262 but only in tier 2, doesn't make sense when we're higher than some tier 4s.

What factors do they take into account when deciding on tiers?

nancy75 · 26/12/2020 21:52

@Tomatoes123

The cases are rocketing because they have ramped up testing again. Majority of these cases are asymptomatic. Normal/slightly elevated winter pressures in hospitals. Hospital patients are tested on admission then every few days. These are patients not admitted for covid in the main. We are being gaslit. Don't be terrified. Be angry.
My 35 yr old neighbour needed an ambulance a few days ago, due to how ill COVID has made her.

I know a 21 year old that had a heart attack due to covid complications (thankfully not fatal)

I know 4 other people in hospital, at the moment - 2 are old & not really expected to come out again.

It’s you doing the gaslighting

So are you confident that there won't be a rise in deaths in the coming weeks? Even after all we now know about this virus?
SleepingStandingUp · 26/12/2020 21:58

I'm bag in the middle of these, tier 3 for ages but looking at the cookies map, I don't think we'll hold out long in the Midlands before we get T4'd

791 in Kent.

Last week we were 550

Just a few weeks ago we were 18 ConfusedShock

BunnyBoilerRhian · 26/12/2020 22:04

1,153 South Wales.
On Xmas eve our field hospital was declared the busiest in the UK with beds running out. Not seen an update since.
It's absolutely dire here.
@LBOCS2, your death rate is so high! What is happening in Croydon?
Well Croydon University Hospital (Mayday) doesn't have the best reputation, I wonder if that is a factor.

zaffa · 26/12/2020 22:14

@fussychica

119 Wiltshire. Slowly creeping up, only a couple of weeks ago we were in the 70s. Hampshire our neighbouring county to the east has gone into T4 today. We are in T2 still but I suspect we'll all be in a national lockdown very soon, perhaps as early as 30th.
171 hampshire but very close to Wiltshire border (and have to head to Salisbury for all our testing). T2-T4 today - I can't believe the numbers and the way they are doubling - they were so low just two weeks ago. I would be surprised if you aren't in T4 by the end of the year - infections are spreading so rapidly
fairydustandpixies · 26/12/2020 22:17
 1. Tier 3.
wasgoingmadinthecountry · 26/12/2020 22:19

Our area of East Kent is sending ICU Covid patients to Southampton as they've run out of space.

Sedona123 · 26/12/2020 22:22

My council area is 1419 per 100,000. It's doubled in the past week. Not surprisingly we're tier 4. We definitely have the new mutation ☹️

Shops here have been unusually empty for weeks, and most people are really good at distancing and mask wearing in public.

The high rates seem to be due to people continuing to meet at home. Also, teens are not distancing at all/hardly any wearing masks on school buses/most likely unable to distance much at school.

Our growth rate is a bit bonkers, skewed slightly by the small numbers.

BBC:

Then to week of Dec 14th, 4 cases. 46 per 100,000

To week of Dec 21, 28 cases. 325 per 100,000

Very lucky we’ve been in level 1 for ages, but all of Scotland in level 4 from today, so a bit of a shock for us!

@Crunchymum I’m more worried about my 11yr old DD in secondary school than my 7 yr old in primary but I would absolutely welcome an extra couple of weeks of homeschooling, even if I WFH too.
My primary has isolated nursery, reception, yr1, yr2, yr3 & 4, plus more positive tests amongst staff & pupils since we broke up & DD’s primary had everyone out except nursery, reception & yr3 at some point since half term. DDs secondary stopped telling us unless we were directly effected & her friends school in Haringey has been part time since November.
DH is emergency services (not medical) & has had a lot of colleagues off in the last few weeks & is really stretched. It’s all starting to get worrying now.

nancy75 · 26/12/2020 23:38

It definitely feels more frightening now than it did in March/April

☹️☹️☹️

Our covid rates have really massively shot up in the last three weeks. Early December we had less than 200 cases per 100,000. To go from that to over 1400 cases per 100,000 in 3 weeks shows how contagious the new virus is.

If the new virus does continue to spread in England , January is going to be really awful.
