Isn't it?

They're panicking now.

@Thewiseoneincognito

Anyone utterly stupid enough to even think for one second that meeting up for Christmas was ever a good idea needs their head checking. Only a god damn fool would be doing this.

Christmas must be cancelled otherwise 2021 will be worse than 2020.

Imagine how horrific it will be when the gathering outbreaks start coming out.

And a bleedin vaccine is going to do fuck all once it mutates further.

Saying 'don't mix' isn't 'cancelling Christmas'. It's a predetermined date 25th Dec. I'll be spending it on my own. It'll still BE Christmas. ALL the Baileys & the remote control will be MINE!! The tree is looking tat-tastic, the carols will be on.

This 5 day 'Christmas Bubble for 3 households' needs to be cancelled!!

If someone living alone needs to bubble up then do so as safely as you can, but don't be socialising for the sake of it.

Yes, parents, grandparents etc will miss seeing the kids, but FGS, think long term!! Death is very permanent. Unless someone is terminally ill, staying apart this year, will mean many more future Christmases.

MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 01:27

Im actually going to spend some of Christmas Day trying to persuade but not bully my parents to have the vaccine. They are currently refusing. They are bloody furious.

firthy85 · 19/12/2020 01:29

done with this thread. seriously! if the government weren't breaking their own rules there wouldn't be so many "rule breakers as you call them. and just to finish with. everything you do in life is a risk. getting up in the morning and walking down stairs for breakfast is a risk, crossing the road is a risk so maybe we should stop doing all of the above forever more. protect the elderly obviously by all means but please with all this histeria ffs. and you know why the government is not going to stick to the christmas rules, because they want to do whatever they like over the festive period then try to justify a thrid lockdown blaming the general public for any spikes that may come from it. and so if they relax the rules for everyone there can't be any backlash whilst secretly they will continue doing whatever they like whilst shackling the rest of society. yup you voted for them. don't it make you feel proud.to me it's simple, really dangerous virus prooved. close everything down until the final cases are treated. end result, no further covid

MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 01:32

yes this thread does have the distinct whiff of a final push

notangelinajolie · 19/12/2020 01:33
Well I wish they would.

I'm planning on going food shopping on Tuesday might hold out till Wednesday or Thursday am latest and it would save me a lot of money if they would announce it before then.
Plus, I'd quite like to spend all Christmas Day in my PJ's. I would love a nice Christmas day NOT slaving over a hot stove.

Instead, me and DH would make curry and drink lots of wine.
Come on Boris - pretty please??

Jourdain11 · 19/12/2020 01:34

@SoWhatNo

If they judge it to be necessary, low-risk, or worth the risk, fine. If not, they don't do it. That's all! I wish people didn't have this desperation to be told what they're allowed to do. I wish everyone would quit with the guilt-tripping. Personal responsibility... risk assessment..

Yeah that's not what risk assessment means.

Saying "I recognise the risk and choose to take it anyway" is the opposite of risk assessment. You fud.

Oh, grow up! It's not recognising the risk and choosing to do it anyway. It's assessing the risk and making a choice based on that.
SleepingStandingUp · 19/12/2020 01:34

Or take responsibility for your own life @notangelinajolie and cancel it yourself

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 19/12/2020 01:36

I really wish they would get on with it

Telegraph, which I read to know my enemy, says
Boris not ruling out a third lockdown
and
Virus mutation could bring tighter restrictions - specifically travel

If they press ahead I imagine a lockdown 28 Dec so we can all fully enjoy the no deal brexit moment till mid Jan including secondary schools. Which will be shit.

ineedaholidaynow · 19/12/2020 01:38

Problem is many people’s risk assessment only includes their immediate family when working out mixing households, they are not thinking about anybody else outside that group they might infect. So if you can isolate for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after Christmas, then yes your Christmas will be pretty risk free, but unless you can do both those things then you are possibly going to impact other people

2020canfuckitself · 19/12/2020 01:38

My Christmas will not be cancelled. As a family we have not seen each other since before lockdown.

It's too much all this.

Remmy123 · 19/12/2020 01:38

I'm in tier 3 - the rates are 2 in evey 1,000 have it in my area. It's ridiculous

TheCrowsHaveEyes · 19/12/2020 01:41

Mine isn't going to be cancelled. We'll be at home. We'll have dinner and presents and go to an online mass. We decided ages ago that we wouldn't be able to see people. You don't need a decree from Boris.

All the hyperbole around it is embarrassing tbh. The people who've been ignoring the rules all along will continue to do so and those of us who understand collective responsibility will have already planned for being at home.

MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 01:43

No @TheCrowsHaveEyes thats a bit manipulative Like @2020canfuckitself ive been following the rules.

Jourdain11 · 19/12/2020 01:44

Or mixing with minimal risk, if they have that option and possibility.

Just remember, there are many people who live alone and is it fair to expect them to spend the day alone rather than with friends or family? I just think everyone who's planning a cosy, family Christmas should also think about those people before being all smug and running a total guilt trip.

Cancelling the Christmas bubbles will in the long term kill more people than Covid
I say that as someone who is ECV with an ECV parent
I won’t do that to my parents and with 2 children who broke up last Friday and battoned down since I don’t think we’ll be bumping anyone off

Jourdain11 · 19/12/2020 01:54

Just speaking personally, I've never seen MercyBooth spreading conspiracy theories, silly or otherwise.

TheEchtMeaningofChristmas · 19/12/2020 01:56

The Guardian is Holy Writ on this site. Makes me laugh

Probably more to do with its not having a paywall. Hmm

Mintjulia · 19/12/2020 01:56

I think anyone with any sense already realises travelling in those five days will be hell and is leaving family get-togethers until Easter.

Travelling from region to region during a pandemic is obviously ill-advised unless absolutely unavoidable.

MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 02:03

@TheClaws Link please. Ive never spread a conspiracy theory in my life. But you keep saying the things you need to say if it will get you through this

@Jourdain11 Thanks Flowers

MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 02:05

I would HATE going a long distance at Christmas anyway. Too much hassle even in normal times.

Hardbackwriter · 19/12/2020 02:15

I don't think the government thinks there's much chance of a meet-up at Easter, given they've just extended furlough to the end of April...
MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 02:20

I dont think a good proportion of the public will stand for any more goalpost moving.

Peppafrig · 19/12/2020 02:22

They need to cancel it .

MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 02:25

The government and the virus will undoubtedly bow to your not at all unreasonable demands

Well @VanGoghsDog after what ive just seen i dont think they will have to. Other countries will do it for them when they see our MSM salivating over this new strain.
