Sorry cross posted with others there.

Sunshinegirl82 · 29/12/2020 16:54

By specimen date it isn't quite as alarming. Obviously we would want numbers to be lower but the Christmas break will mean that the reporting is a bit delayed. Graph from RP131 on Twitter.

They are ‘cases’ where most people are perfectly healthy. The tests are not fit for purpose & detect old viruses.
Very low rates of ‘asymptotic’ people passing on the virus.
We’ve been had.
Protect the vulnerable & let the rest carry on with our lives.

CKBJ · 29/12/2020 16:56

Individual days are inaccurate at the best of times but with Christmas and new year they’ll be even more inaccurate. Looking at the near 23% increase over a 7 days shows clearly we are not in a good position. Lockdown like March is needed and yes that unfortunately means all schools and nurseries as well.

Zoflorabore · 29/12/2020 16:56

Wow.

My 17yr old ds and his dad had to get a test on Sunday as they were due to attend a football match last night and that was part of the deal.

They went to one of many in our city and got the results back in 30 mins. My ex ( his dad ) told me that every single one he had tried to book in at was full and they went to one out of the area. These are supposedly for people with no symptoms!

And yet they were all full. My mum went to a different one last week and it was empty, as did her husband.

I think many have waited to get Christmas “out of the way” as what else would explain the sudden increase in uptake?

As it was, ex and our ds were both negative but the match was called off as the opposite team had positive covid cases and it was postponed.

Aixenprovence · 29/12/2020 16:56

"The dashboard shows cases by date reported and also by date tested which gives a more accurate figure (albeit with a lag)"

Interfectorum does that enable you (one, I mean!) to see if the percentage of people testing positive has changed? I was just asking on the data thread - do we need to know the increase in total test numbers as well, in order to see how much is the 'real' increase in positivity - is that figure discernible/calculatable from the dashboard?

Armi · 29/12/2020 16:57

Well, I don’t know about all my fellow professionals, but as a teacher I just can’t wait to get back into the classroom now.

LizzieSiddal · 29/12/2020 16:59

We’ve been had.

How do you explain the massive increase in hospital admissions due to covid?

murbblurb · 29/12/2020 16:59

deniers - may you never catch it. If you have anyone you care about, may you never feel the terror of waiting to see if their condition will worsen. May they not suffer in a hopelessly overloaded hospital with no visitors or help.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/12/2020 17:01

47 of the 53 are from England

Aixenprovence · 29/12/2020 17:01

Ah - ignore my previous question, i see the dashboard just updated and the number of tests didn't increase much in the 7 days to 28 Dec (0.5%).

WhoWants2Know · 29/12/2020 17:02

I'm not sure how many of the cases can be from healthy asymptomatic people who just happen to be getting tested. Even the Zoe app only prompts you to get a test if you have symptoms of some sort, even if not the three main ones.

paxman · 29/12/2020 17:03

It’s obscene.
Where is BJ? Or MH?
Why is this just being reacted to then simply accepted?

starrynight19 · 29/12/2020 17:03

This is going to be horrendous in terms of number of deaths in a couple of weeks. Those poor nhs staff and the family’s who will lose someone.

Make sure you look at the "data" tag by specimen date. We have actually averaged 35K over the last seven days, so many of those 50K are from days previously not reported due to lag and xmas.

Yes, the daily test numbers are on the dashboard too under all testing data, then data to show daily numbers.

Don't know if there's a lag in test numbers like there is with other data though.

squiddybear · 29/12/2020 17:04

@Strawberrypancakes literally every news outlet. BBC has a story

Unescorted · 29/12/2020 17:04

covid dashboard here You can look at numbers by all sorts of filters.

InterfectoremVulpes · 29/12/2020 17:05

@Strawberrypancakes

Where are you getting these numbers? I just read this out to DH and he said he can’t find it from a google search.
Government dashboard : coronavirus.data.gov.uk
MrsHedgeLegs · 29/12/2020 17:05

Because most people are in hospital for other reasons & catch covid in hospital.
Yes I’ve had Covid-19. Had worse flu before.
Protect the vulnerable don’t destroy our future because of a disease with a 99 percent survival rate.

ramblingsonthego · 29/12/2020 17:05

I will of had 5 tests over 3 days (2 yesterday, 2 today and 1 tomorrow) as part of a vaccine trial. If they all come back positive that will only be 1 case but I wonder if it will be counted 5 times 🤔 There will be others in the same trial as me, so if they have had symptoms (and the list for the trial is very different from the government trial) they also will have to do that many tests over 3 days.

phlebasconsidered · 29/12/2020 17:06

Oh that MrsHedge is such a laugh.
I wonder if she'd like to come and teach my class on Monday? Lots of schools need volunteers because, you know, the army can only help by phone. I wonder if that says anything....

Yes it does cases increased 22% testing increased 0.5% over the same 7 day period.
