Why are so many people on MN so gleeful at the prospect of them shutting again? Aren't we focusing on the wrong age group to impose weeks/months more isolation and crappiness on? Why does everyone seem so happy at the prospect of shut schools?

mumsneedwine · 28/12/2020 11:17

I'm not happy about it. But my colleague is dead. And 6 more are in hospital, 3 in ICU. Does that help ?

Beebityboo · 28/12/2020 11:19

Because I'm in the minority that probably will require hospitalisation and I'm still being forced to send 2DC into school with threat of fines/off rolling. Glad everyone else will be alright though Hmm

Glitterynails · 28/12/2020 11:21

But some will.
I don’t want schools to close as a teacher and as a parent. BUT I do want them made safer for everyone.

SoscaredforJan · 28/12/2020 11:22

Do you work in an environment where you sit in a room, often with no windows that open, no PPE with 30 other people for 6 hours a day??

Thought not so don’t be so bloody selfish.

Focus your

SoscaredforJan · 28/12/2020 11:23

Focus your moaning on the government for not spending a penny to make schools safer.

phlebasconsidered · 28/12/2020 11:23

I think the OP could perfectly well read all of the other well argued threads on this or search up noble's posts and statistics if they wanted an actual answer, as opposed to a bit of a bitch about those darn teachers.

IndecentFeminist · 28/12/2020 11:23

I do work in the above environment, and don't want school to close.

Blackdog19 · 28/12/2020 11:24

Best hope your DC/you/your family and friends aren’t in the minority then OP. I don’t think anyone is happy about it.

ragged · 28/12/2020 11:24

There are enough threads about school open/closed issues already. I don't think there's anything different to say.

If the world was like MN,
Remain would have won in a landslide.
Tories would have no hope of being in power anywhere.
Babies would never get ears pierced.
All children would be "above average" academically.
Smacking your child would attract a prison sentence.
Everyone would be extremely fit by cleaning their home 16 hours/day.
Except the ones who remain stubbornly obese by eating > 600 kcal/day.

I'm just grateful MN is so unlike the rest of world, tbh.

EachDubh · 28/12/2020 11:25

Basically safety measures in school are hand washing. We don't know how many kids, carers, teachers will require hospitalisation and their families etc. Keep schools open but measures to reduce risks need to be implemented somehow.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 28/12/2020 11:25

If you think hospitalisation is the only serious negative consequence of catching Covid, you are a very stupid person

motherrunner · 28/12/2020 11:25

May I ask what you do for employment?

I teach 150 pupils a day, only wear masks in corridors, rooms are small and poorly ventilated. If this was your working environment would you still be writing that post?

mrshoho · 28/12/2020 11:26

Just who the fuck is gleeful? In your twisted mind you are saying this and shit stirring as usual.

ineedaholidaynow · 28/12/2020 11:26

Why do people read posts about schools closing and think people are gleeful about the possibility of them closing? I read them and see that people are concerned about their safety. Have some people got different reading skills to me?

It’s like all the posters saying at the beginning of September saying teachers wanted schools closed. Never seen a teacher say that, just wanted more safety measures in place.

PandemicPavolova · 28/12/2020 11:26

With the old strain I could see measures that may have helped the transfer reduce.

That would have included a massive gov campaign clearly showing the virus emitting from people's mouths, masks, proper masks, proper mask safety, open windows, increased heating, breaks every 40 mins to get the children moving to warm up, move the air and air the rooms with every window opened and every door.

Things like that....

However I am not sure if those measures would work with a new highly contagious varient.
So the viral load of 30 people in a room will increase, its viral load that makes people more sick, I'm not sure what measures would make every one safe?

starrynight19 · 28/12/2020 11:26

I ended up in hospital with covid caught from school.

AlwaysLatte · 28/12/2020 11:28

Because we don't like to see people die? Aren't you following the numbers?
Also because we'd rather like our child to survive if they had an accident or other illness but the hospitals were full or because the ambulance came six hours after that grape got stuck?

WorriedMillie · 28/12/2020 11:28

Because OH is clinically vulnerable, because I’ve known many, otherwise healthy people require hospitalisation
Because my teacher friends don’t feel safe going to work

Lucyandbet · 28/12/2020 11:29

Why aren't we focusing on protecting/isolating the over 70s? Sorry about individual circumstances but the vast majority of people in other age groups will be ok if they catch Covid.

OP posts:
Nerdygirl · 28/12/2020 11:30

Focus on preventing kids coming in with symptoms would help. There has been no proof of asymptotic spread as far as I have seen and studies like plus what the who said shows it’s unlikely

I agree that schools need to be made safer but a balanced approach to protect all including mental health is needed too

www.lifesitenews.com/news/asymptomatic-transmission-of-covid-19-didnt-occur-at-all-study-of-10-million-finds

mrshoho · 28/12/2020 11:30

You're like a broken record spouting the same old crap. If you haven't got it now there's no point. Just posting to stir up animosity yet again.

motherrunner · 28/12/2020 11:31

And again I ask what is your employment?

It’s been was to make these judgements when WFH or in a socially distanced office ...

motherrunner · 28/12/2020 11:31

*easy

Neolara · 28/12/2020 11:32

I don't want schools to shut, but I don't think it's going to be possible to bring numbers down significantly if they are open. Given that vacinations are now beginning to get under way, it might be a sensible tradeoff to close schools for a bit until the bulk of vulnerable people are vacinated.

Anon12345678910 · 28/12/2020 11:32

As the majority of DC, teachers and parents of school age DC won't need hospitalisation

Fuck the rest of them then eh? And their vulnerable family members? FFS
