Just thought I'd start a new thread for the north east lot as number 3 is getting pretty full!

@PennyDreadfuI hope you're ok and hope you don't mind me picking the thread up!

I sent my kids into school today Hmm God knows why

Someaddedsugar · 04/01/2021 19:42

Hi @StellaAndCrow ! Totally agree re the uncertainty.

@PusheenLove I could cry - DS came out full of life tonight saying he loves all of the team in his room at nursery and telling me all about his friends and he's never ever been that enthusiastic. Even the staff said they couldn't believe how he's just got on with it today as he's usually really sensitive to change and would take a few weeks to settle back in.

Just making our tea and trying not to feel too down about the whole thing.

Very jealous @PickAChew - I wish I'd thought of that Grin

Takeaways are allowed to stay open.

PickAChew · 04/01/2021 21:20

And (fingers crossed) nurseries can stay open.

Though that will probably go the way of SEN schools.

MissEWeatherwax · 04/01/2021 21:39

Yes, fingers crossed nurseries and child minders can stay open. SEN children should be able to access school, even if is part time. If parents want and need.

Someaddedsugar · 04/01/2021 22:07

We've had confirmation our nursery is staying open which I am so grateful for and appreciate just how lucky we are right now. They've added a closing line stating 'until further restrictions are brought in'. Not sure if they're covering their backs or they know something we don't!

Can't SEN schools stay open @PickAChew - I agree @MissEWeatherwax it should be a critical service available for parents at this time!

DS2's. like many, is only open for key worker kids and those deemed most vulnerable - they've stated on their website that an EHCP or being looked after child aren't automatically considered vulnerable by the DCC.

Hoping that, once we've got past the disappointment of no taxi, tomorrow morning, DS2 will eventually stop bloody growling. He's made himself hoarse :(

Someaddedsugar · 05/01/2021 06:43

Hope he's ok @PickAChew . It feels so unfair for those need/thrive on school and face to face education and support.

Sympathies to those of us suffering in different ways, but especially to those with children who are finding this so hard. As over 70s this new LD won't make much difference to us as we only food shop and exercise anyway, and I am pretty sure that my kids will still call in the garden so we can see the GC through the conservatory window. I appreciate that we are very lucky.

May I recommend the Northumbria Gazette online for up to date info on the county for those of us who live there. The coverage is excellent and quite often gives the individual wards' figures.

Florelei · 05/01/2021 09:25

Good morning all. I hardly slept a wink last night.

I’ve been thinking that things must be really bad for us to be locked down until March at least. I’m not sure how I’m going to get through it.

Plussizejumpsuit · 05/01/2021 10:50

I feel like crap today and had a temp/sweats in the night. So I'm going for a covid test soon. I have ongoing issues with my sinuses. I'm hoping it's just a flare up of this. But wanted to check.

So this isn't helping with the overall back to work and lockdown crap.

@Florelei do you have support at home?

Florelei · 05/01/2021 11:45

@Plussizejumpsuit - I hope you’re ok.

I’m just struggling to cope a little bit. I’m just focusing on getting through one day at a time. I do have some support.

The awful weather doesn’t help. Roll on spring when things ought to be a bit brighter hopefully.

PickAChew · 05/01/2021 12:10

Fingers crossed for you @Plussizejumpsuit

I've taken advantage of 99% of the ice being gone to go for a walk - the first on a week. Boring pavement walk but that's safest for me, tbh!

Lots of other walkers, mostly looking pretty pissed off with everything.

Plussizejumpsuit · 05/01/2021 12:17

I'd be surprised if it was covid but I think I should check. I'm absolutely knackered and have to drive about 8 miles from home to great park to get tested. Just had a big coffee to keep me awake.

@PickAChew enjoy your walk! It's always when I'm ill I think I should walk more, but that's a thought for another day!

I'm working half day today as I do sort of freelance and normally work on one project today but I'm saving my hours for later in the month as there's some reporting to do but don't have the info yet. So it's come at a good time. Think I'll go to sleep later.

Someaddedsugar · 05/01/2021 19:56

@Florelei Thanks hope you're ok. Do you anyone outside of your house you could meet for a walk?

Hope you're ok @Plussizejumpsuit - hopefully it's just a bug!

@PickAChew I'm so pleased the ice has gone! I went for a walk with DS and DDog this morning as it's a non-nursery day and it was lovely to be able to walk without sliding. Although I will say the calm mood it brought on was sharply ruined by DS screeching through a Teams call I was on!

@NUFC69 lovely that your DC will come with your grandchildren. I do think the hardest thing is not being able to see family. I haven't seen my DSis and her partner since last July and it's been really hard. We video call etc, but she says she feels like she's missing so much of DS growing up as they change so much when they're little. I have said not for her to worry - she can come and babysit when the restrictions are lifted an we'll go away for the weekend Grin

Florelei · 06/01/2021 07:36

@Someaddedsugar thanks - i can’t really meet any of my friends for a walk because I live with someone who is shielding. Hopefully things will be better soon. We’ve just got to get through the next few weeks.

How is everyone today?

Plussizejumpsuit · 06/01/2021 07:44

Got my test results at 7am it's negative!
So just a crappy sinus infection. Which I'd obviously prefer.

Just feeling poorly and having to work as the lockdown means I will have to make various changes to projects I'm working on. When I just want to stay in bed. Nevermind up at at it in a sec...

Hope everyone is doing OK.

NUFC69 · 06/01/2021 08:32

Morning all. DH has just got his latest negative (Vaccine volunteer, so he does them weekly) so I think we can assume we didn't pick up anything on Christmas Day.

Someaddedsugar, this morning I am going to start reading a chapter a day to two of my GC via WA. Is this something that your mum can do with your children to keep up the connection? I do hope it's not too long until she can babysit for you again. We were supposed to be looking after my daughter's children so that she and her husband could go away for their tenth anniversary last April. My son in law booked me for this April at the time it was cancelled - who knows what will happen?

MissEWeatherwax · 06/01/2021 13:18

Anyone else not happy about the snow. I hate it. Won’t even be going for walk today.

NoseringGirl · 06/01/2021 14:30

@MissEWeatherwax I love snow but we don't have any! I'd happily swap with you! We've just had rain and a bit of sleet. We did have some epic hail yesterday. I was out on a walk with the kids when it started. They'd been complaining that it was cold and they wanted to go home but as soon as the hail started I couldn't get them back inside, they were loving it!

PickAChew · 06/01/2021 15:24

I got dh to drive me to the (deserted) arnison centre this morning. Just enough snow to be horrible to walk on. Not even enough to be pretty.

Someaddedsugar · 06/01/2021 18:47

@NUFC69 I love that idea - how lovely! I might ask all of the grandparents, aunties and uncles to do this so that DS gets to see them all. Thank you for the inspiration! We've also requested babysitting this year in April as it'll be ten years since we met and I've got my fingers crossed that we may get the chance to go out and have a nice meal somewhere!

@Plussizejumpsuit fab news that it's negative - not so fab that you have a virus though! Hope you're ok!

How're you doing today @Florelei and @MissEWeatherwax?

We had some hail here yesterday too @NoseringGirl - there's no way our DS would have gone out in it though! I bet it was freezing!

Another one who doesn't really like the rubbish attempt at snow we currently have. I do like proper snow but we've just had slush all day as it's too wet outside. I went to M&S at about 3.30pm and it was empty @PickAChew... maybe the weather has put people off?

OP posts:
MissEWeatherwax · 06/01/2021 19:09

You are all welcome to my snow. There was enough this morning for a little sledging .Slushy now. The only time I don’t mind is when I don’t have to go out at all.
When I was little, I loved it. Loved making angels in the snow. Now I worry about what is under the snow.
Good news today, my DF has his date for vaccine. Only 3 weeks late. No date for DM yet.
Still depressed, but there is nothing I can do to fix it.
Might risk Arnison centre if car park empty, treat myself to McDonald’s Blush.
