Gosh I am so impatient, exposed to two separate cases thursday and friday last week (guess where I work?), they informed me Sunday evening and Monday I got symptoms (fever Monday evening, sore throat, flu-like symptoms), tested 8am yesterday. I feel fairly ok, no idea what I have, but the not knowing is doing my head in. I'm currently self-isolating in my bedroom away from the family to try and stop it spreading (they would have to isolate over christmas :( we'd like to at least go out for a walk! and I don't want my husband and children to be ill if I can help it). But, if this is just some weird snot-less cold then I'd like to start going back to life.

Snap @RhubarbTea.

Layladylay234 · 17/12/2020 02:54

I'm waiting, had mine yesterday morning at 11 at a testing site, had hoped it would be back by now so DS could have the option of going in for his last day of the school year. I live in Leicester and they've just opened up lateral flow testing and am seriously thinking about going down there tomorrow to get a test if I've not heard anything

Frownette · 17/12/2020 03:11

@Layladylay234 it's not easy waiting is it - good luck with it.

I still have a dodgy throat but at least I know it's unrelated to COVID

Layladylay234 · 17/12/2020 03:20

It's just a bit rubbish. I've had tests in the past and they've come back quicker than this. Also just read I can only get a lateral flow test if I have no symptoms so just have to sit and wait.

Frownette · 17/12/2020 03:31

I did think testing is a bit slow at the moment (or slower than normal!)

I'm sure it will come through later today, fingers crossed

mumof1879 · 17/12/2020 07:18

We had a test last week that came back in 24 hours but this week we’ve had tests again for different family members and it was a lot longer! Got a mix of positive and negative results this week so I don’t think what your result is makes a difference. Good luck x

FurForksSake · 17/12/2020 07:19

I didn't realise the system barred you from getting a second test.

Now at 47 hours. I'm now feeling that I must have done an insufficient test and that's why it is taking so long.

Aside from changes to taste and smell I have all the classic symptoms (though fever was only on one day) and I'm a close contact so it would be a very odd coincidence if I've picked up something else!

OP posts:
BiscuitDrama · 17/12/2020 07:22

If it’s insufficient it would come back as quickly, they won’t spend hours pondering over it. Smile

If you’ve had symptoms and are awaiting test results your whole family is meant to be staying at home. Am I reading it right that your children are still going to school?

FurForksSake · 17/12/2020 07:28

No, you aren't reading that right. We've all been home since Monday. We are completely isolating and I am then isolating further within the house so as to hopefully stop it spreading to them (not to stop them isolating). I work in a school, I promise I would never put anyone at risk like that.

My results email ended up in the spam folder. Which was useful Hmm

Apple1971 · 17/12/2020 07:43

I did my test at 9am Monday. Got it back 11am Tuesday. Mine was positive.

I assume you work in a school from your post? I’m a teacher - haven’t been in close contact with anyone who tested positive in school but my partner is a nurse and has been so I assume that’s where I got It from.

My partner did her test on Monday at 1pm as hasn’t got it back yet so I think they just take different times depending on when it’s done and how busy it is.

Hope you get it soon and it’s all ok.

If it does come back positive, your self isolation period starts from the day after your symptoms start. So according to the app I have 6 more days left as long as I don’t have a fever.

Apple1971 · 17/12/2020 07:45

Sorry meant to say partner did test Tuesday. Still waiting for results.

Also she has a weekly test at work. Her last test (last Monday) was negative

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 17/12/2020 08:05

I thought I’d wait and see how I feel this morning, and I’m not quite right, though I can’t pinpoint what feels off, just a bit fuzzy. So I took my temperature and it’s 37.6 which is just below the fever level they set but still I’m usually 36.4 so definitely something going on inside! So with that and the tickly cough, and the close contacts, I’ve booked a test. Was hoping for a drive through but the nearest was 30miles away so I’ve had to order a home test instead.
Can I still book a home test if one comes up closer even though I have a postal on the way?

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 17/12/2020 08:06

That was meant to say can I still book a drive through test even though I have a home test on the way? Would rather know ASAP and drive throughs are quicker

FurForksSake · 17/12/2020 08:07

I'm not feeling too awful now, really. Just like I have an awful snot less cold. It could just be end of term-itis or a throat and sinus infection (horrendous sinus and eye pain for 24 hours that kept me awake, but no congestion or snot) and if it isn't covid I'd like some antibiotics or something to try and sort those out!

OP posts:
1990s · 17/12/2020 08:11

Got mine 6am this morning, test was posted back Monday. Negative!

1990s · 17/12/2020 08:12

Way back in March when there was no hope of getting a test I had horrendous sinus pain and loss of taste OP, sinus pain was so weird.

Annny27 · 17/12/2020 08:38

Glad that a few of you have had ours through now :) gives me hope that mine will come back :p officially 48 hours now 🙈

@furforkssake I am the same, if it isn't covid then I need to book a doctors appointment

BiscuitDrama · 17/12/2020 08:40

Oh good.

It’s amazing the different interpretations people have of the rules (somewhat understandably as they are so complicated and keep changing!).

FurForksSake · 17/12/2020 14:15

come on results!! They really can't take much longer.

Lungs are burning today, which is nice.

@furforkssake I am constantly checking my emails!!! Even when I wake up during the night I check my phone. Its such torture waiting

WTFCovid · 17/12/2020 14:43
@FurForksSake you can't Book another for 10 days in between.

That's why it's silly when people test because they've been in contact, get a negative and then feel ill but can't get another one
You definitely can. My eldest had two less than 48 hours apart. (His symptoms got worse after a very quick negative result coming through, then three more of us also had symptoms)

I've been the same. A friend who had hers done Monday late afternoon got hers at lunchtime today. I figure mine should therefore turn up maybe 6-8 hours later... So I am thinking mine are due this evening.

@WTFCovid You can't - at least, not using a home test kit.

I was told to get a test by the JOIN Zoe app on Wednesday and tested using a home test kit on Saturday. I was told to test again by the JOIN Zoe app yesterday and the website now won't let me order a second home test kit.

Ah we did walk through, maybe that why we could.
