Government apparently considering tier 5?

Would this be a lockdown similar to the one in March?

I’ve just googled and a whole load of media outlets are reporting on Tier 5.

Already much discussion of this on the coronavirus board.

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/12/2020 17:11

Ive been to tier 1984, horrible place

CharitySchmarity · 28/12/2020 17:12

i What is Tier 5? Everyone stays in a vacuum-sealed pod for a fortnight?

Yeah, the government will drop food packages on you (it's pot luck whether you get meat or veggie).

Alice190720 · 28/12/2020 17:13

@HughPewBarneyMcGrew sorry I didn’t realise there was already a thread about it Blush

Ponoka7 · 28/12/2020 17:14

I think they are just avoiding calling it a full lock down.

YABU to post this spreading scaremongering outside the Coronavirus topic.

Dullardmullard · 28/12/2020 17:19

Wait thought tier 4 was the highest?

yeOldeTrout · 28/12/2020 17:20

I like tiers. I think it's great the govt is trying to cause minimal economic harm with a flexible local approach. The economy isn't City FatCats, it's hairdressers, builders and childminders trying to earn a crust rather than rely on the state (be keyworkers).

Thank Goodness we have so many vaccines that seem to work. Gives me hope this situation all must subside by June.

vanillandhoney · 28/12/2020 17:21

@Dullardmullard

Wait thought tier 4 was the highest?
They've put tier 1 as tier with the least restrictions precisely so they can go up as high as they want.

Remember tier 4 didn't exist a few weeks ago. They added it on when it was clear that tier 3 wasn't working.

Nonamesavail · 28/12/2020 17:23

No ones listening here and I'm tier 4

SansaSnark · 28/12/2020 17:23

Surely the only thing left to close is schools and universities? So I guess tier 5 would be school closures?

I don't think it's impossible- no.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/12/2020 17:24

There was a tier 3 * for some places. Don’t know what it meant.

AldiIsla · 28/12/2020 17:30

It's not even leaks now is it? It's just them telling journos so we already know when they do the Downing Street announcements.

AndcalloffChristmas · 28/12/2020 17:34

Ridiculous. Surely tier 4 hasn’t even had a chance to make an impact yet?

If it’s a lockdown they should just call it that.

fassbendersmistress · 28/12/2020 17:42

@vodkaredbullgirl

Hmm scaremongering post.
I think 9 months into the pandemic, it isn’t really scaremongering to raise this question.

Tier 5 inevitable I think in certain parts of the country. Schools closed and curfew most likely.

loulouljh · 28/12/2020 17:47

Like the previous tier 5s (lockdown) have worked!!! Isn't the definition of madness doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result..

CallmeAngelGabriel · 28/12/2020 17:47

Calling "scaremongering" is just another way of shutting down any sort of debate that might make Covid-deniers feel foolish uncomfortable.

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/12/2020 17:48

Why don't they just go for a full lock down again.

roses2 · 28/12/2020 17:49

@SansaSnark

Surely the only thing left to close is schools and universities? So I guess tier 5 would be school closures?

I don't think it's impossible- no.

There are also the services that stopped in March - cleaners, builders etc. Even in Tier 4 there are a lot of house to house services that are still taking place.
Fatladyslim · 28/12/2020 17:52

The big question on everyone's minds... Will Mcdonalds cost again?

Fatladyslim · 28/12/2020 17:52

*close ffs

BrumBoo · 28/12/2020 17:55

It's a word I hear less often now, but at the start of the pandemic, every other covid post was 'scaremongering'. 'They're telling people to self isolate after travelling, 'they said they may close workplaces and schools', 'masks will become compulsory', each met with 'scaremongering'. Some people just want to deny any and every possible sanctions rather than accept they are a realistic possibility.
vanillandhoney · 28/12/2020 17:57

Those services never had to stop in March - a lot of businesses were forced to close because they weren't making any money, though. I was allowed to operate March - June but I had no clients as everyone was staying at home. You've always been able to go to work in other people's homes.

DeadGood · 28/12/2020 17:57

@CeibaTree

These tiers are getting ridiculous now. When the govt first announced them, Tier 3 was the ‘highest’ - are they just going to keep adding them until they reach Tier 50? Just lock the country down if they have to, but they need to stop making up these nonsensical Tiers.
Yes. 5 tiers is really too much for the layman to get his head around 🙄

All of these tiers were invented. Not that long ago. If tier 5 is nonsensical, then so are tiers 1 2 and 3.

Of all the things to get worked up about!
