Or just just being said as scare tactic? What else could they really stop people doing?

@HerrWanksock

Thank fuck I don't know people like some of the ones on here IRL. It's a virus, it's gonna virus. An airborne one at that. All of you wanking yourselves into a frenzy over how much better other countries have managed with their strict mandates? Do you bother to look at the actual data of those countries that you laud or is it only Oz and NZ that get you going? Those islands miles from fucking anywhere with a really low density population. Deaths per million for so many places now starting to look incredibly similar regardless of measures. Exception being SE Asia - where they tend generally not to be fat fuckers like us here in the west - plus possible T cell immunity from SARS.

But no, on you crack, demanding harsher and harsher measures. Presumably either securely WFH or on furlough (newsflash, if you're still on furlough you probably no longer have a job). In the meantime, selfish fucking covidiot that I am, I'll keep campaigning for schools to be open because stats like a rise in head trauma of 1493% to children during LD1 upset me just a little bit. Or 316,000 missing cancer diagnoses compared with last year. Or the small matter of £2trillion national debt. Or unemployment up by a million already. Or 140 million hungry children in the world as a result of lockdowns (selfish twats going on holiday feed those children). Or Bristol University's prediction of 560,000 lives lost long term. The list goes on, and on, and on.

But you're right, bring the army in, ankle tag us all, compliance is key.

And don't come crying to me if you end up one of those statistics listed above. If you vote/scream/demand for harsher tougher measures you deserve everything heading your way.

In the meantime I'll carry on, living my life and going out spending my money locally as much as possible in the vain hope I still have a town when this shit show is over.

But yeah, I'm the selfish one.

Smile hallelujah.

So would this essentially be the same as the first lockdown then ? On another thread someone had suggested that people would be able to leave the house for exercise. I would really hope that wouldn't happen .

Ifailed · 29/12/2020 07:52

tradespeople could be banned from doing routine work with only emergency repairs allowed.

The whole point of routine work is to prevent emergencies, that's why you should have your boiler serviced every year, or would you rather wait for it to blow up taking you, your family and the neighbours with it?

Underhisi · 29/12/2020 07:57

"On another thread someone had suggested that people would be able to leave the house for exercise. I would really hope that wouldn't happen ."

Some people like to suggest things that would cause maximum misery but would have no bearing on the spread of the virus.

There will not be a lockdown stricter than lockdown 1, I even wonder if that would return tbh.

Those posters calling for the ultimate strict lockdown (akin to Spain) are coming across as rather deranged in my opinion.

Try telling British Gas that. They refused to service our boiler despite us having a cover plan. We cancelled and went to a local company who were happy to service the old boiler and fit the replacement despite us being in lockdown at the time.

You hope people wouldnt be allowed to leave the house for exercise? Confused
Surely that's less ofa risk in terms of catching the virus than going to the supermarket....although some want to ban that as well.

quirkyquails · 29/12/2020 09:27

Plus, there isn’t even an actual Tier 5 (in England) anyway. So why not keep your fucking knickers on until there is?

Errm, why wait? It'll have been banned by then.

islockdownoveryet · 29/12/2020 09:30

@Katie517

God some of you really want to go down the whole papers to leave the house, time limits on exercise route don’t you? People suggesting your driving license gets taken away if you leave your area?!?! Are you people actually insane? People will not comply with this, the police will not enforce. Tier 5 being spoken about is basically tier 4 with schools closed that’s all! So why don’t you all take your scaremongering fantasies and predictions and keep them to yourselves as there are actually people on here who will believe you and destroy their mental health some more by worrying about it!
Yes This was all suggested last time and it never happened. At the very least it'll be a lockdown like March with schools closed for a few weeks at the most .
islockdownoveryet · 29/12/2020 09:31

@AgentCooper

All these countries with harsher measures (like France, Spain)... they didn’t get rid of the virus, did they?
Quite right , stopping people going out for exercise is ridiculous. Staying indoors will make your immune system weaker and you won't be getting the vitamin d you need .
shinynewapple2020 · 29/12/2020 09:36

@MistleTOEboughski

I don't think they will go any stricter than lockdown1, it would make a big difference to spread if they just shut schools and don't do anything more, and even there they are reluctant to do it. They just want to keep cases below the level where hospitals can easily be overwhelmed.

This seems a sensible response .

Reading the rest of the thread there are some posts I can't tell if it's a joke, conspiracy theory or people are actually being serious .

HerrWanksock · 29/12/2020 09:36

The useful way to utilise the military right now would be to have them manage vaccine roll out. Look at the Nightingales when we brought them in, these guys are experts at strategy, logistics and deployment.

I read this morning that the target of 1 million a week wasn't enough and we should aim for 2 million. The article was written in a doom and gloom way but all I saw was a challenge laid down - use the army and do it! The second the Oxford vaccine is approved. We could have everyone done with dose 1 in a month!

PinkFondantFancy · 29/12/2020 09:40

Just come back to this thread and read my post here . There is a typo changing the meaning .

I meant to say other people were suggesting we would not be able to go outside to exercise and to be very clear I would never support any banning of outside exercise.

We all need something to keep our sanity . I'm in no way a fitness fanatic but I need to get outside for a walk every day even just for 10 minutes . Indoor exercise is one thing if people are being asked
To isolate / quarantine / positive test etc but on a day to day basis we need to be able to get outside .

theDudesmummy · 29/12/2020 13:32

South Africa has gone back to many aspects of first lockdown including banning alcohol. Things can and possibly will go back to full lockdown in the UK...

KarenMarlow3 · 29/12/2020 13:39

Tiers are making very little difference. People go by their own judgement ( or no judgement at all in many cases). There is almost no enforcement - unlike in France, as another poster mentioned.
Trusting people to use their 'common sense' has been shown to be utterly useless, so unless enforcement is brought in, the number given to a tier is irrelevant.

nosswith · 29/12/2020 13:51

@KarenMarlow3 I agree about enforcement. For example, travel where not permitted, you should appear in the magistrates court (to allow you the basics of justice and tell if there really was a genuine reason) and then points on your driving licence if guilty. Police roadblocks at certain places, or even the military.

southeastdweller · 29/12/2020 14:06

What's the point whining about how enforcement would help? It would mean jackshit in the UK which is why the government would never announce it.
