Isn't it?

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/18/boris-johnson-calls-crisis-meeting-to-discuss-response-to-new-covid-strain

They're panicking now.

They should but I don’t think they will as too risky vote-wise and the stick they will bet for yet another u-turn. Popularity seems to win over doing the right thing.

ChristmasTreeFairy5000 · 19/12/2020 00:18

Aw bless them thinking anyone is actually going to take a blind bit of notice.

Sennetti · 19/12/2020 00:18

@MercyBooth and we are supposed to care you are threatening to ‘bump’ a few threads

Do it, you rebel you!

MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 00:19

"They can cancel other religious festivals the night before and expect those people to abide by the ‘rules"

Yes thats what they did to Eid

With Christmas it was said that the Nov lockdown was to enable families to see each other at Christmas. 23 Nov they said restrictions would be lifted
THEN weeks of guilt tripping and emotional blackmail.

NOW the last minute cancellation so actually more than what happened with Eid.

Funny how quickly the thread about Tobias Ellwood bit the dust and yet posters are so concerned about the virus spreading when families of 4 to 6 meet but not parties of 27

Very VERY suss.

Sennetti · 19/12/2020 00:20

Maybe this is the point where the government find their balls.... maybe

I’ll worry when all annual leave for police and armed forces are cancelled, in fact no I won’t. As we aren’t mixing with anyone anyway.

isawthatt · 19/12/2020 00:20

It needs to be decided soon, so many people won’t comply

TragedyHands · 19/12/2020 00:21

Eh?
It's never been cancelled before, for any reason.

DelphineWalsh · 19/12/2020 00:21

World is still turning. The 25th Dec 2020 will still happen.

Sennetti · 19/12/2020 00:21

All this panic is off the back of this new strain. Which they didn’t predict.

TeaBanditTeej · 19/12/2020 00:22

@ChristmasCookies

They can cancel other religious festivals the night before and expect those people to abide by the ‘rules’

But this ‘religious’ festival they cant cancel....
Bullocks!!!!

@ChristmasCookies do you reckon that's what they'll do for Christmas? It's been interesting reading about this It's only my partner and I this year, I'm cooking. We will see the rest of the family when we can.
EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 19/12/2020 00:22

Too late Boris ya moron.

VanGoghsDog · 19/12/2020 00:24

@MercyBooth

Im going to my mums. Its a half hour walk so local. If they try and stop me from doing this i wont comply with a Jan lockdown. And i will also expect all non essential flights to stop.

And i will bump the Eid threads and tag in everyone who swore blind they wouldnt do this at Christmas.

The government and the virus will undoubtedly bow to your not at all unreasonable demands.
MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 00:25

Didnt see as much vigour against the ski trips or summer holidays.

MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 00:25

Ah my bad Protecting the NHS is only a job for those lower down the scale

onedayinthefuture · 19/12/2020 00:26

@ChristmasCookies

They can cancel other religious festivals the night before and expect those people to abide by the ‘rules’

But this ‘religious’ festival they cant cancel....
Bullocks!!!!

This argument is so boring.

@EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire

Too late Boris ya moron.
Yep way too late. Had his chance earlier in the week
Jourdain11 · 19/12/2020 00:26

People have to be able to take responsibility for themselves and the risks they take. If they judge it to be necessary, low-risk, or worth the risk, fine. If not, they don't do it. That's all! I wish people didn't have this desperation to be told what they're allowed to do. I wish everyone would quit with the guilt-tripping. Personal responsibility... risk assessment... it used to be fine for medically vulnerable people and during bad flu seasons, so why not now?

Elephant4 · 19/12/2020 00:27

Anyone with an ounce of sense would have seen this coming.

Oh here we go. Sneering at those of us who don't have fortune teller globes or whatever they're called.

We had all this sneering nonsense with the summer holidays.

Give over @helloxhristmas

They won't be finding their balls thought. Will they? Isn't it just giving into to the most popular opinion of the day? U turning again.

Even if decides this weekend that it will be no mixing or no travel does he honestly think people will listen? Of course they won't. People will do whatever they want anyway.

Because this is 3-4 times more deadly than flu during a bad season, and a lot more contagious. We have to keep taking care of each other.
firthy85 · 19/12/2020 00:30

i am very sceptical about this entire thing anyway. i am not doubting that this virus is dangerous to a person with a compromised immune system but if it really was so bad why risk relaxing the rules for christmas? wouldn't it make more sense to leave things as they are until more vaccines can be roled out? granted i don't know anyone who has died from the virus but over these past few months i have been starting to feel all this is about suiting own agendas from the people at the top. more political than about public health

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 19/12/2020 00:31

To me it’s so obvious, don’t see your elderly relatives, and then enjoy a big get together next year! You would have to be bonkers to mix right now if you have kids at school! Am so worried about families that do go ahead and what could happen! I certainly won’t be putting any of my family in that position just for a bit of turkey!! But good luck to those who think it’s worth it!

BlueSkies2020 · 19/12/2020 00:33

@firthy85 tell that to the staff at Addenbrookes hospital (one of our best hospitals) who have covid outbreaks on their wards tonight and a 30 hour wait for a bed in ED

The NHS is at tipping point right now.... I think it’s real enough

Totally agree
