NHS App Alert - self isolate?

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 07:40

Can anyone help?

Yesterday afternoon got a notification from the nhs app that I'd been in close contact with someone with covid.

Then I had a text to ask me to fill in my details online which I didn't do. Then another one this morning saying someone will call me soon if I don't fill in my details.

The thing is I've not seen anyone apart from been in the supermarkets. I'm so confused. There's no way I've been within 2m of the same shopper for more than 15 minutes while doing my shopping so how have they worked this out?

How long where you in supermarket?

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 07:42

It says to isolate from 10 days since last contact and now I've got 6 days left so it is suggesting the 22nd I was around them which is when I went out shopping.

I'm in a bubble with my parent as I've a 3yo and a single parent. I can hold off shopping til New Year's Day if necessary.

In there about 30-40 mins

Sounds like these are two different things. The HNS app doesn't hold your personal contact details to pass on but has identified you have been in contact. NHS a track and trace must have your phone details either from a friend or a restaurant you have been to etc.

How long is the app telling you to isolate for?

VashtaNerada · 26/12/2020 07:45

I just came on to say the same thing! Except there have been zero texts / phonecalls / emails. I just opened the app by mistake and it said ‘isolate for six days’ which is the first I’d heard of it! When I track back to when the ten day period would have started I didn’t leave the house that day. And certainly haven’t been within 2m of anyone for 15 minutes since I finished work last Friday, just done a couple of quick shops where I’ve been in and out.
Is the app making mistakes again?! I don’t have any plans over the next few days but it’s still somewhat unnerving.

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 07:45

@Sunflowergirl1 I believe it must have my contact number from when I registered with the app? I don't know how else they'd get my number. The link then took me to gov where they want me to put my address etc in.

It only notified me at 3pm yesterday that I have to isolate for 10 days since last contact with them but the countdown said 7 days left to go, now 6 today.

Very interesting that ours both say contact was on the 22nd! Sounds like another gremlin in the system to me. Did you get phantom messages a few months ago saying there had been contact which vanished when you opened the app?

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 07:47

Yes it is unnerving. It states the algorithm works on being within 2m of the person for 15 minutes or more. That can't have been possible in the supermarket

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 07:48

@VashtaNerada yes I did get that vanishing notification!! I was half expecting it to be another one of those tbh. Not what I expected as I was about to tuck into my Christmas dinner!

I had a notification not to self isolate but they said possible exposure then straight away after it said my risk level was fine that they assessed and to carry on as normal. I worked out it must have been when I was in the entertainer.

Also fill in your details or you'll get Bozza at your door hammering it down! Grin

Ugzbugz · 26/12/2020 08:06

This is the third time I've seen what you are saying since yesterday, very strange!

Sunflowergirl1 · 26/12/2020 08:13

The app doesn't ask for your telephone number. It is totally secret who the identity of the app and phone is..that's why the gov resisted using this version for so long as they wanted to know who had been in contact.

Being texted...someone has given your contact details to NHS T&T...unless it is a scam to get your details...unlikely as it took you to the gov site.

You must have been in contact contact with someone ? The app might be yet another error and coincidental. I know someone that got an alert and it was impossible as they had been really poorly for most of the last two weeks a d hadn't even been out (not with Covid)

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 08:29

I really have no idea as I haven't been near anyone apart from the general public.

Would it have anything to do with the fact I have contact tracing enabled? Baffled

If you have to isolate until 31st wouldn’t that make you’re contact on 20th? Not 22nd. Does that help narrow it down? Someone has definitely given your details to track and trace so think about who has your number but hasn’t texted you directly

Coffeeandcocopops · 26/12/2020 08:50

This is why I don’t have the app blue tooth enabled. I used it to check in when pubs were opened. But I can’t afford to be told I’ve come into contact with someone in a 10 min shop in a supermarket. I don’t know anyone who has it on.

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 08:55

It says on this message 10 days since last contact with them. Now 6 days left so I can only assume that means 22nd unless I can't calculate. Maybe I should switch it off then.

Possible wrong number maybe, if it’s via test and trace? Does it use your name anywhere?

FiveMoreMinutesPlease · 26/12/2020 09:08

If you click on the number sent ie NHS tracing what does it come up with? It may be a scam.

Yes looks like it. You are relying on it being accurate.
ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 09:11

This is what happens if I try to call back. It does address me by first name in both texts

Test and trace is separate

from the app. The app uses Bluetooth and doesn't know your personal details. It will use Bluetooth to judge your proximity to others with the app and the length of time you were close to them. The 15 minutes can be cumulative so several periods of contact can add up to that time.

You also have a notification from test and trace so someone has given your details as a contact.

As you have been notified by both test and trace and the app then I doubt it is a mistake and you should isolate

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 09:22

I just find it hard to believe when I've not been around anyone who would know me by first name!

OP posts:
user1488819536 · 26/12/2020 09:22

I did test positive and had similar texts . Mine was def for me as they had my NHS number.
However, I was also getting texts for some one else with a similar name but spelt differently saying I'd been in contact with some one. I told them three times on the phone it wasnt me but still kept happening!

dementedpixie · 26/12/2020 09:24

Can you check the bit in the app that tells you when the checks were done. That will tell you when contact was
