Would this be a lockdown similar to the one in March?

@FoodieToo the schools are shut now til the 11th January. If the R number which is now between 1.6 and 1.8 isn't brought down I can't see the schools reopening on the 11th.

Yes but that's a recent announcement - as in last night ! Was wondering how you knew last week .

Gut instinct and having working in a hospital previously @FoodieToo. I said it to my two sisters and they didn't believe me either. Unfortunately I was proved right. I was also an inpatient on a trolley awaiting admission for a major surgery in June 2016 and had major surgery postponed by a week in June 2017.The hospitals can't even cope in summer when it's quieter! I was also in the A and E Department of the same hospital in March this year 4 times and there were empty trollies lined up in the corridors and loads of staff with no patients to look after. And even the junkies and drunks who usually frequent it were scared and avoiding the place! If I hadn't had to wait 6 or 8 hours for my condition to stabilise I would have been in and out literally. Even Dr. Holohan said it was quiet when he was admitted as a patient. This is winter and there is always a shortage of beds anyway. Obviously Covid is making that shortage a lot worse and we dont have the capacity either in ICUs or the wards plus a lot of staff are off with Covid or isolating. The whole situation is a disaster.
