🙄

So you don't want to compromise your safety but your quite happy for others to compromise theres for you! Ie the delivery drivers and supermarket workers who pick your shopping? 👍
JanBanjoVi · 02/01/2021 12:05

Other people socially distancing helps overall.

That includes the delivery drivers and shop staff, bus drivers, train guards too.

@GrapeLipBalm

What bastards MazAds. Angry Hope you are ok.
Thank you, it was less than two weeks after I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer - I went back to work quite quickly knowing I needed to keep busy, then this! And two weeks stuck at home with my thoughts 😢

They only need to get a delivery to their door and can catch it from packaging someone infected has touched.
lljkk · 03/01/2021 23:59

Well, this is a good one, I hadn't thought of this, but it's ruddy obvious.

Especially if you tell people to get oximeters & "get it checked out" and how dangerous the virus is, etc.

10:58pm on Radio5 tonite, guest who works in urgent clinic said that..

People just walk in to the urgent care centre to say "I have covid and I think my breathing isn't very good, could you check me please?"

So that's an easy way to expose others. I'm sure they don't mean harm. They didn't party they stayed at home... until they got scared.

Unsure33 · 04/01/2021 01:01

The recent ones I know of were at work . And then took it home and then household mixing .
