Can't see any dates on the gov website.

Are people going to be stopped by police when crossing? How is it going to work?

26 dec

Gingerkittykat · 19/12/2020 20:41

Police Scotland gave said they won't be stopping people but that might change. They've been stopping people on the Queensferry Crossing so an odd stance to take.

ssd · 19/12/2020 20:43

Police were in Glasgow shopping centres asking crowds of mainly youngsters their postcodes today

Scottishskifun · 19/12/2020 20:45

It's been in place for about 6 weeks!
The legislation is already there to stop travel between Scotland and other regions of the UK unless you fall under one of the exemptions.

Andi2020 · 19/12/2020 20:47

Can you travel from Scotland to Ireland

cremuel · 19/12/2020 20:55

26 dec - no, that’s for us all being in level 4. Travel ban covers the whole Christmas period.

MarshWinston · 19/12/2020 20:58

So there's been a travel ban currently in place before todays announcement?

I’d like to know this as well. Was supposed to be visiting my mum for Christmas. North East to Scotland. Not sure if it’s worth it if I’ll only end up being stopped and turned round...

Gingerkittykat · 19/12/2020 21:30

@Andi2020

Can you travel from Scotland to Ireland
It is illegal to travel from Scotland from other parts of the UK so NI is a no but no idea about Ireland.

NS said she is looking at rules on non essential international travel in the next few days so that might change.

Yes. Also a ban on moving outside your local council area if in tier 3 (or 4) which has been in place for the same time.

There are exemptions to the ban such as work, medical or caring responsibilities but by in large its been in place for weeks with a automatic fine if stopped and found to be travelling without reason

Bridecilla · 19/12/2020 22:59

I've asked in another thread but this one suits my question more.

My brother is booked to fly from Norway to Aberdeen then drive from Aberdeen to England on the 22nd.

He's meant to be coming home for a few months, not just for Christmas, as his work has dried up in Norway.

Will he be allowed?

thennek · 19/12/2020 23:00

i may b wrong but i thought u could travel through lower tiers to a final destination tier the same as ur in as long as u didnt stop

thennek · 19/12/2020 23:02

NS says the travel ban will cover the full festive period (no dates/times}
so what dates are covered bt FESTIVE PERIOD

Yes if his address isn't Scotland it counts as travelling for work (in the sense that he is returning from working in Norway).

My friend flies between Denmark and the UK for work last time he had to fly to England and travel back to Scotland.

Can people cross the border to visit their support bubble? The only document O can find is this one (split into 2 photos.

thennek · 19/12/2020 23:19

My son works in n/ireland,he is coming home for xmas on the 23rd december ,going back on the 27th for work.
Is this ok as its b4 the travel restrictions start on boxing day and as he is travelling back for his work, that is essential travel?

DecemberDiana · 19/12/2020 23:21

I took it to mean there was to be no relaxing of current law for festive period.

It's worrying tbh.

DecemberDiana · 19/12/2020 23:23

I also assume if you would currently travel for work you can continue to do so.Confused

Doidontimmm · 19/12/2020 23:26

@thennek not allowed Im afraid as only allowed to meet indoors on the 25th and no overnight stays

thennek · 19/12/2020 23:35

Doidontimmm
So what happens to all the people that travel to scotland b4 the travel ban starts on boxing day.I dont think the courts would prosecute,he is here b4 the law comes into effect and as he is single he is part of our family bubble and when he returns to N/Ireland its for work which is classed as essential travel.
im clutching at straws here i think lol

Doidontimmm · 19/12/2020 23:37

What tier are you in @thennek?

thennek · 19/12/2020 23:40

Doidontimmm
3 at the moment, but 4 like e1 else after boxing day

Doidontimmm · 19/12/2020 23:42

I was under the impression tier 3 rules say no indoor visitors and no travel in/out of your local authority so unless he doesn’t live in NI and just works away from home say Mon to Fri he is not allowed? Not sure how he can be in your bubble if he lives in another country?

Scottishskifun · 19/12/2020 23:44

I think you already know but No as he lives and works in northern Ireland and your not allowed to cross the border.

If he was travelling to Scotland for work purposes then returning then he could travel but not to come visit you

StatisticalSense · 19/12/2020 23:46

@thennek
The problem isn't that he is travelling between different parts of the UK, but that he simply isn't allowed to stay with you (or anywhere else) overnight given the current rules.
