Hiya

How long did it take you to receive a covid test result.

DH did his 4 days ago but hasn't heard back. Are they still giving results out on bank holidays?.

Thanks in advance x

2 taken Wednesday in Northants and results back this morning! Negative. So 5 days.

DipanKrispanEven · 28/12/2020 14:02

Still waiting after a test early on the 23rd. If I phone to chase, does it realistically do anything in terms of speeding them up?

Devoilmum · 28/12/2020 14:32

I was told it’s go through today but that I’d likely hear today or tomorrow anyway. But I think it does move it along quicker.

I’ve not heard yet though.

Treacle200 · 28/12/2020 15:05

@Devoilmum I've called to chase. They said I will hear back within 3 days. If I don't hear back then it means they have been lost.

Devoilmum · 28/12/2020 15:11

@Treacle200 - they were able to confirm mine had been registered but just hadn’t been processed. The lady I spoke with located each and told me she’d sent them. Not sure what that meant exactly but just had the first text - negative. 3 to go.

Treacle200 · 28/12/2020 15:32

@Devoilmum That's promising that you have one result back. Mine was also definitely registered. They said that if I don't hear in the next 3 days then to assume the test is lost, but after 10 days I won't need to isolate any longer.

moveoverhogger · 28/12/2020 16:17

Just received DDs result (negative), she was tested at 3.30 on Boxing Day so just over 48hrs.

JinglesWish · 28/12/2020 16:33

Received my results from drive through test. It took 126.5 hours!! So test at 9am on 23rd, results at 3:30pm on 28th.

Thankfully negative, far too long!!

Treacle200 · 28/12/2020 16:53

Thanks for updating @Jinglewish. Glad it was negative.

Still hoping for mine to come in. I'm at 122 hours.

DipanKrispanEven · 28/12/2020 18:38

Nearly 130 hours now, still waiting.

What gets me about this is that potentially loads of people who have been in direct contact with infected people will be wandering around oblivious and possibly infecting several more because they don't know they should be isolating.

Treacle200 · 28/12/2020 19:16

@DipankrispanEven Did you test at a drive through in the south east too?

I would hope people would isolate until they get results. I certainly have since symptoms started.

Didiplanthis · 28/12/2020 21:47

Tested on Wednesday 23rd.. no results yet.. into day 6 ! I cant go to work without a result as a community HCP... we havent been given any lateral flow tests yet in primary care where we are seeing hot covid cases yet my colleagues in secondary care (but not acute hospital settings ) and no where near any known covid have access to them.... hmff.

Emmacb82 · 28/12/2020 21:49

Ds got results back today (negative) took exactly 48 hours

Dipankrispaneven · 28/12/2020 23:04

Yes, I did. Still no result.

I'm isolating, but the point is that unless and until I test positive other people I was in contact with before I was tested don't have to isolate and, if I have the virus and they have caught it off me without knowing it, they could be spreading it.

Treacle200 · 29/12/2020 07:18

Results in after 132 hours. Negative.

Blerg · 29/12/2020 07:37

Negative result received. 154 hours since posted, 6.5 days

Devoilmum · 29/12/2020 09:08

144 hours now and still waiting on 2 results, despite chasing....

Feelingfree · 29/12/2020 09:56

Received result this morning - positive - 135 hours.

Dipankrispaneven · 29/12/2020 12:33

Finally got the result after 6 days - positive Sad. Having waited so long, I only have five days officially to self-isolate (less than that if you date it from when I first had symptoms) and as I was self-isolating anyway as DH had it it makes relatively little difference. Main symptom is feeling like I've got a head cold - nose a bit runny, generally feeling like someone's been stuffing my head with cotton wool, a bit tired and lacking in appetite. No temperature or loss of taste, and the cough disappeared after a couple of days.

DH would like to know: given that he's already had the illness and is well on the way to recovery, does my positive test still extend his isolation period which was due to end at midnight tonight?

Trollsinthedungeon · 29/12/2020 12:48

@Didiplanthis I wouldn't get too excited about the lateral flow tests we had 100% negative tests across the trust so they thought they best check with pcr and the lateral flow tests had missed about 70% of a symptomatic cases. So they've scrapped them where I work

Feelingfree · 29/12/2020 12:57

@Dipankrispaneven my DD checked this with NHS COVID helpline as she tested positive first and has completely recovered and I’ve since tested positive. My result does not extend her isolation. As long as she is symptom free she can go out from Thursday, I have to wait until Sunday 😔

Dipankrispaneven · 29/12/2020 13:08

Thanks, @Feelingfree. DH will definitely be pleased about that!

whatswithtodaytoday · 29/12/2020 13:12

Posted a home test 11am on Sunday, received the result midday today (Tuesday). Negative. So 49 hours, not bad via the post! Essex.

Victoria6 · 29/12/2020 14:54

I've started to develop symptoms so I've been tested this morning, waiting for my results. DH tested negative but is still feeling symptoms. It is very odd.

mejon · 29/12/2020 16:15

I tested at a drive-through site yesterday morning at 10.30 and results arrived at just gone 5am this morning. Negative thankfully. Rural mid/west Wales.
