Surely we’ll all be in full lockdown very soon?

With the recent travel bans and now freight banned from France, Hancock saying the new variant is ‘out of control’ etc - how long can it be until the whole UK is in lockdown? A few days maybe?

@Scautish

Yes there will be another lockdown and suspect it will go well into Feb. Will depend hugely on how much people stick to rules. A large number won’t due to ignorance/stupidity or selfishness. Arseholes.
The reason the first lockdown worked better was the very obvious reason that schools were open. We will need to at the very least reduce the bubble sizes in schools if we are to see improvements of the scale we saw before.
PrincessNutNuts · 21/12/2020 00:46

@Covidnomore

It's hard for me to accept a full lockdown when the numbers where I am are so low.

On the other hand this new strain and the increase in R is very worrying.

I suspect there will be a lockdown very soon, yes!

If you recall the crowds at the Lonfon train stations yesterday and think of Lockdown as stopping epode from bring the scary new mutant strain to your area, does that help?

I live in Tier 2. We are extremely Tier 4 adjacent. Our shops, pubs, nail bars, hairdressers and garden centres etc are RAMMED.

EnPoinsettia · 21/12/2020 00:46

26th at the latest. I think it was decided at the meeting with devolved nations, they’re just drip feeding it out of fear of being unpopular.

Ihateketchup · 21/12/2020 00:48

The 2nd lockdown worked well in many areas.

It did not work in areas where this new strain was prevalent.

But where I am, cases are well below average at the moment and a lot lower than they were a couple of weeks ago.

frozendaisy · 21/12/2020 00:48

Tier 4 hurray!
We are in lockdown for everything that makes life worth living.

Gone past caring now.

timeforanewstart · 21/12/2020 00:52

Would be best if they announced it now say starting 26th or 27th at least people will be prepared a little and best time to do one with kids off school as well

nannynick · 21/12/2020 00:53

Will there ever be full lockdown? As a childcarer and elderly carer I can still continue working whilst in England Tier 4. Food shops will remain open, If you cannot work from home you can go to work.

Will any of that be stopped? Keyworkers will continue regardless, I can't see Government stopping that. So what is full lockdown? England Tier 4 throughout or something more?

Medievalist · 21/12/2020 01:52

Short? Our kids didn’t go to school from 23 March until the start of September!

I didn't say the first lockdown was short or that schools were closed for a short time. I'm saying we should have a shorter but harder lockdown now with schools closed as they were in the first lockdown .

LovingLen · 21/12/2020 05:07

I doubt it will be a full lockdown but many more will go into tier 4 and places in tier 1 maybe go to tier 2 to keep it down and stop too much mixing, realistically Boxing day or 27th to stop people piling to the sales. I am bordering tier 4 area so don't expect to keep our tier 2 status for long now.

Thecatinthehat123 · 21/12/2020 05:10

I live in a tier two area and my children’s secondary schools have already announced that they are going back on 11th January instead of the 4th.

OpheliasCrayon · 21/12/2020 05:17

@JamieLeeCurtains
I did latin (even at uni. And very badly as well I'm piss poor) and that made me laugh

OpheliasCrayon · 21/12/2020 05:19

That's so annoying..

I really wanted another tattoo.

Actually that's true. As it goes I will be trotting out to work as an SEN teacher (also CEV but didn't shield, I've worked throughout ) come hell or high water. But I do collect tattoos and wanted another 😂. Serious problem I know.

PhilCornwall1 · 21/12/2020 05:24

Oh you can guarantee there will be another lockdown, Hancock, Johnson and Co. are making all the right noises again. And you can also guarantee that v3.0 will work just as well as the last two. Hmm

Happy 2021 everybody. Same shit, different year.

moominmomma1234 · 21/12/2020 05:36

I thought mps had to vote on any national lockdowns beofre they came into effect, i may have got it wrong though. MPs are all on holiday

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2020 05:37

If primary school closes I literally won't be able to work to pay my bills or buy food. Can't wait.

2anddone · 21/12/2020 05:38

My guess would be 27th for 2 weeks minimum. Secondary schools aren't having most year groups back until 11th and I can see primary schools doing the same

WanderingMilly · 21/12/2020 05:40

Easy to have a lockdown when schools are already on holiday....but unless schools remain fully shut in term-time, it actually isn't a proper lockdown at all.....

Moonandstars25 · 21/12/2020 06:23

This will be an unpopular opinion but if they really want to stop this strain and not have a long extended lockdown then most of the country needs to be in tier 4 now. The longer they leave it the more it spreads. My area is now in tier 4 (we actually have less cases than some tier 2 and 3 areas). The national lockdown for my area did work but we are still in tier 4. The cases in some areas rose so quickly and the strain is in other places already in tier 2 and 3- with the travel and mixing that is going to happen it will only spread more. I can see a long and painful lockdown coming on the 29th for everyone but this situation is going to be made worse by allowing people to still mix now. Trying to lockdown one part of the country to halt it is bolting the gate after the horse is bolted.

MillieEpple · 21/12/2020 06:31

Yes. I live in tier 2 next two tier 4. Its very clear all of tier 4 came shopping here yesterday. The local authority had to shut the highstreet to cars to ket people spread out more.
So any idea of containing it into tier 4 is a nonsense. Thats without even factoring in that many of us border folk are cross border working (something thats allowed) and for many of tier 4 their local shop is in tier 2.

Browneyedgirl20 · 21/12/2020 06:35

It’s pretty depressing Sad

I think Boris will make an announcement at 23.59 on Christmas Day that he has a crack team of welders at the ready to seal us all in our homes from midnight. Then he’ll realise that once again he’s talking out of his arse.

Ineedaduvetday · 21/12/2020 06:48

@justasking111

Well in Wales we were not told until 5pm that lockdown would be at midnight, so do not expect much warning.
Can't give too much warning or there could be a mass exodus as happened in Italy all those months ago spreading the virus around.
KatherineJaneway · 21/12/2020 06:52

Cases in my area are extremely high. Looking at the PHE daily dashboard every day I've been watching the number of cases skyrocket. More and more of the map is turning maroon which is the colour for over 400 cases per 100,000.

I think we will lockdown and schools will close.

TinySongstress · 21/12/2020 06:58

I'll be surprised if we make it to Christmas tbh.

hettyhooverdoover · 21/12/2020 06:59

@Waxonwaxoff0

They will still open to some children like they did before. Do you work from home? Or go out to work ? I hope everything is ok for you.
