@Firefliess
I don't think pubs closing should have much effect on year 12 and over half of year 13 Grin

I don't think the heavier lockdown restrictions would effect year 11-13 so much in comparison to year 9 and 10 either, so I don't think that's the answer. (I have a year 9 and year 12, so know the sort of thing they're doing)

ceeveebee · 24/12/2020 23:05

To be honest given that massive disparity between the ONS estimates and the figures we see here, it does make me wonder whether we are all slightly wasting our time looking at reported cases - rates for secondary are estimated at 2500/100,000 compared to actual reported cases of about 300/100,000

Anyway like many of you, I am planning to try not to think about COVID until after Boxing Day so see you on the other side!

Sorry can't remember who asked specifically.
I live in the UK now, born in Hungary, but spent half my childhood in Iraq :)

DecemberStar · 24/12/2020 23:36

That's hilarious Sun!

Keepdistance · 24/12/2020 23:43

T2 primaries had nativities with audiences.
In some way more primary dc probably get lugged to shops etc (maskless) they are on pt and cinemas and theatres -1000 people inside maskless kids again.
What are the rates of infected kids elsewhere worldwide. Even if kids are more resistant i would still expect them to be more infected than adults as they are wearing masks nowhere. Vs adults only not in restaurants.
So average child
School
Public transport could be 10x a week
Cinema once a month?
Rainbows/scouts 1/week
Shops 1+ a week
Swimming weekly
Restaurant weekly
soft play
And cant help that with most asymptomatic numbers build up.

They need to do minimum 10 days off after NY so the cases drop.q

Chaotic45 · 25/12/2020 00:00

@Keepdistance yes you're right. Young people have not been taking the same measures as adults- I was amazed to hear that the central rugby body had also authorised 15 minutes of full contact rugby in junior matches regardless of tier (ie if the sport is allowed, then contact is allowed also) Confused.

ceeveebee · 25/12/2020 00:02

Not in T3 though. Hardly any of those things are open. The only thing my DC have carried on with is football and tennis. Nothing indoor and no cinema, restaurants round here (or public transport for primary aged). Rates were getting very low but have doubled in the last fortnight

you could market that design of tree - space-saving and you effectively get 2 trees, so cheaper and eco friendly too.
Piggyinblankets · 25/12/2020 09:51

Yes, every rule that applies to adults does not apply to children (magic you see)

DS can still do indoor football training and full 11 a side matches. Am very much in tow minds about him doing this. He's 16 and they play and shout and high five like adults.

The RFA need to read all the recent articles about tackling and future dementia . Things may change for children. Once we thought cricket helmets were silly. Hopefully the ridiculous encouragement of heading on English kids' football , too. Another topic!

Anyway... Happy Christmas all!

DecemberStar · 25/12/2020 12:16

News said there's been a Covid outbreak at the Milton Keynes lighthouse lab. So that's good then...

Piggyinblankets · 25/12/2020 12:38

They have had so many issues with that lab.

Witchend · 25/12/2020 12:42

I think you can get artificial ones which are half a tree, designed to stand against a wall.

Keepdistance · 25/12/2020 15:54

If kids only have mild symptoms surely its likely their immunity doesnt last as long?
So eventually we will see highest levels in youngest ki ds then reducing by age and higher in women than men?

InterfectoremVulpes · 25/12/2020 16:13

32725 / 570 for today

Firefliess · 25/12/2020 17:00

Happy Christmas all. If you're looking at the numbers over the next week or so, probably best to look just at English data, as that is being updated daily, whereas the rest of the UK are taking some days off so will be reporting big catch up figures some days and none at all on others.

Yeah, even just losing Wales is going to drop cases and deaths by about 10%. The 29th is going to be terrible Tuesday on steroids.
FeelingBIue · 25/12/2020 18:37

Add to that any loss of capacity from the Milton Keynes lighthouse lab the figures will be all over the place for the next week.

I'll need to dig deep for a bit of good news, but i'll search it out!

schimmelreiter · 25/12/2020 19:07

We have a vaccine and a deal - we could have been facing this surge with neither.

MarshaBradyo · 25/12/2020 19:09

Yes, this is it. I hope Oxford Az completes the trifecta and we see the spring in with the good.

Not there yet but getting there slowly.

FeelingBIue · 25/12/2020 20:13

That is very true; 28th will hopefully bring good news on Oxford AZ.

well, another opportunity missed then :)
ancientgran · 25/12/2020 22:19

Our town council just announced they would start vaccinating the over 80s first week in Jan. Don’t know why we are later than other areas. My aunt is over 80 and in her area the over 80s are 3rd week in January.

Piggyinblankets · 26/12/2020 08:27

Flood alert in my town threatening the hospital. Not good.

MRex · 26/12/2020 09:15

@ancientgran - late 70s relatives have been told February, which ties in. Apparently that's solely based on Pfizer BioNTech timing, which of course is harder to distribute. When Oxford AZ is approved, it could potentially go through any GP surgery, which would speed up issue immeasurably. Our GP gets through all flu jabs in 2 weekends; say it's 1/3 are eligible and 50% take-up that's 1/6 of their patients they do in 4 days. Kids don't yet have a tested vaccine for covid, so that reduces the number who can be vaccinated now. But even at half the speed and with the extra dose they could feasibly blast through all adults in under 3 months if they had the doses.

BigWoollyJumpers · 26/12/2020 09:36

Our local vaccinations have started in two really iconic places. MacLaren in Woking offered their facilities, lots of jokes about being in pit stops and turnaround in under 20 secs, and then at Guildford Cathedral, divine intervention, and all that.
