Is it hell or is it ok??

Today was due to be the day for 'the big Christmas shop'

I'm going to look like a proper panic buying twat with my loaded Christmas trolley aren't I 🤦🏻‍♀️

My OH went to get the Click and Collect order this morning, we’d actually cancelled a lot last night as the family Christmas is off.
Only problem was that van driver said it had taken him a while as he had to come via back roads because of Op Stack and the lorries. Other than that OK. Need to pick up turkey tomorrow and that’s it. I’m actually far better organised this year as I had pre-ordered most things.

Our supermarkets are the best in the world

Lol, what a statement! Are you Donald Trump?

Circumlocutious · 21/12/2020 11:58

Oh gosh I’ve forgotten to get a yule log.

Bathroom12345 · 21/12/2020 12:02

Having experience of working at a high end supermarket OP. You will be fine. I was there last Xmas and this women came in on 23rd (which is often busier than the 24th Dec) who had two young children with her and a taxi waiting outside. She spent £500, paid in cash and wanted tons of bags.

Its almost like she was driving past in a taxi with her kids, a brown envelope of cash and no bags and thought - hold on - let me do a £500 Xmas shop! She wasnt English though - think from Middle East area.

She was very pleasant and she brought some lovely stuff

I can report no evidence of panic buying in Leicestershire.

I’ve just been to Waitrose to pick up my click & collect order. People were queuing around the car park in the rain, poor buggers. I got everything I ordered, except for a particular Italian cheese and from what I could see the shelves were well stoked. Then I popped into the small co-op in my village which was quiet and bursting at the seams with stock.

Bathroom12345 · 21/12/2020 12:05

They are the best! I have been all over the world and have some ex pat friends and we have the biggest choice, for all purses and the best service.

I went to Asda at 7.30 am it was busier than usual but not horrendous. Plenty of food too . Got my turkey 👍🏻😀

longtompot · 21/12/2020 12:08

Went to Lidl at 9am and the road was clear. The car park was quite full, but all done nice and easily. Sainsbury's was busier an hour later, and when we came out there were queues to get in.
But the big Christmas food shop is done, I have had a cinnamon whirl and a coffee and putting my feet up before walking the dog.

@Bathroom12345

What about correct masking wearing? You put it on over your mouth AND nose.

How is that so difficiult. I bet the fight was about noses poking out...

That's exactly it. One woman in the queue with nose out of mask, woman in front of her shouting at her to wear it properly. Lots of swearing and shouting back. It was getting very heated. I thought if that's the queue what will it be like at the tills? It's probably no more than a big Christmas shop day to be fair, but I just wanted to come back when it was less crowded.

@KatySun "they play Christmas music and that stresses me out" Grin IKWYM..

I have spent a couple of hours wandering round our small town. No issues at all - quiet in fact. I bought all our fresh veg, fruit and salad stuff at the greengrocer, cheeses, cheese biscuits, treats and cream at the deli, bread at the bakers, toiletries at Home Bargains. No queues, lots of stock, everything I needed.
No one was fussing or over-buying.

rollinggreenhills · 21/12/2020 12:19

@nevernotstruggling

No chocolate logs in Morrisons. Tons of the fuckers until today.
That might be because it's Yuletide today.
Worried234 · 21/12/2020 12:23

My local giant Sainsburys was jam packed at 8.45am this morning.

Londonmummy66 · 21/12/2020 12:25

I went to M&S at 10.30 this morning - no busier than usual. We did couple shop as I wanted to buy the food for 24th-26th and needed DH to help me carry it home. Basket each, put the expensive stuff in one so that we could use or £7 off if you spend £70 and whizz through the self check outs (no queues) so no mixing with anyone.

TheFairyCaravan · 21/12/2020 12:27

We went to Aldi at 8:30 and were out by 9:10. It wasn’t very busy at all really. The shelves were well stocked and if you got stuff from the back the dates were fine.

That’s Tier2 East Midlands

TechnoDino · 21/12/2020 12:28

Tesco packed here and entry restrictions in place to control the crowds. Glad to be home.

Snally82 · 21/12/2020 12:34

Just been to Tesco, small queue, everything in stock. No issues at all

justasking111 · 21/12/2020 12:36

Mad queue in big Tesco and Asda and Iceland otherwise quite sane elsewhere

Whattimeisdinner · 21/12/2020 12:38

I must be on another planet... Are people buying enough food for weeks and weeks? Or just for Christmas day? I was going to go on the 23 or 24th for veg and a few treat. I now feel like I should be rushing out and filling a huge trolly... What do people know that I don't?

Snally82 · 21/12/2020 12:41

@Whattimeisdinner we went for our Christmas food no idea about others. But honestly it was SO well stocked, almost overflowing!

yellowmaoampinball · 21/12/2020 12:43

It's the port situation I think whattime - alongside lockdown and normal Christmas shopping. I'm not going to add to the panic and help create shortages by buying stuff unnecessarily. I am resigned to potentially being unable to get some stuff I wanted but we are highly unlikely to starve. If Xmas Dinner has some unusual elements then so be it!

Elderflower14 · 21/12/2020 12:45

We had a Morrisons delivery on Saturday night.. No Christmas Cake or Activia Yoghurts so an old work colleague at the other end of the village added them to her Asda order. Got the yoghurts on Sunday and they subbed two small iced fruit slab cakes which is fine...
Had to go to local big Co op and get streaky bacon and chipolatas this morning .. Then the Co op where I work to get local sausage meat..Now home in the dry!!

My local supermarket was totally chill. Full of food and not that busy.
Justiceisblind · 21/12/2020 12:47

Sent DS1.

Marks and Spencers is apparently "full of old ladies".
Other than that we're ok.

dottiedodah · 21/12/2020 12:48
