Is it hell or is it ok??

Today was due to be the day for 'the big Christmas shop'

I'm going to look like a proper panic buying twat with my loaded Christmas trolley aren't I 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just back from Waitrose. A bit of a queue in the car park (not unusual these days) but once inside, shelves heaving with all the usual fresh and Christmas produce and everything very normal and civilised.

Requinblanc · 21/12/2020 11:24

Went really early at 7am to Sainsbury's (in London) and it was very quiet and fully stocked.

I am concerned though that as the stories about the freight problems spread more people will start freaking out a bit more...

nancypineapple · 21/12/2020 11:25

Went at 6.30 this morning to the big Tesco here-not busy then but by 8am queues round the side in the rain and it was heaving inside. Loads of stock though unlike March time.

CrispySeaweedIsReallyCabbage · 21/12/2020 11:26

I was going to go, but DH has very kindly offered to go late tonight. If he can't get everything (or anything!), I'll go first thing tomorrow. Glad most people say they haven't seen too much panic buying. Ffs. What timing!

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/12/2020 11:26

@Smallinthesmoke

Went to Waitrose at 0800. Not too bad. If you are shopping today though I agree with others, keep an eye on the products with short dates.Lots of stuff on the shelves goes off before Xmas eg custard, cream... Hmm
I know!

When i buy a dip for saturday night in august it lasts for weeks

Do the same on the 23rd of december and it lasts til the 24th!!!

How???

PaintTheFence · 21/12/2020 11:28

I've been this morning and it was fine. I was pleasantly surprised.

I went yesterday and it was less busy than a normal Sunday I'd say which was odd. Managed to get all my xmas food with best before dates to 25/26/27 December.
lionheart · 21/12/2020 11:28

Busy as you'd expect for this time of year.

ZenNudist · 21/12/2020 11:30

Went to Sainsbury's at 6.15 just after it opened and it was just nice. Just about as busy as my normal Monday shop. When i came to leave at 8 after shopping in Aldi as well it was getting busy. I was too tired to panic buy so I just did my Christmas shop but doubled up on veg and salad so I could last til new year with all the meat and fish already in my freezer. I'm not panic buying for Brexit. I have enough in now is the time to use it!!!

AmberCL · 21/12/2020 11:30

Did aldi at 7.15, out by 7.45. Very well stocked. Just needed a turkey crown and associated bits and veg. Been collecting various drinks and snacks for a few weeks. Turkey I got is dated 26th. Just need to pop to local co op for salad, fruit and bits to make sausage rolls and I'm done.

I8toys · 21/12/2020 11:32

M&S at 7am - out in 15 mins, then drove to Sainsbos - out in 15 mins - not doing a full shop though just picking up remaining bits.

nevernotstruggling · 21/12/2020 11:32

No chocolate logs in Morrisons. Tons of the fuckers until today.

toycat · 21/12/2020 11:34

Did a Tesco shop at 7.30 - it was quiet when I got there but getting busy by 8am. Shelves were full and no queue at the till

LisaLee333 · 21/12/2020 11:35

Not going anywhere, til Wednesday, and all we need is milk, bread, trifle, and pork pie. No-one in my village has even budged yet. Let the supermarket crazies lose their minds, we won't.

We have everything we need and want, and if every shop shut at midday today (until 27th December) we would survive. We live rurally, and are always way ahead of the game. We stockpile all the time, and have not been caught out - ever - during this pandemic. (We don't panic buy, we stockpile, there is a difference!)

We stockpile because we live 10 miles from main shops, and 2.5 miles from a little mini-shop. And we are down some really winding country lanes and we easily get snowed in.

madcatladyforever · 21/12/2020 11:37

I went to Tescos on Saturday with trepidation as I had NO food at all. It was practically empty. Its open 24 hours a day from now to xmas so people don't go in crowds.

MrsFogi · 21/12/2020 11:39

9am at Sainsburys - absolutely fine, fully stocked shelves, no queue to get in or at the checkout.

Lulu1919 · 21/12/2020 11:42

I was in Tesco ..a big one at 9-30 am it's was busy but ok ...no queue at checkout !
Was getting busier as I left

MustBeThin · 21/12/2020 11:44

I was at asda at 7:30, shelves were full apart from bread. Luckily they were just putting some out while I was there so managed to get bread dated the 28th. It was a lot busier than normal and I usually do my Xmas shop this sort or time/day every year. I did she one woman with a trolly just full of toilet rolls though 🤦🏼‍♀️ I don't need to venture out to the shops until next Monday/Tuesday now. 😁

Soubriquet · 21/12/2020 11:47

I work in a supermarket

The doors opened at 6 and bloody hell I couldn’t believe how many people there were

Soubriquet · 21/12/2020 11:47

No short stock though!

DahliaMacNamara · 21/12/2020 11:52

Just back. Pretty standard for 21st December. No fighting over the tomatoes or anything.

justasking111 · 21/12/2020 11:53

I'm going tonight when folk have settled down to enjoy TV wine and chocs 😄

Username54789129671 · 21/12/2020 11:53

Morrisons was pretty busy at 8.15 this morning.

MarshaBradyo · 21/12/2020 11:54

Just went

Busy but at usual pre Christmas level - ie you can get a park but there are staff telling people where to drive

Long queue but moved very quickly

Shelves fine

Almostslimjim · 21/12/2020 11:55

@nevernotstruggling

I had a click and collect order yesterday, my yule log was out of stock. But they 'upgraded' to me to an 'extra special' one for the same price. Winner winner, chicken dinner!
