The thing is that there are areas in the world where schools are back and the graph doesn't do that. In order for schools to be open, though, you need high compliance everywhere else. And the goodwill is all gone in the UK. If it was ever there in the first place. You also need luck, and the UK didn't have that either.

My friend lives opposite our local hospital so I'm getting "loads of ambulances parked outside, doctors in PPE going into them" WhatsApp reports.

😔 That tallies with the news reports.

So many people on the school closure thrreads/online seem blind to this. Or have an "Im alright Jack" attitude to it.

Yukay · 29/12/2020 07:43

We were tier 1 until the whole of Scotland went into tier 4

More interestingly -look at the hatched area which shows what deaths typically are at this time of year in this area. Completely in the normal range. Tier 4 area.

That last graph is quite clear the covid deaths are on top of the "expected" deaths.

However with the virus spreading theres other knock on effects- my children havent seen their specialist dentist, others have had knee or hip ops postphoned, etc etc.

We need to get the virus down so the hospitals have capacity. Its serious!

I'm in Scotland. Everywhere now in level 4 from boxing day and for 3 weeks. Schools not going back until 18th - online from 11th.

@m0therofdragons

Really important to look at the numbers on the left. Mine looked like a big spike but it’s 35 and only goes to 50 on the graph by op’s graph numbers are far higher. Where are you op?
Thanks for this, I went a bit panic blind and then noticed my numbers on the left only go up to 25.
LynetteScavo · 29/12/2020 09:28

Lockdown 2 seemed to halt the spread here. Cases are high, but until even more people are actually dying the government will keep schools open while stuffing the economy.

We were Tier 2 until Boxing Day. I don’t even know anyone who has had Covid at this point. I work in a school and we have had no cases and none in DC’s schools either.
