Surely we’ll all be in full lockdown very soon?

With the recent travel bans and now freight banned from France, Hancock saying the new variant is ‘out of control’ etc - how long can it be until the whole UK is in lockdown? A few days maybe?

I am just hoping the fact that we have a high infection rate in my area but nobody knows anyone who has got seriously I'll like before first lockdown means the virus is getting milder.

The hospitals are getting higher admissions don't get me wrong but not compared with the infection rate for where I live.

Anyway more than five hundred thousand people have been vaccinated so far. That gives me hope any lockdown or tiers may only last a couple of months.

Crunchymum · 20/12/2020 23:51

Why not just replace the Queen's speech with Boris' latest update.

Tier 5 for one and all Shock

Medievalist · 20/12/2020 23:51

Surely it would be better to have another full blown national lockdown for a shorter period than all this drawn out faffing around with tiers with schools staying open. Shorter, sharper shock with schools shut - as with the first lockdown. At least then everyone knows where they stand.

I really think it would cheer me up to see the queens speech end with the eastenders ending

But it's OK to still go supermarket shopping with your entire family in tow, right? Confused

AlecTrevelyan006 · 20/12/2020 23:54

Tier 6 - masks compulsory for zoom meetings and highly recommended for emailing

MrsTravers · 20/12/2020 23:55

@Medievalist schools weren't shut for a short period in the first lockdown, though. Yes, I appreciate they were open to a ltd number of pupils, but my DC left on 20 March and didn't return until September. Even without summer hols, that's still 4 months.

Medievalist, I would say so personally, yes! Then people can plan?
Surely the small advantage is to have schools off, so why not extend that?

Most places, close or have reduced hours over Xmas, even the poor hospitality industry, so why not ride this wave and do it!

I'm can't fathom however why this has been so sudden, I mean with cases building then suddenly exploding today!

Diddlysquatty · 20/12/2020 23:57

Yes I’m not sure the localised tier thing really cuts it - we’re south east but tier 2 but bordered by tier 4 areas. People work in supermarkets here from the tier 4 area etc who are still coming to work. So there is lots of crossover. Can’t see it being long before it spreads and we’re all ‘tier 4’ ie. in lockdown

MercyBooth · 20/12/2020 23:57

Tier 7 They staple your nose and mouth shut with big metal staples and superglue you to your bathroom wall With a bucket underneath so you can piss and shit

MercyBooth · 20/12/2020 23:58

Strange isnt it? Especially as we have always been told there is a lag in counting over weekends.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 21/12/2020 00:00

@LunaNorth

Maybe he’ll get the Queen to do it, as a festive treat.
Full respect if she delivers it like this....

wonderstuff · 21/12/2020 00:04

I think we'll be lucky to get to Christmas without full lockdown. We need to get the ports functioning quickly. I don't want schools to close but I think they'll have to, highest infection rates are among school children. Mass testing for secondaries might keep them open, but the plan to test kids with a test that only has 48% accuracy instead of isolating them is surely now not a good idea.

Teddy1970 · 21/12/2020 00:05

MercyBooth that did make me laugh!

Maybe it is all just an excuse for us Londoners to hog all the vaccineGrin

But yes the tiers are daft in a day and age where people work and drive all over the place

RLOU30 · 21/12/2020 00:08

Tier 8

Surely we’ll all be in full lockdown very soon?
DonnaDonna01 · 21/12/2020 00:10

I’m in Tier 2, there was a chance of us going into tier 1 so a full lockdown seems pretty harsh here. From the graphs on Sat and any others I’ve seen the drastic incline was September, (stays pretty low all during summer) what happened in September that hadn’t since the first lockdown? It’s not really difficult to see in my opinion.

RedMarauder · 21/12/2020 00:13

@GabsAlot

i always said there would be a lockdown in jan i think it will be 27th now
I think he would announce it on the 27th so we are in lockdown over New Year.
BilboBercow · 21/12/2020 00:17

Pretty sure in tier 8 you can't even look out of the window or make eye contact with your own family. Sex is illegal.

DonkeyMcFluff · 21/12/2020 00:18

If the government has any sense they’ll announce a lockdown on Boxing Day to prevent idiots swanning around socialising during the holidays. It certainly needs to be in place by NYE, to prevent fools having parties and to justify neighbours reporting them and police breaking them up.

Inkpaperstars · 21/12/2020 00:19

Mostly if not always my predictions about what they might do have been wrong. I think they want to postpone as long as possible a big rise in cases from the new strain across the wider country, that is partly why Tier 4 areas can’t do their Xmas mixing or travel. But how quickly cases rise in those other areas will partly depend on how many don’t comply with the latest rules re Xmas. Judging by the crowds heading out of London last night, there are lots of people who don’t care if the less affected areas get dragged into full lockdown faster than necessary.

Short? Our kids didn’t go to school from 23 March until the start of September!

The November lockdown worked amazingly well in the north west actually - rates fell from over 700 to less than 200, and have stayed flat since.

MrsMiaWallis · 21/12/2020 00:26

@Ridiculousradish

Fuck knows. I'm in Cornwall and it just doesn't seem real, it's bizarre. I really feel for the rest of the country. Went to a local village today that has a high number of 2nd homes and holiday cottages. Loads of them were occupied. Locals furious. Local pubs only allowing those from Tier 1 to enter.
Yes I've heard this is happening (proof of address needed) and I can't really blame Cornwall
MercyBooth · 21/12/2020 00:39

I wonder why NYE is the elephant in the room.
Wonder if some in the public eye have got party plans
