Tier 4 - can I form a support bubble and go stay with my parents?

I live in London with my DH and our 10 week old baby. Can we go and stay with my parents (who live in a tier 2 area) over Christmas by forming a support bubble and if so, how long could we stay with them for? Sorry if this is a stupid question - my head is all over the place and I’m just so confused. Can anyone help?

Yes, you can: www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1374/regulation/3/made

You can also stay overnight with them, and you can travel outside Tier 4 to visit them. Ignore what others who haven’t read the legislation say.

FreshFreesias · 20/12/2020 18:07

Unless you are 9 years old do what you need to do.
So infantile.

firesong · 20/12/2020 18:18

People need to stop assuming that the tiers are far apart. I'm tier 4 and two roads away, tier 2

@Floralnomad

I can see your point but why should a 2 parent family with a child under 1 be allowed to form a support bubble whereas a 2 parent family with a 3 yr old cannot , it makes absolutely no sense at all .
As a first time parent to a five week old, I can say these support bubbles are absolutely necessary. In the first week, we had huge problems with feeding and it meant both myself and my husband got sleep in ten min spurts for the first six days...I ended up with 6 hours sleep from the time I went into labour until the 5th day. I was a zombie and was becoming a danger to myself and the baby! It was the week before this support bubble was allowed! Had it been allowed, my mum would have insisted I was firmer with the midwives that there was a problem (I knew there was but no one listened and just kept telling me it was normal...I knew it wasn’t but took the work of the professionals) she could have also had baby whilst myself and husband tried to get just a couple of hours sleep. Since being able to bubble with my mum...I feel so much better! Confident in what I’m doing and grateful of any help she can provide.

You're clearly allowed to do it @yellowtail1 and you should go. A baby under one is an exemption for a reason, because it's hard and people need support.

sheridanstar · 20/12/2020 18:25

Nope. You cannot leave or enter a Tier 4 area.

PurpleDaisies · 20/12/2020 18:29

@sheridanstar

Nope. You cannot leave or enter a Tier 4 area.
One of the exceptions is to see your support bubble. You need to read the guidance before giving incorrect advice.

This is wrong!

Seriously how many more times?

You can enter or leave tier 4 for certain exceptions one of which is to see your support bubble.

Please will posters stop spouting incorrect info!!

munchkinman · 20/12/2020 18:31

You shouldn’t travel to a lower tier. Feel for you but those are the rules xx

Two posts above yours I’ve screen shot the guidance. You are wrong.
Grenlei · 20/12/2020 18:37

The rules DO permit travel to a lower tier for various reasons, one of which is a support bubble.

niugboo · 20/12/2020 18:41

You can form a support bubble.

You can’t stay overnight.

Blacksheepcat · 20/12/2020 18:43

The support bubble is for single people and the childcare rules are for single parents. OP lives with her husband and child... they are a family and not in need of a support bubble. Also, would you really want to risk giving your parents Covid? If you’re in London where it is spreading like wildfire, you should not travel to a tier 2 zone and spread it. It’s sad but there are people spending Christmas completely alone. You’ve got your DH and baby. Enjoy your first Christmas together x

Grenlei · 20/12/2020 18:44

OMFG.

You CAN stay overnight with your support bubble (irrespective of what tier you or they are in).

PurpleDaisies · 20/12/2020 18:44

@niugboo

You can form a support bubble.

You can’t stay overnight.

Wrong wrong wrong.

What is it with all the misinformation on here today?

Just read the bloody guidance before posting incorrect information

Tier 4 - can I form a support bubble and go stay with my parents?
Timeforredwine · 20/12/2020 18:45

Support bubbles are for single parents with a child BUT it definitely was extended for a 2 parent household (not childcare) to have a support bubble with a child under 1, this was so that new parents have s support system.

Grenlei · 20/12/2020 18:46

And again...the support bubble is not just for single people, it is also for parents with a child under 1 year. Just like the OPs situation.

Timeforredwine · 20/12/2020 18:46

And to add to is correct you can travel and stay in any tier if this is your support bubble.

Timeforredwine · 20/12/2020 18:48

But do I think it's a good idea to travel to a lower tier when you have your husband for support then sorry but no.

TomasinaTiers · 20/12/2020 18:49

Everyone is Covid policing Grin

Hope you figured out you’re allowed to OP

Crakeandoryx · 20/12/2020 18:55

People were asked to not leave tier 4 by both Boris and Whitty. Their reasoning was sound, do not spread the new variant any further. If the whole country get it we're all stuffed. Economically the country needs to not get in any more debt. We don't want more people getting it now. Deaths will go up, just don't. Dig deep and know we're near the end now, we're literally looking at 12 more weeks before vaccine roll out gets to the point of lockdown easing!

The country is stuffed anyway. There are exemptions from the law which allow people to leave Tier 4 areas. Take it up with the government if you don't like it.
catpoooffender · 20/12/2020 18:58

OP I hope you've gone to visit your parents. People on this thread saying you couldn't or shouldn't are either misinformed or do not remember/have not experienced life with a newborn, or both.

Macmac2016 · 20/12/2020 18:59

At last someone with a brain why are people not grasping what's going on,if people keep mixing & moving around it will never end if everyone just took a step bk & think to themselves that staying put prevents spreading the virus maybe just maybe next Christmas people wont need to be living like this because hopefully by then it will be totally controlled i wish people the best of health

MassiveSalad · 20/12/2020 19:04

Because it's fucking idiocy to risk taking the new Covid strain to areas that don't yet have it

It is literally all over the news that all areas have detected cases of this new strain so you might want to dial down the hysteria a notch.
