Click and collect food shop will we get everything we ordered?

First world problems I know! Just wondered if anyone has collected a click and collect food shop yet this week and got everything they ordered? With all the madness in the shops my OH has suddenly had a ‘first world’ panic we might not get everything due to people supposedly stripping the shelves. Anyone else done a click and collect for this week and received all their shopping as planned? Tia

Not click and collect but my Waitrose shop today was missing carrots, parsnips, potatoes and cocktail sausages. Sigh.

CarlottaValdez · 22/12/2020 07:28

Delivery I mean

autumnboys · 22/12/2020 07:30

I’m about to go through mine and tick to allow subs, which I don’t usually do. I use Tesco, who pick stuff from the shop floor so it’s possible that there won’t be everything available.

SeptSpiral · 22/12/2020 07:32

We had 2 subs in a £100’s worth of shopping yesterday

BooSurprise · 22/12/2020 07:33

Yes, collected my order yesterday, although to be fair, I didn't have a massive amount of 'festive' food. However I did have to go into the supermarket and shop for my works Christmas food, and it was busy but really well stocked.

Br1ll1ant · 22/12/2020 07:33

I had six (5 sensible) subs in my £130 order yesterday. I’m sure it’ll be fine

GazOnABender · 22/12/2020 07:35

The only thing I didn't get was part baked rolls... not the end of the world

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 22/12/2020 07:35

That's a hard question to answer.

It depends on where you are, what you have ordered, what supermarket you have ordered from, what that supermarket has in stock, what time of day you booked your c&c for.

Jessuk86 · 22/12/2020 07:36

Fingers crossed it’ll be ok we booked for 23rd so have time to get other bits of needed just would rather avoid the madness at the moment.

I imagine it varies, around here some shops have people picking the shopping in the store (e.g sainsbury) whereas others (Tesco) pick in a warehouse. Generally those who pick in store are more likely to have substitutions even on a normal week. I would hope that the special 'festive orders have been put aside specifically for the orders so they should be safe.

SquigglePigs · 22/12/2020 07:37

We had a delivery yesterday and everything came. It's local shop dependent but hopefully that's a bit reassuring.

lunar1 · 22/12/2020 07:37

I've just collected mine, everything was there. All the food in my normal weekly delivery was there too yesterday.

Anniecott · 22/12/2020 07:40

I've a delivery due tomorrow and surprise surprise the pasta I ordered isn't available, this is a problem for me as it's basically all my asd son eats and it has to be fusilli so can't be substituted. Good luck with yours. X

Not at my Waitrose- I got all the normal shopping (about £150 worth) but missing the stuff for Christmas roast. I’m sure I can get it elsewhere but a bit annoying, I was hoping to avoid the shops this week.

emilyfrost · 22/12/2020 07:41

It’s the same as any other time of year; you get the items if they’re there on the shop floor when they’re picked that morning.

Christmas doesn’t guarantee anything, rather it makes subs or missing items more likely.

ILoveStickers · 22/12/2020 07:42

Just had the email with substitutions for my Waitrose order later today.

Two sensible ones - e.g. different brand of white sliced loaf.

Weirdly, the turkey we ordered is not available - that was part of the special festive order, so I assumed it had been ordered specially for us. Luckily I'd ordered a back-up meat from the "normal" groceries section of the website, and that one is coming. Odd though!

There are no special “festive orders”. A slot around Christmastime is the exact same as a a slot at any other time; if the items are there on the day, you get them. If not, you don’t.

Items on home delivery and click and collect orders are updated and change too often to be able to be guaranteed. If supermarkets ordered everything in that was on them there would be an exceptional amount of waste and left over stock.

So no, they’re not “safe”.

ILoveStickers It’s not odd; it was never guaranteed as it wasn’t ordered in for you so it was very risky to order a turkey on delivery/click & collect.

bruffin · 22/12/2020 07:49

They opened up christmas slots 2 months ago, the supermarketsvshoukd have some idea of what their customers want.
I dont hold out much hope from ocado this year. I already had an email to say one item i ordered from day one is not coming, others are saying food from the m&s christmas range have not come and very short use by dates

WishMyNameWasWittyNotShitty · 22/12/2020 07:50

The DH collected our tesco yesterday, and I think we had 2 or 3 subs, but nothing missing, and the subs were reasonable 800g quality street instead of a normal tub!

All fresh was there too (no meat as we had ordered from the Butchers).

Fingers crossed yours will be fine!

Sundaysiesta · 22/12/2020 07:51

London here, the Turkey, sprouts, Christmas pudding, pigs in blankets and stuffing were all removed from our order this morning (as out of stock) . Whether they would be added back tomorrow I don’t know but DH has just done an early morning run to Tesco to get them.

Crakeandoryx · 22/12/2020 07:51

Doubtful but you just have to adapt. It's been a year of adapting at short notice. Add in a bit more incase the subs aren't great. You can always freeze food and with tier 4 looming you might be grateful you did. Don't panic buy though because there really is no need!

CherryRoulade · 22/12/2020 07:56

I had most things as ordered from Sainsbury’s on Sunday evening.

Crakeandoryx · 22/12/2020 07:57

I had 18 subs at the weekend. Had to go to the shops late last night. Plenty of turkeys, no gravy anywhere, stuffing had all gone but I got a dried packet and ingredients to boost it, will just make one, it's not hard. Pigs in blankets, I make my own anyway but there were loads. No sprouts we that came with the order the day before. Christmas pudding was hard to find and I had to try 3 shops (Iceland had one, never been in an Iceland!). I'm done now, I'm going nowhere apart from daily walks away from people and a few distanced doorstep drop offs.

BentBastard · 22/12/2020 07:58

It sounds like massive amounts of variation in shops. Looking at people's comments on Facebook/Twitter it seems half the shops have been picked clean and half are totally stocked to the brim and fine.

I suspect the ones that are picked clean have become a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy, as soon as word gets around its busy and shelves are emptying everyone panics and joins in.
