Click and collect food shop will we get everything we ordered?

First world problems I know! Just wondered if anyone has collected a click and collect food shop yet this week and got everything they ordered? With all the madness in the shops my OH has suddenly had a ‘first world’ panic we might not get everything due to people supposedly stripping the shelves. Anyone else done a click and collect for this week and received all their shopping as planned? Tia

mnahmanh I know someone who is an order picker for ASDA. The click and collect is picked in a giant warehouse and not in the shop. I am unsure if this is just the region she works in but may explain why no turkey in your order though lots of turkeys in the shop.

AradiaGC · 22/12/2020 09:47

Quite a lot missing from mine today - no fresh parsnips, vegan sausages, cashew nuts, mince pies or sherry trifle.

Luckily I have some frozen parsnips already and the other things we'll be fine without! I'm definitely not going out to a shop in search of them.

Kazmerelda · 22/12/2020 09:54

What I don’t get is if you order something they must know how many they need to get.

We have spent the last few weeks buying bits and freezing it all but even then it was more sparse than usual.

At a time when we have been locked down here and there it’s a shame the food supply industry haven’t realised this demand!

HerbErtlinger · 22/12/2020 09:55

Got my asda order this morning, 6 subs all of which were bigger or more expensive versions of what I'd ordered. No potatoes or sticky toffee pudding so will pop to Aldi later and then that's done

TiddyTid · 22/12/2020 10:00

Got all except the bread sauce in mine. Trying to avoid shops so may just go without.

motherofawhirlwind · 22/12/2020 10:03

Sainsbury's yesterday and was supposed to be getting everything except a vegan camembert (sob) and a cauliflower. The cauliflower was in there after all....

unchienandalusia · 22/12/2020 10:06

Just got my receipt for this evening's Ocado shop. Couple of sensible swaps. Two items not available- my favourite mont d'or cheese and no bacon. Think we'll
survive!

Roominmyhouse · 22/12/2020 10:08

My Sainsbury’s order is coming tonight, had the email and getting everything I ordered which I’m pleased with. It says my salad has a date of before 25th but that’s fine as it’s for Christmas Eve anyway.

WilsonMilson · 22/12/2020 10:14

No pigs in blankets in my click and collect. Went to Asda for it opening at 6am and it was well stocked and quiet, got what I needed and got the hell out of there before the madness.

MarcelineMissouri · 22/12/2020 10:17

My Tesco order came this morning. Everything was there and just one sub which was a different flavour Pringles. Very happy! (Except about the Pringles Grin)

Rainbowshine · 22/12/2020 10:26

If you’re in a Tier 4 area a lot of people have had to go and get some Christmas food unexpectedly after the weekend announcement when they originally planned to be elsewhere and not have to get anything. The only way to really guarantee getting what you want is one of the Christmas orders, both online delivery and click and collect don’t offer any certainty about getting the exact items in your trolley. It’s just the equivalent of walking around a virtual shop, so you take the chance your favourite brand or that item won’t be on the virtual shelves.

RosieBdy · 22/12/2020 10:32

Tier 4 here and just collecting my order now.
Salmon was the only thing I didn't get (fresh, not smoked) and a few subs but nothing major... it's very quiet in the car park which I wasn't expecting!

Anniecott · 22/12/2020 10:43

I've just been onto mine to add to it, it's coming tomorrow, it's says my preordered turkey is ordered and can't be changed, then went onto a different bit of the site and it says my turkey is unavailable. This is Tesco. Hubby just went to our small local Tesco and bought a turkey. 🙄We are in tier 4.

EnPoinsettia · 22/12/2020 10:46

It’s usually pretty variable at the this time of year anyway. It was pretty variable earlier this year whilst the supermarkets adjusted their supply chains. So Xmas plus new lockdowns plus channel disruption plus pre-Brexit prepping...prwttty likely you’ll get subs

emilyfrost · 22/12/2020 11:15

They opened up christmas slots 2 months ago, the supermarketsvshoukd have some idea of what their customers want.

bruffin You don’t understand how click and collect/home delivery orders work. They are picked on the morning of the delivery; they aren’t looked at before then.

The reason being is that because customers can change them so late into the night before it’s just not possible for supermarkets to order in exactly what people put in their baskets as they chop and change all the time.

They would be left with an extraordinary amount of waste.

I picked up an Asda click and collect yesterday. No turkey. Went in the shop, shelves full of them! So why didn’t I get one?!

mnahmnah There could be two reasons for this. One is that home delivery/click & collect orders start getting picked at around 4am, so if the delivery with said item either hasn’t arrived or hasn’t been put on the shelf at that point, you won’t get it.

Second is that some Asda stores are picked and packed in warehouses (not all), and so if the warehouse doesn’t have one you won’t get one as the order is just transferred to store as it is.

I know someone who is an order picker for ASDA. The click and collect is picked in a giant warehouse and not in the shop.

Valkadin This is only true for a handful of Asda orders; most are picked in store.

JorisBonson · 22/12/2020 11:17

We had an Asda delivery last night and were only missing a Yule log and yorkshires. Was very impressed (and the supermarkets were dead at 11pm when we picked up the extras).

Bluntness100 · 22/12/2020 11:23

I had my Ocado Xmas delivery this morning and everything there, turkey, two types of fresh stuffing, pigs in blankets, canapés, mince pies, double cream, croissants etc all from m &S and then things like parsnips, potatoes, Brussel sprouts, sticky toffee pudding, cheeses, port, baileys, frozen pastries, Prosecco etc.

I was pleasantly surprised. Two subs, one fresh sour dough loaf ( for now) was substituted for another one and one blue cheese substituted for another.

QuieterMass · 22/12/2020 11:32

Had a Sains click & collect yesterday and the only thing missing was long life coconut milk drink: got chicken, sprouts, carrots, potatoes, lettuce, etc. all OK.

jacqelinedaniels · 22/12/2020 11:45

We had a Morrison’s click and collect for the first time yesterday (all we could get); it was mixed. A few things missing (Christmas nuts, Yule log, crispy duck), our stollen and panettone was marked to eat before Christmas Eve so not ideal, and the nice bottle of chateau neuf du pape intended for an Xmas day gift had been replaced with a cheap bottle but we’d been charged for the expensive original one! However they have refunded us including for the Stollen and Panetone and it’s a busy time so we are happy enough. Just have to eat those items quickly!

Watsername · 22/12/2020 11:48

My Asda order on Sunday was missing the Christmas meat, Christmas pudding, crisps and even normal chicken pieces. Disappointing. I have been avoiding supermarkets since March, but we had to go for topups.

rednsparkley · 22/12/2020 11:59

Me and DH click and collected from Morrisons at 8am today, and I also popped round the shop for some bits drinks I had forgotten. There was only sprouts and coleslaw missing so I was quite pleased. We were back home by 9am 👍 We'll only need to go out for bread and milk now which is very reassuring.

Shelby30 · 22/12/2020 12:01

I'm doing click and collect and I can't even get half the stuff to add as showing out of stock 😫 I managed to get Turkey last week and freeze and pigs in blankets had a gd date. Everything I cldnt get as either they didn't have it or was going out of date 23/24 and cldnt be frozen. I'm going to have to brave the shops, today! Aghhhhh ☹️

Brunt0n · 22/12/2020 12:04

We had a £190 Ocado delivery, that we had booked since October, and it turned up minus parsnips and most importantly, pigs in blankets! I went to M&S just at 8.30 this morning and they had lots of stock. Was starting to get busy already though!

Madcats · 22/12/2020 12:37

Just in case it helps any of you, my little Coop/convenience store had an entire fridge devoted to party food and pigs in blankets etc. I think the manager/staff have a big say on what to stock AND know their locals.

It might be worth trying the corner shops before fighting round a big supermarket.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 22/12/2020 12:49

My Sainsburys delivery is apparently pretty much everything I ordered. One item that I marked as not to be substituted isn't there but it is always hit and miss. One item has been substituted for a decent alternative.
Very relieved.
