@Originalyellowbelly

rosie1959 fingers crossed, my DH wants to go to the shop and get veg, cat stuff etc just in case but I don't want to end up with too much and it gets wasted.
Hope you get what you need We live in the fens so veg is not a problem it comes from local suppliers and we collect from local market

Love the comments that the French restrictions are only for 48 hours. We don’t know how long the French will keep in place the ban.

PandemicPavolova · 21/12/2020 08:23

Yes the poor lorry drivers!

How would that benefit the French their lorries may well be stuck over here
Parker231 · 21/12/2020 08:28

I imagine stranded lorry drivers is a minor concern compared with trying to halt the spread through France of the new strain of the virus.

A proactive Govt would have already put fast testing in place for lorry drivers crossing into france. An incompetent one would have another meeting about something totally predictable.

If you tell the world that if you are in a T4 area, assume you have the new virus, then its no surprise other countries will avoid.

Pyewhacket · 21/12/2020 08:35

Mansion Airport will be used as a marshalling area and to provide necessary facilities to lorry drivers.

Cecily42 · 21/12/2020 08:36

With the new virulent strain first being detected in Kent and the Southeast, it wouldn’t surprise me if it came from France. I think it’s likely it’s already in many countries, just the British are reporting it.

Bobbybobbins · 21/12/2020 08:38

Poor lorry drivers - what a nightmare!

AuldAlliance · 21/12/2020 08:42

If the new strain came to Kent from France, it's a devious bugger, as shown by the map MrsPernicious linked to yesterday on this thread:

rosie1959 ha ha, we must be neighbours!

Reading some of the comments on here I'm sure some people just love the drama of it all. All these threads do is scare people and make them panic buy.

movingonup20 · 21/12/2020 08:48

Freight isn't the issue, it's the drivers! Big hauliers can possibly send the trailers over without drivers (a different front lorry bit picks up the other side which already happens a bit) alternatively containers can be sent

movingonup20 · 21/12/2020 08:50

@Butterflyfluff

Sea freight is fine and that's operating (there's issues but different ones). Container ship crews don't go ashore either

Isn’t that common place on the Isle of Wight ferry’s?
tootyfruitypickle · 21/12/2020 08:53

If Covid has taught us anything it’s that you can’t keep it out. It’ll be all over Europe. So as soon as that’s evident the borders will reopen.

You mean the container ports which are jammed up with too much shit and not enough people and haulers to get it off the docks. In part because all the drivers and lorries are stuck in traffic jams in Kent?

You're right but I sincerely hope the ports reopen before then. How long to establish that? A week, three weeks?
Jeremyironseverything · 21/12/2020 08:58

It's a pity that Boris won't do one of his famous u turns and forget about brexit completely. I want to stay.

Jeremyironseverything · 21/12/2020 09:01

Slovakia is planning on mass testing its entire population before Xmas with a 20 minute turnaround for results...

But Britain...

chomalungma · 21/12/2020 09:02

I did my shopping at 5 am because I am working till Christmas and haven't got much food in. Christmas can be busy at the best of times.

Johnson did that with his announcements on saturday, with zero thought as to what other countries would do.

But keep defending him, its quite funny.

nosswith · 21/12/2020 09:04

Austria I read is planning mass testing too. Most countries in Europe put in place restrictions aka lockdown on on before December 16th and some never planned 'Christmas bubbles'. France has a nighttime curfew.
