Click and collect food shop will we get everything we ordered?

First world problems I know! Just wondered if anyone has collected a click and collect food shop yet this week and got everything they ordered? With all the madness in the shops my OH has suddenly had a ‘first world’ panic we might not get everything due to people supposedly stripping the shelves. Anyone else done a click and collect for this week and received all their shopping as planned? Tia

@bruffin

Christmas doesn’t guarantee anything, rather it makes subs or missing items more likely. They opened up christmas slots 2 months ago, the supermarketsvshoukd have some idea of what their customers want. I dont hold out much hope from ocado this year. I already had an email to say one item i ordered from day one is not coming, others are saying food from the m&s christmas range have not come and very short use by dates
This has been explained countless times on here but I will explain it again.

You can edit your order with most of the supermarkets up to 11pm the day before delivery/c&c. A lot of people secure a slot by putting a few bottles of expensive alcohol in their order and then edit it for a proper shop closer to Christmas. If supermarkets went by what people ordered in their initial order they wouldn't order in any Christmas food.

Orders are not looked at until the day of or the day before delivery/c&c.

I collected my click and collect order from Tesco’s this morning (£200 worth) only subs they gave me was J20, was quite happy actually as was expecting loads of subs 😁

@ILoveStickers

Just had the email with substitutions for my Waitrose order later today.

Two sensible ones - e.g. different brand of white sliced loaf.

Weirdly, the turkey we ordered is not available - that was part of the special festive order, so I assumed it had been ordered specially for us. Luckily I'd ordered a back-up meat from the "normal" groceries section of the website, and that one is coming. Odd though!

I must admit I thought the stuff from the Waitrose entertaining section was guaranteed as on my order expected tonight it said that my pigs in blankets couldn't be changed as they were being prepared. Cut off for changing these was the 15th, so surely they would know then if they weren't available. Haven't had my receipt yet but we have got alternative box of lamb shoulder from M&S (very long dated) for contingency with frozen peas 😀

Received all of ours yesterday apart from 1 sub of pickled onions - been using Tesco since I was shielding in first lockdown and we’ve pretty much got everything each order

Cherryberrypies · 22/12/2020 08:10

We are collecting today. Only had two substitutes. Not arsed about first one but absolutely raging they have subbed my ferreros for a more expensive smaller box.

userxx · 22/12/2020 08:11

@CarlottaValdez Shit. I'm off to Waitrose later to buy veg 😞

rosie39forever · 22/12/2020 08:17

Just had asda only one sub of mince pies, they have my pre ordered turkey!!! I popped to our town centre Tesco last night about 7 pm and it was really quiet and stacked to the roof with fresh fruit and veg and they also had loads of turkey and gammons.

SingleWontMingle · 22/12/2020 08:22

@GazOnABender The only thing I didn't get was part baked rolls... not the end of the world

That takes me right back to the first lockdown! I have an Asda delivery pass and so during lockdown I asked my friends if they ever wanted me to order anything for them. My friend always asked me to get part baked rolls for her Mum and they were never in stock! That and tinned sweetcorn!

I imagine it varies, around here some shops have people picking the shopping in the store (e.g sainsbury) whereas others (Tesco) pick in a warehouse. Generally those who pick in store are more likely to have substitutions even on a normal week. I would hope that the special 'festive orders have been put aside specifically for the orders so they should be safe.
Not quite. Unless you're order is coming from one of the few Tesco .com delivery warehouses, it's also picked from store (the majority are).

Sainsbury's do have a helpful policy whereby pickers are supposed to check back room stock before substituting or omitting an item out of stock on shelf but whether or not they are doing that at this busy time... I doubt it.

There's no way any festive orders can be kept safe or items put to one side.

The ways your most likely to get what you've ordered are by using Ocado who obviously don't have shoppers in stores so can run a tight ship on stock numbers vs orders and if you place a specific order e.g. an M&S food order.

*you're. FFS.

Trackandtrace · 22/12/2020 08:28

Doubtful everything will come as ordered. We always do online deliveries. Yesterdays had 8 missing and 2 subs. But back in march and april this was way higher so i was ok with that

sofiaaaaaa · 22/12/2020 08:29

I haven’t seen any madness in the shops! Shelves are full!

Redwinestillfine · 22/12/2020 08:37

My order is due tomorrow. I must admit I added a load of frozen veg to it as back up in case my veg isn't available....meat is coming from butchers so that will be fine. So far things are looking available on the app but 🤷

FleeceNavidadToEwe · 22/12/2020 08:37

I have Tesco Festive items in my basket which had to Be ordered ages ago. It says you can’t increase the number as they have been ordered for you, so I assume they will come on 23rd. Not bothered really, as we have plenty in and 3 small supermarkets, greengrocer, butcher in walking distance if we actually need anything.

Shellingbynight · 22/12/2020 08:38

My Ocado delivery is coming this morning and the email says everything is there, no subs and nothing missing. I've used Ocado for years and they are always good on xmas deliveries. (The cut off point for editing today's order was Saturday night, it's always longer for xmas deliveries.)

My friend's Waitrose delivery yesterday had nothing missing but a couple of subs which were fine, one type of potato for another etc. We're both in the SE, Tier 4.

Madcats · 22/12/2020 08:39

I think I saw something in the press yesterday about a software glitch at the weekend that cancelled a few turkey orders for Tesco and Waitrose (and possibly Asda). I think Waitrosewere hoping to contact people to get them another turkey (try phoning customer services).

Hardly surprising for tier 2, but the shops were busier than usual (though not nearly as busy as most Christmases).

onedayinthefuture · 22/12/2020 08:50

Delivery orders for Turkeys should be guaranteed as it's counted as an order same as you would order from a butcher or in store. Tesco had a last day for ordering online to reserve the turkey. Farm shops if you're lucky to have one nearby can be well stocked.

Mindymomo · 22/12/2020 08:53

Got my Tesco order coming today. My fridge is empty and I have no dog food, so I am hoping the dog food is there more than the Christmas food.

mnahmnah · 22/12/2020 08:55

I picked up an Asda click and collect yesterday. No turkey. Went in the shop, shelves full of them! So why didn’t I get one?! Going in the shop defeats the whole purpose of doing click and collect. I also didn’t get the box of chocolates. Other than that, the substitutes were actually better than what I originally requested.

movingonup20 · 22/12/2020 09:00

Lidl had everything yesterday bar brandy butter in store so not sure why others would be different!?

AlwaysLatte · 22/12/2020 09:01

I'm waiting with interest to see what Tesco brings this afternoon. I did buy the main vegetables from Waitrose as well a few days ago so if they do deliver everything there'll be plenty for the days after. I got one of the last two red cabbages though and there was no celery (I managed to get that in the coop though) I could only get baby parsnips as well, no big ones. I'm assuming a lot of the veg will be missing today.

lyinginthegutterstaringatstars · 22/12/2020 09:02

They're always missing stuff at Christmas. The media reports on it every year

No you get what's available on the day. They don't set aside anything for anybody
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/12/2020 09:34

We had Sainsbury’s yesterday. The only subs were wine for other wine, and they had flagged up short dates on a couple of things - mince which was for the freezer anyway, and Pizza Express pizzas for Christmas Eve dated 24th.
