and today I’ve had 6 phones calls from people telling me different family members have either died (2 from the same family) on a ventilator in hospital (1 only in her 40’s) or tested positive for covid (3).

Hi folks I have updated the table of councils on the www.covidmessenger.com homepage for anyone who wants to check their latest rate.

And I have also updated the new barometer on the homepage too. I feel like we could all do with seeing some good news front and centre - I know that nearly every council in the country has very high cases right now, but, there has been such a remarkable change in the week-over-week trend across the country.

A few weeks ago every council was "red" (cases rising week-over-week).

But now the vast majority are green (with falling cases week over week).

Out of 315 councils in England:

278 have falling cases week-over-week
36 have rising cases week-over-week

Isn't that good news. I know the rates are very high, as are hospital admissions (see here: www.covidmessenger.com/hospital-cases-v1/), but I feel we are starting to turn a corner with tide of new infections plateauing.

The falling cases will translate into easing of pressure on our hospitals in due course. It will take a little time..

Hope everyone is safe.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/01/2021 19:05

893 per 100,000, and that's an improvement.

Vargas · 18/01/2021 19:06

@Glitters100 - That is brutal, I am so sorry. Terrible news for you. Let's hope the positive tests you've heard about turn out to be mild cases.

NoseinBook3 · 18/01/2021 22:06

689 going down

NoseinBook3 · 18/01/2021 22:07

And that’s 1,548 positive tests

NewspaperTaxis · 18/01/2021 23:23

597 in Epsom & Ewell, Surrey.

There seems to be a decline but I didn't understand the figures as the previous week seem to be in the same date range.

Deaths from the beginning so far around 110 but I don't frankly trust those figures because I've found Surrey County Council to be very dodgy, v keen on the cover up when it comes to adult social care.
They can attribute care home deaths to all sorts of things.
