Can't see any dates on the gov website.

Are people going to be stopped by police when crossing? How is it going to work?

@thennek

Doidontimmm So what happens to all the people that travel to scotland b4 the travel ban starts on boxing day.I dont think the courts would prosecute,he is here b4 the law comes into effect and as he is single he is part of our family bubble and when he returns to N/Ireland its for work which is classed as essential travel. im clutching at straws here i think lol
The travel ban has been in place for over 6 weeks it is not new and doesn't suddenly kick in on boxing day. It was due to be relaxed for the festive period however they have cancelled this.

He doesn't fall under the exemptions list I suggest going to the Scottish govt website

Peppafrig · 19/12/2020 23:48

Another here to say the travel ban between Scotland and other parts of the UK has been on place for many weeks.

Scottishskifun · 19/12/2020 23:49

www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-travel-and-transport/ more info here it's been in place since mid November

thennek · 19/12/2020 23:50

I may have got things wrong Doid,i thought u could have an extended family bubble if some1 was single and lived alone.That person does not have to live in ur home and i thought even in any tier ur extended family bubble was still allowed

Scottishskifun · 19/12/2020 23:54

I get that it's upsetting but please stick to it.

We have just cancelled travelling south to provide restbite care and help my MIL out as she is the carer for 3 family members and it's putting a huge strain on her. Even though this is a exemption to the travel ban they have been moved into tier 4 so our accommodation cancelled on us. We were staying separately due to shielders and have a toddler. No accommodation can be found so we just have to hope my MIL can get through the next month until we are able to get south to help her.

Covidnomore · 19/12/2020 23:58

Bride I think that would be allowed. And the ban is more on the Scottish side of the border. So he will not be stopped coming into England.

StatisticalSense · 19/12/2020 23:58

@thennek
Not if you live in different parts of the UK. If you live alone you can bubble with one other household in your own nation (at least in England, Wales and Scotland (I'm not up to date on the NI rules)) but you cannot travel between nations to do so.

Covidnomore · 20/12/2020 00:00

It is illegal to travel to / from Scotland to other home nations.
That has been in place and is unlikely to change anytime soon.

Although once my parents are vaccinated and safe, I would hope that law will have been removed .

DecemberDiana · 20/12/2020 00:02

I was told tonight Wales says a single person can "bubble" across the border!

DecemberDiana · 20/12/2020 00:03

I think the legal enforceable travel bans are totally a step too far tbh.

thennek · 20/12/2020 00:05

rules are rules and i will stick to them.
My father went into hospital 3 weeks ago as he collapsed in the garden.
They thought he had a serious of mini strokes.while in there a patient on the ward tested positive for covid,which in turn my father now has covid.
A very trying time for e1.
He is 90,things are not looking good

Scottishskifun · 20/12/2020 00:05

That's Wales own government.

If you choose to ignore it and risk the fine to be turned around by the police then that's your choice like anything in life.

DecemberDiana · 20/12/2020 00:06

I think they mean the border with England..

DecemberDiana · 20/12/2020 00:08

What do you think I'm planning to ignore?

Scottishskifun · 20/12/2020 00:08

@DecemberDiana

I think they mean the border with England..
Wales only shares a border with England the Irish Sea is on the other side..... Xmas Hmm
thennek · 20/12/2020 00:08

if we had a 1 nation approach this would have been a lot easier.

Covidnomore · 20/12/2020 00:09

I don't agree with it being put into law. But on the other hand people are idiots.

I will have to make the dash up the road at some point. Fills me with dread but I need to be realistic

I hope its not during this bloody pandemic where I habe that extra worry of 'breaking' the law. I am not sure she really understands how dangerous and divisive some of her policies are. Scrub that, she really does..........

StatisticalSense · 20/12/2020 00:12

@thennek
What you mean by that is your personal circumstances would be better accommodated. Honestly they should have mandated a 20 mile limit on support bubbles and be done with it (with exceptions for those with family members with disabilities requiring specialist care that means the choice of who to bubble with is heavily restricted) as nobody can realistically travel half way across the country for 'support' on a regular basis.

MarshWinston · 20/12/2020 00:15

Any ideas when the travel ban will be lifted? After the Scottish lockdown perhaps or is that too optimistic?

I've postponed my visit now that I know the travel ban has been in place since November, strange I didn't hear about that

DecemberDiana · 20/12/2020 00:19

@Scottishskifun we are clearly talking at cross purposes.

DecemberDiana · 20/12/2020 00:20

Shutting the Scottish border plays to some of the support base. It's worrying.

Covidnomore · 20/12/2020 00:21

Marsh i think thats too optimistic.

I would say when enough of the Scottish population is vaccinated.

This isn't just about Covid sadly.

Peppafrig · 20/12/2020 00:22

@MarshWinston it’s all clearly on the Scottish government website has been for weeks and weeks .

Too optimistic I'm afraid. I don't think they will remove it until the cases start dropping significantly.

having just spent about 2hrs looking through government guidelines,yes there is a travel ban on scots travelling to other uk nations.But there is nothing saying other uk nations cant travel to scotland.There is no restrictions on some1 travelling to scotland on any of the other uk nations websites,apart from what was introduced tonight in england.The border ban takes effect from 26th december,so surely until then you can travel to scotland.I have also looked into extended family bubbles,it states any individual living alone can create a family bubble,it does not state where they are from as long as they live alone,and do not have another bubble.
So depending on how you interpret the rules they are very unclear
From what ive read anybody from the other 3 nations can visit scotland up until the 25th december and would only have to leave if they were not in that persons extended family bubble.
