Has anyone on this thread been to the supermarket yet this morning?

Momsincharge · 21/12/2020 10:14

Yes business was brisk. I was there trying to get the semi skimmed milk I couldn’t get yesterday. Still wasn’t there. (Obviously nothing to do with cross channel trade.)

Nc135 · 21/12/2020 10:16

Yes and all shelves full

Somersetlevel · 21/12/2020 10:17

@Mamamia456

It's only France that have said that for 48 hours. We will still have freight coming from other countries so no need to worry.
The cynical person in me think this is NOTHING to do with C19 but a strong arm tactic over negiotations for Brexit.
AmberAndAlexsMum · 21/12/2020 10:18

Maybe it's time we started another dig for Britain campaign like they did in world war II Grin

oneglassandpuzzled · 21/12/2020 10:22

I don't think they could involve Porton Down and the World Health Organisation in Brexit tactics.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/12/2020 10:23

bit bloody late to be digging for britain.

Peregrina · 21/12/2020 10:29

Food wise, this part of the year until the spring has always been regarded as the start of the hungry season when the stores of summer crops are being eaten up and the spring crops are not yet ready.

I was at Aldi for 7.40. It was the 7th circle of hell Grin

People doing that this year have been called scaremongers or loons....
Frazzled2207 · 21/12/2020 10:33

good news guys (I think)

The French government has said that “in the next few hours” it will establish
a “protocol to ensure that movement from the UK can resume”.

In a post shared on Twitter by the French embassy in the UK, French transport Minister Jean-Baptiste Djebbari said: “In the next few hours, at European level, we’re going to establish a solid health protocol to ensure that movement from the UK can resume.

“Our priority: to protect our nationals and our fellow citizens.”

Excellent news

Great frazzled I also just heard someone in haulage saying they are well prepared for brexit and it doesn't need to be postponed and they are good at moving forward or something.

Young haulage sorry for the scant info but it was heartening to hear. He said he doesn't believe there will be any food shortages.

Frazzled2207 · 21/12/2020 10:38

There won't be any food shortages (in the short term at least) unless people panic buy today which I believe is already happening. Idiots.

supermarketsweep2020 · 21/12/2020 10:38

I've done the 'big' shop this morning, it was always scheduled for today.
It was busy (as you would expect four days before Christmas) but not manic. The shelves were overflowing there was nothing we couldn't get.
As other posters have said food to supply the U.K. for Christmas will already be in chilled warehouses waiting to restock supermarkets daily, problems in the supply chain, if there are any, will kick in after Christmas.
It may be some things will be in short supply and we'll have to make substitutions but the catastrophising and fear mongering on threads such as these is ridiculous and just becomes a self fulfilling prophecy by encouraging panic buying.

PandemicPavolova · 21/12/2020 10:39

Claxon: spades down everyone, bowls off head... Scissors ✂ down.

Rob from the young s haulage... Very reassuring... (5 live) don't worry.

RudolphToldRedNoseNotSymptom · 21/12/2020 10:45

We've plenty of vegetables.
Yes, in Westminster.

I actually lol'd. Quip of the year.

Ireland bringing forward their Brexit ferry routes to now. So importing from France rather than via UK.

Re sensible hairstyles?
Surely the mullet has to be the most practical? We can all cut the top of our own hair, and just let our locks grow and flow to the back.

TheClitterati · 21/12/2020 10:59

Thanks MN. I'll get my cress started now so I can stuff the Yorkshire puddings with them on Friday Grin

AlohaMolly · 21/12/2020 11:00

I was in Tesco this morning for 9ish (for top up sensible shop of bread and cheese) and it was normal busy and shelves were fine!

TheClitterati · 21/12/2020 11:03

I do have a few rosehips in the garden. ..,

FatGirlShrinking · 21/12/2020 11:05

Just been on Twitter and looks like it they're hoping to sort it today

If freight isn't allowed in from France
MRex · 21/12/2020 11:09

Some in Tier 4 will have run down fridges expecting to go away to family, some will have planned to shop today as normal. Supermarkets are usually rammed this week with people stocking up for the big break. I doubt many people are panic buying, it's just judging people unnecessarily for doing a normal shop. If people had concerns they would have bought in extras earlier in the year.

theDudesmummy · 21/12/2020 11:12

I think, as people have said, it is very likely that the strain is already all over Europe, it is just that the genome testing in Britain is more up to date etc. I am in Ireland (Republic) and we are pretty sure it is here already...

JamieLeeCurtains · 21/12/2020 11:51

The EU will agree sanitary protocols that the UK is too incompetent to comply with.

Prediction ^^

Butterymuffin · 21/12/2020 11:56

Hope that means the goods that were going to Europe for sale - e.g. the seafood going to markets on the continent - can get there in time. There is enough food here but businesses already in difficulty are going to be in more trouble if they can't sell their goods for Christmas.

Johnson still needs to sort his Brexit Deal or No Deal as well as this! Unbelievable that it's been left so late.
