Quick poll: who intends to continue with Xmas plans in tier 4?

Missmidden · 19/12/2020 17:46

To help with my discussions with family who were due to come entirely within the rules as they were pre 4pm!

Genuinely in a total quandary as to what to say- all low risk people but it’s our decision as our house. If I thought that a big chunk of the affected population would “rebel” or that everyone else was towing the line that might help, so thanks in advance.

Promise of the need for lockdowns being over soon, not the virus being over soon. The virus is going nowhere. We need to vaccinate the vulnerable and the HCPs and just get on with it.

bluebeck · 19/12/2020 18:50

I will follow the law. I would get the sack if I was found to break it though Xmas Grin

81Byerley · 19/12/2020 18:51

@bumbleymummy

why can't people actually just stick to staying away from each other so we can all have a more normal life back sooner??

Because people have been doing that for months with the promise that ‘it will be over soon’ and it hasn’t worked?

But people haven't, have they??
tinselfest · 19/12/2020 18:51

@RunningFromInsanity

We cancelled. Is one Christmas alone really that bad? We have the vaccine now. There is an end in sight if we follow the rules now.
One Christmas alone for my MIL would be bad, yes. She's not long to go.
BabyLlamaZen · 19/12/2020 18:52

Nope. It's heartbreaking but I need to take care of my family and we will stay apart.

1forAll74 · 19/12/2020 18:53

It doesn't matter if you agree with the government policy or not, but you can't just decide as lay people to do what you wan't to do, as someone has to make some rules, or else the whole country will be doomed so to speak. People who just go about their merry ways all over Christmas are foolish, but there will be a lot of foolish people it seems.

steppingcarefully · 19/12/2020 18:53
@steppingcarefully do the rules allow that though?
As I understand it you can form a support bubble with someone who lives alone. Boris announced today that support bubbles can carry on as they are so I take that as the rules allowing it.

CountreeGurl · 19/12/2020 18:53

People making up reasons why this doesn't or shouldn't apply to them is part of the reason we are still in this mess while other countries aren't. British exceptionsim has a lot to answer for.
Christmas, unless you are deeply religious, is just another day. Didn't see so many threads about Eid being cancelled or Diwali

DirtyDancing · 19/12/2020 18:54

Yes as planned- which was to not see family during a pandemic due to the rising numbers

Grandmaschickensalad · 19/12/2020 18:54

Cancelled our plans.

Very angry and upset about it but whether you like it or not people WILL die as a result of rule breaking.

Lordamighty · 19/12/2020 18:54

Plenty of people not sticking to the rules & now we are all paying the price.
SquirmOfEels · 19/12/2020 18:55

No, I had cancelled plans two days ago (risk of taking virus to elderly relatives) which felt a bit glum at the time but is the right thing.

It is possible that the oldest of our tribe might die (of old age) before Christmas 2021. But there's no way I'm risking precipitating that death.

flipapoo · 19/12/2020 18:56

Thanks @steppingcarefully

LatinforTelly · 19/12/2020 18:56

We've cancelled our plans. Those graphs were shocking and the situation is serious.

purrpaws · 19/12/2020 18:57

We've cancelled our plans. It's silly not to follow the rules did you see the numbers and the graphs!

Weirdlynormal · 19/12/2020 18:57

MIL of course is behaving ridiculously and has apparently taken a tantrum after today’s announcement and thrown the Christmas tree at her partner I'm sorry but that made me laugh.

When you've seen someone in ICU with covid, there is nothing worth gambling on that outcome.

BabyLlamaZen · 19/12/2020 18:57

I mean it's clearly quite bad! I'd be spiting myself to give it to my loved ones. A

trilbydoll · 19/12/2020 18:57

We are tier 2, as are both sets of parents, both siblings are tier 4. We have cancelled cooking for people, we will probably go for walks with grandparents Xmas day / boxing day.

Everyone has been taking necessary precautions and I'm sure it would be fine but I'll focus my energies on eating 8 people's worth of roast potatoes Grin

JacobReesMogadishu · 19/12/2020 18:58

@Therssalwaysachoice

I wouldn’t dream of continuing with my plans in tier 4. We can’t just leave the NHS to collapse
This.
NotOfThisWorld · 19/12/2020 18:58

I was really looking forward to seeing both sets of grandparents. Now we won't. It's disappointing but we'll do lots of zoom and have a big late Christmas some time next year.

BrassicaRabbit · 19/12/2020 18:59

Tier 4. Cancelled travelling to in laws. Definitely taking it seriously. All of a sudden I seem to know a lot of people affected, some badly.

BlueSkies2020 · 19/12/2020 18:59

Can’t believe you are even questioning it

The rules are clear. You must cancel now

luckylavender · 19/12/2020 18:59

@LaceyBetty - Johnson has constantly given false promises. Look back. March - in 12 weeks we'll beat this. July - we'll knock it on the head by Christmas. Now the overinflated jdea of how quickly we can roll out the vaccine.

Vinosaurus · 19/12/2020 19:00

My job means I participate in a daily capacity meeting with the regional healthcare providers (hospitals, community services etc.), most of whom are now in tier 4 - this last week the numbers have been spiralling out of control and we/they are on the verge of collapse.

If this mutated version is spread further than the current areas it has already taken a hold in, then this is going to be worse than the first wave insofar as NHS capacity is concerned.

For FUCK'S SAKE - follow the rules!

Napqueen1234 · 19/12/2020 19:00

I know it’s hard but people really need to follow the rules. I feel for London and the SE but this is how we have felt in the NW for months and months. It’s heart wrenching not seeing family. It’s so hard to keep ploughing on especially when it feels unfair as the rules are different for others. But the tables have turned and there’s a crisis. No doubt it will spread across the rest of the country but SE and London need to take it seriously. Cancel plans, hunker down. It will end.
