Isn't it?

They're panicking now.

But the telegraph is reporting the Oxford jab will be approved before Christmas- yay!

HeddaGarbled · 19/12/2020 02:27

The Guardian is Holy Writ on this site. Makes me laugh

You are as wrong as a wrong person on wrong day in Wrongland. The Guardian’s position on trans rights has been frequently criticised and this has leaked into a general condemnation.

I’m intrigued as to how you have reached such an erroneous impression. I suspect you’ve made some sort of ‘generally tolerant and liberal and sometimes left-leaning therefore must be Guardian readers’ leap.

PerveenMistry · 19/12/2020 02:29

@CantSayJack

Christmas isn’t cancelled though is it. People can still celebrate, just keep to your own households or pay the price in January. Quite simple really.

Yes. Everything not related to basic food supply and health care should be canceled.

Jrobhatch29 · 19/12/2020 02:32

Basic food supply? I need a tonne of gin and quality streets to get me through this!

kittensarecute · 19/12/2020 02:34

I'll be seeing my family regardless. I'm not changing my plans.

VenusTiger · 19/12/2020 02:36

Did VE day celebrations, protests, mass-beach visits, illegal raves, Christmas shopping Regent St etc. (too many to mention) cause this too?
I wish ppl would turn off their bloody TVs, I really despair.
I will continue to read peer-reviewed studies from around the world and go with the decades old SARs information. Some of you need to wind your necks in. If you can't bring yourselves to read facts and to go and find the data on collateral damage in all of this, then I suggest you all mind your own business. I continue to stand up for mental health and I will not be "told off" by Morgan/SAGE fans when it comes to my only and precious child.
Conspiracy theorist, armchair-expert, anti-vaxxer, anti-masker - what has happened to us, where's the debate on FACTS, why are we ignoring data and experts - I've lost count the amount of times I've linked ONS data on MN for it to be ignored - we are all really dumb.
Merry Christmas.

@kittensarecute I hope you are ok Ive seen you on a few threads on here and i know you have been struggling. Flowers

VenusTiger · 19/12/2020 02:56

@MadameBlobby here is an article for your DS (layman friendly) to read and help with his anxieties concerning asymptomatic transmission, please also read the whole thread from Dr Yeadon. If you wish, read about Dr Yeadon's career path into pharmacology and respiratory viruses. This is not a conspiracy theory.

I'm not expecting anyone to read this, as per, but want to help esp. where children and mental health are concerned:

What are you on about?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 19/12/2020 03:06
@MNHQ Please do something about these threads
What exactly do you want them do about threads discussing Covid? Ban them? Or only allow people to agree with your view?

renallychallenged · 19/12/2020 03:06

@Onceuponatimethen

Oh god - I get that it might be needed but we’ve isolated for two weeks and have presents spread across the households and food order ditto. Would be sad not to see elderly family and one set of people will end up with just huge turkey but no stuffing, veg or wine etc etc
Is this not a bit foolish anyway? Any member could get symptoms / track & traces right up to Xmas morning and have to cancel? Each household should have enough supplies for their own Xmas
MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 03:09

Each household should have enough supplies for their own Xmas

Ahh yep Thats it.

renallychallenged · 19/12/2020 03:16

I'm not being particularly sarcastic for a change! Just genuinely wondering why, as a household, you wouldn't have a back up chicken & some aunt Bessie s in the freezer! If the lack of roast dinner because auntie pat wakes up with a cough so you can't travel bothered you that much of course. Personally I'll stick to selection boxes
MercyBooth · 19/12/2020 03:20

I do. I dont think you understand what i meant

IncidentsandAccidents · 19/12/2020 03:26

What an utter mess. It's too late to make these gatherings illegal with 4 days to go. All the government can do now is keep wheeling out medical experts to spell out how reckless it all is and hope enough people get the message.

Furries · 19/12/2020 04:14

@Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint

To me it’s so obvious, don’t see your elderly relatives, and then enjoy a big get together next year! You would have to be bonkers to mix right now if you have kids at school! Am so worried about families that do go ahead and what could happen! I certainly won’t be putting any of my family in that position just for a bit of turkey!! But good luck to those who think it’s worth it!
This!

WHY do so many people think they need the govt to tell them what to do?

As a (albeit small) family, we live a long way from each other. We’re staying at our homes for Christmas - and keeping fingers crossed for a summer get together.

It’s one Christmas (actually more for us, but for other reasons), but hopefully worth it.

I think it is too late, plus they are very aware that they can’t really enforce it effectively and don’t want that to be blatantly shown on the day. I think that is partly why they allowed the mixing in the first place, although it doesn’t explain why they chose the exact relaxation of rules they did...they could have done less I think. I think most likely all they will do is further emphasise the risks to people, which will be enough to change the minds of some of those likely to pay attention to any rule change anyway. Already I have heard of several families who have cancelled their plans due to change in risk perception. So I think that’s all they will do, but then again I may be proven wrong.
pollyglot · 19/12/2020 04:40

I don't have a dog in this fight since I now live in New Zealand, but when I suggested some time ago that the UK postpone Christmas until the summer, I was asked if I was on drugs. We still use the tracking app, and do all the sensible things, such as hand washing and testing and wearing masks if feeling unwell, but it's a joy to be able to watch the America's Cup sailing in the sunshine because we locked down when it became obvious that it was sensible so to do, and as a "team of 5 million", most of us pulled together to avoid a crisis in our health system. Christmas will be the usual barbecue at the beach. Your leadership is crap, as of course you know, and although we have been berated as docile and unthinking, at least it's worked for us, so far, of course.

TheClaws · 19/12/2020 04:40

Well @VanGoghsDog after what ive just seen i dont think they will have to. Other countries will do it for them when they see our MSM salivating over this new strain.

MercyBooth this is a quote of yours. You say you don't spread conspiracy theories? Anyone that that has "MSM" and "salivating" in the same sentence I'd think tends in that direction.

Frenchdressing · 19/12/2020 04:41

Maybe they will put us in a nationwide lockdown after the 27th. Feels too late to ‘cancel Xmas’. Just can’t see them doing it.

I can't see them doing it despite the stupidity of allowing this particular relaxation in the first place. It seems like common sense to me that the less people mix households indoors the less the risk of transmission.
Frenchdressing · 19/12/2020 04:57

Yes the whole ‘relaxation over Xmas’ thing is going to bite us on the bum one way or another.

countrygirl99 · 19/12/2020 05:01

We will be seeing my parents and the ILs at some point between Christmas and New Year. But as we see them every couple of weeks, more often if a crisis, for care purposes I can't see that having a mince pie or a few Quality Street is going to add significantly to the risk. Perhaps we should just leave them with unpaid bills and unmaintained houses to be on the safe side.

housemdwaswrong · 19/12/2020 05:03

Plausible, we are in lockdown in Wales from the 28th.

inquietant · 19/12/2020 05:09

Every time it is too little, too late.

The UK government has accepted 500+ deaths per day.

They gave up trying to prevent deaths months ago.
