Youngatheart00 · 19/12/2020 17:39

Took test at a test centre 8pm Thursday. Nothing back yet.

Anyone else waiting or got any insight into average London wait times?

Can’t stop checking my emails and texts Confused

That was meant to say 'for info'!

Santastealer · 22/12/2020 04:05

Anyone else spending half the night refreshing their inboxes? It’s diving me insane!

Santastealer · 22/12/2020 04:05

@TheSpottedZebra sorry to hear you are positive. Hope you stay well.

Inpersuitofhappiness · 22/12/2020 04:17

DDs test result came back at 3:14 this morning, she's negative =)
(Milton Keynes, tested at 8am Monday, test results 3:14am Tuesday)

I honestly don't get the NEED to know if its a positive or negative test.

It really shouldn't make any difference to how Christmas goes and doesn't make any difference at all to your health

Just chill and enjoy Christmas

Inpersuitofhappiness · 22/12/2020 04:29

@Bumsnet2021 but it does make a difference to how people can spend Christmas, isn't Santastealer the user who has no food in the house and can't leave until there's a negative test result?

NHS advised us to isolate DD as much as possible, the prospect of her spending both Christmas and her birthday as a majority in her room was very sad, and now I can give her a hug and I know that I'm not at risk in our home. It does make a difference if you're vulnerable or facing the prospect of hunger at Christmas.

People will disagree and that is their right, but this is why I think someone should isolate (or the family should in the case of a young child) of someone is deemed to need a test.

That test is only a snapshot in time (and not 100% accurate anyway)

Someone can give a negative result when 24 hours before or after they would have been positive.

Personally I would be using the Christmas break to go full lockdown and limit the spread at a tine when impact to most businesses (office, construction, schools are off any) would be lower than any other tine of the year.

Hospitality and retail would lose out, but that's happening anyway.

If someone in the household needs a test due to symptoms or t and t the whole house should isolate for 10 days regardless of test result imo.

Only someone coming form a place of privilege could make a statement like that.

My DH is an NHS worker, it makes a huge difference to lots of people if he can’t go to work.
I have very minimal food supplies left- it makes a difference to my family if we can’t eat properly.
It’s Xmas day on Friday. My one chance to eat a meal with my family which I haven’t been able to do in a long time . It makes a difference to my mental well-being, and that of my children, if we miss this one opportunity.
My DH has missed his COVID vaccination slot- this makes a difference to him personally but also to the people he works with and needs to help protect.

I am lucky, my DH will receive full pay while isolating and we won’t struggle financially. There are others that 2-3 days (at least) of missed wages will be the line between feeding their family or not.

Please don’t be so naive to think everyone comes from the same place as you.

@TheSpottedZebra

Just got my test result through (positive) - for I got a home test in the midday post on Saturday.
I sent back my postal test on Wednesday and still haven't heard anything!
relievedlady · 22/12/2020 07:31

@Bumsnet2021

Lucky if you can be that relaxed about it eh Hmm

It's not always about people's plans but actually about potentially losing 10 days of earnings in households that probably have already lost earnings this year thanks to the lockdown.

A positive result in a household changes absolutely everything for a lot of people Hmm

LimitIsUp · 22/12/2020 08:36

mrsmaryclause - are you going to be phoning them to chase up?

SingleWontMingle · 22/12/2020 08:38

Non symptom testing here "oop North". Received within about 40 minutes.

StormBaby · 22/12/2020 08:42

Son was tested on Sunday lunchtime. No symptoms but part of a community testing regime and he’s been in close contact with a positive. Father is refusing to see him for planned contact which was Sunday eve onwards until it comes back. Son is fuming. 🙄

Trying81 · 22/12/2020 09:19

Test Result this morning 9.06am for test done at 7.30pm Sunday in Skelmersdale

Negative thankfully

Marmozet · 22/12/2020 09:21

68 hours and still waiting...

Yeah I'm going to. I'll update after!
Youngatheart00 · 22/12/2020 10:13

I was exactly the same with the refreshing of the inbox....I think knowing whether or not you’ve got THE virus that’s the subject of a global pandemic is pretty important, even if what you can practically do either way is still limited. It’s human nature. Ignore the poster saying otherwise.

@bumsnet2021 that's easy for some to say. DH is paid a day rate but is self employed so if he's not at work, he's not earning. This is now 2 days of missed pay at a time which is already a struggle as the work site closes over Christmas. We were reliant on the £350ish he'd earn this week by working Monday - Weds before his site closed. If I'm negative that's now a total waste.

All this holier than thou I'd be concentrating on reducing spread is only ok it you're not in that kind of position. Luckily I work from home and get paid no matter what but DH and many others don't. What's the point of coming on a thread about people waiting for their results just to say that Hmm

Santastealer · 22/12/2020 10:16

@MrsMaryClausFace were you able to track it to see when it was received at the lab?

They won’t escalate them until day 6 which is Xmas day for us I think. Depends how it is counted, our test was 8:30am on Sunday so is that day 1?

Youngatheart00 · 22/12/2020 10:30

@Ohmango what a nightmare scenario. Is your DH entitled to the self isolation payment?

BookShark · 22/12/2020 10:31

Another one impatient for a test result here - although only tested yesterday lunchtime at a walk-in centre in SW London, so not expecting to hear before this evening at the earliest.

And yes, it does matter what the result is. As things stand, DH can't go out and pick up our turkey tomorrow so we'll have to ask one of our neighbours to do it. And somehow we need to get DD back from her grandparents (she went to stay before Tier 4 came in as they're our childcare bubble) - if we can't leave the house, then I have to ask grandparents to do a 5 hour round trip to drop her back which is hardly fair - much better if we can meet them halfway. Little things, but all things that would be much easier if I can get a negative result.

Santastealer · 22/12/2020 11:09

Just got mine back- 50 hours and is negative!

Ohmango · 22/12/2020 11:12

He might be eligible for the discretionary payment if I do get a positive result.

Otherwise I'm not sure, he could apply for the SEISS grant, he got the first 2. The latest ones though say you have to show your profits will suffer a 'significant reduction'. At the moment though £350 is a lot to us I'm not sure it counts as a significant reduction or not. What IS a significant reduction? If I'm positive and he has to isolate longer then he'll probably apply because then it will add up.

Ohmango · 22/12/2020 11:14

Congrats @santastealer!! 50 hours though. I'm at exactly 48 so fingers crossed not long...

Hazelmazel · 22/12/2020 11:24

No result here yet but not quite 24 hours yet. Still only a mild cough but my chest does not feel good and I'm very breathless if I do anything.
