Italy has the new variant of the virus, first case reported this evening. It is going to be everywhere in a few days.

PandemicPavolova · 21/12/2020 00:18

He's it's suspicious isn't it that's it's Kent where the flare up has started.

Boris did say, perhaps a dig? That UK has best sequencing.. Maybe it's there already.

PandemicPavolova · 21/12/2020 00:18

What about China? Seems to have gone very quiet over there...

newstrain · 21/12/2020 00:18

The "Buy British" campaign planned for 1 Jan can be rolled out early now, good news for some who will be regaining true sovereignty early in time for Christmas

Fuckingcrustybread · 21/12/2020 00:18

@DrizzleandDamp

Iwill , just like you'll keep on believing that on 31st December the U K is fucked.

And where exactly have I said this? You said farmers were prepared. Other than the progressives I beg to differ, and they are hamstrung by practicalities.

It’s going to be an incredibly difficult volatile year, the market will balance itself ever really it always does, we are adaptable creatures.

You can beg all you like. I don't agree
HateIsNotGood · 21/12/2020 00:21

Banning Live cross-Channel exports is a UK Govt Priority and has been for some time now. If I had to choose which Country of Origin I ate my Farmed Meat from - the UK would top the List.

Banning UK Live Exports does have some opposition within the UK Farming Community but given a feasible alternative possibly based on local production for local consumption then I'm sure most of the opposition that wants to keep the Live Export Market as is, will give the Ban a great deal of consideration.

JamieLeeCurtains · 21/12/2020 00:21

It's my Asda order that's gone to fuck.

It's ok, I've got plenty of tins and packets etc in the house. It's the 'Christmassy' stuff that's gone for a burton.

notimagain · 21/12/2020 00:21

It was reported in the news last week that Brussels were threatening to ban UK air travel over Europe as of January if a deal couldn't be agreed. Then, who'd of thought it, a mutated strain of covid causes an overnight u-turn by the government over Christmas rules (despite it knowingly having been in circulation for a couple of months now) and a number of European countries ban flights to/from the UK as a result. All rather convenient really...

You might want to look up ye olde Chicago Convention with regard to the overflight rights of civil airlines before going off any further on that tangent....

Hint: Chicago is not in the EU.

TiddyTid · 21/12/2020 00:25

Oh FFS. If the EU is so powerful and the U.K. so crap why are the talks STILL continuing for a deal? Why didn't they cast us off when we voted leave.

Mostly in Westminster.

That's cheered me right up. Thanks.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 21/12/2020 00:27

Well one things for sure, I’m not sleeping tonight. I have generally been reasonably calm during most of this last few months but reading this on the news just before bed I now I feel so scared and panicking. I can feel my heart pounding and trying to stop the tears coming

What a fucking mess

EachDubh · 21/12/2020 00:27

Freight stopped at France will also impact Ireland will it not? I though routing through UK was how the majority of import/e, ports got to Ireland.

So much will be politics, yes there will be protecting people as well, but back door nasty politics will always be just under tge surface 😢

I hope the drivers get home soon, the ports should use this time to clear the backlog and maybe it is time to really reflect on values. If a bowl haircut is what's needed then form a line.

Kolo · 21/12/2020 00:28

Dig for your life.

Oh and this. Didn't think I'd be laughing this evening.

cantdothisnow1 · 21/12/2020 00:30

@AuldAlliance

Macron has said 48hrs minimum, to allow EU member states to plan how best to deal with this and to put in place testing so that freight transport can get going again. He is also not the only head of state to have implemented such measures, though obviously they will hit particularly hard to do the importance of French-UK trade, a detail Raab found out not long ago.

Crimes against humanity is a good one: responsibility for feeding the UK population lies first and foremost with the UK government and their "planning" to ensure that Brexit doesn't affect food chains over the last 4 years is currently visible for all to see on the M20. France has recruited 600 extra customs agents to deal with the effects of Brexit. The UK hasn't. If a 48hr block on imports will cause deaths to a level such that it could be deemed a crime against humanity, there is a serious problem with the UK's food chain.

It would be negligent of the French President not to protect the French population from this new strain of the virus, which the UK government are saying is so contagious that it has forced them into an entirely unpredictable last-minute U-turn on Christmas lockdown.

Every word of this. A government's primary responsibility is to protect the health of its own population.

We have a mutant virus strain in this country. This is why the borders are closed.

Kolo · 21/12/2020 00:37

@europilgrim

Bags of parsnips are 19p in Tesco.

You can't get parsnips for love or money in Italy - I would swap you a bag for some oranges if I had a way of getting them there!

Drone drop

EnPoinsettia · 21/12/2020 00:39

@Fuckingcrustybread We’ll all be beggars soon at this rate. Not choosers.

Ihateketchup · 21/12/2020 00:40

cant this strain is throughout Europe . We are the ones who have identified it. Its elsewhere, the numbers make it clear, but ignorance, or pretend ignorance is bliss

This is political, pure and simple. Either the UK has made a very stupid mistake this weekend, or its being deliberately managed by the UK govt. We have Boris so most likely a fuck up but we must have some decent ones left?

This is Brexit, pure and simple.

EachDubh · 21/12/2020 00:40

Also goods are allowed in just not out. So it depends how many drivers are willing to risk the journey or have empty lorries and are returning to uk anyway.

GerardWay123 · 21/12/2020 00:40

🤣🤣🤣

GerardWay123 · 21/12/2020 00:41

That's for the drone drop.

Ihateketchup · 21/12/2020 00:41

Ah repetition. I have a large stock of red wine and been drowning my sorrows Grin

VulvaPerson · 21/12/2020 00:42

We have a mutant virus strain in this country. This is why the borders are closed.

However, is this not the strain that was around in September? If so, its a bit closing the stable door after the horse has bolted surely, as its hardly going to have just stayed in the UK for 3 months waiting?!

EachDubh · 21/12/2020 00:46
