I'm fairly sure that Boris has long covid as he seems to be suffering from brain fog so that should help things along.

No, he's just thick as shit.

52andblue · 16/12/2020 17:58

@jay55

Spineless twunt. I don't want to say I got it wrong but please don't see anyone over Christmas.
This. 100% this.

So unable / unwilling to be wrong that he will risk the lives of strangers.

itsgettingweird · 16/12/2020 18:00

@RedToothBrush

I'll sum up.

"Please don't be a bellend but you have permission to be a bellend as long as you think about not being a bellend".

Thems the Roolz.

Grin

It's not funny but this summary was spot on!

Sittinbythetrees · 16/12/2020 18:03

Seems sensible to me. They clearly explained the risks and urged caution but are allowing us to make our own, limited choices. Do you actually want a full lockdown over Christmas?

gebruiker · 16/12/2020 18:05

Of particular note was the advice not to mix in crowds in Boxing Day sales - if that is the advice, why allow them to go ahead. Just like the days before the first lockdown when people were advised not to go to the pub. Followed a week later by closing the pubs because advice is nothing, meaningless. If the government means it, they have to man up and enforce it.

Sittinbythetrees · 16/12/2020 18:07

Full lockdown would be nuts - in low risk areas two families with young kids getting together would be pretty safe. Two families with uni aged kids from London going to stay with elderly diabetic relatives would be stupid - surely people can be trusted to realise that. We shouldn’t need to ban the first scenario to stop people doing the second.

CKBJ · 16/12/2020 18:09

Just saw on news part of Boris Johnson’s press conference...”quite frankly it would be inhuman to cancel Christmas”, Johnson answered following a question from a journalist. Was it not inhuman then to cancel Eid in Leicestershire on their equivalent of Xmas Eve? And Diwali not going ahead? No wonder there is so much discrimination and racism in this country.

TheChineseChicken · 16/12/2020 18:10

Agree, I wasn’t equating the 2% and the over 50s. Those were separate things

He always came out with stupid shit but he seems to really struggle to find words now, every other word is um or ah.
Defenbaker · 16/12/2020 18:26

If Boris had announced a U turn and imposed restrictions over Christmas, I doubt the die hard "It's Christmas so I'll do what I want to" brigade would take any notice. In fact, some might have even thrown "Fuck you Boris!" parties, to spite him.

I thought he got the tone about right, and I quite liked the "little Christmas" wording. If his words make some people scale down their plans then perhaps some lives will be saved. However, some people hate Boris so much they'll tear him to pieces, even when he does something right. Haters gonna hate.

willsantausesantatize · 16/12/2020 18:27

Shut the shops on Boxing Day.
I can see the news on Boxing Day morning as I write this: people pushing and shoving to buy cheap bags or shoes.
They might say ' don't do this' but if the shop is open people will go there.

PhilCornwall1 · 16/12/2020 18:30

My boss um's and ah"s all the time, he hasn't got long covid, he's just got an inability to speak well in public.

Still waiting for the opportunity to prove it.

Apart from the fact that speaking well in public should be a given for the nation's top politician, BJ was the laughing stock of Europe when he was London Mayor with all his silly stunts, which is probably one reason he hates Europe. This daft and vacuous demeanour is nothing new.

He wasn't always like that though. This is him being reelected as mayor on 2012.

Very unkind comments on here, lets hope you garner my sympathy if you are seriously ill and close to death's door with covid queen I can't really read these threads, such hateful bile spewing out. Kind of deranged.

HarrietteNightingale · 16/12/2020 19:15

just gets shittier and shittier. My father died last week ( not Covid) but we cant arrange a funeral until at least New Year, all legals and paperwork on go slow

I really sympathise, I lost my dad in the third week of October (very sudden but not covid) and we only had the funeral on Monday due to coroner taking ages. Only able to get death certificate in the last week of November Thanks

Lifeispassingby · 16/12/2020 19:21

@dementedma and @HarrietteNightingale you have my condolences as my FIL died last week and we have the funeral on Xmas eve but DH and I both have symptoms so aren’t waiting for covid test results, if it’s positive we cannot attend the funeral. We were planning a quiet Xmas anyway as seems sensible because we are in tier 3 area and my parents are tier 2 x

Boris Johnson is heading the government that's fucked up the handling of this pandemic. If you think the fact he's had Covid makes him somehow exempt from criticism, the corollary of that is that his experience should have lead to improvements in his governing. But it hasn't . He's happy to take the pay, isn't he? If he's brainfogged he should bugger off and let someone else do the job.

I'm not the one being nasty about him - the closest I got was saying he has always said stupid shit. I'm saying that as someone who suffers from something very similar to long Covid that he's clearly struggling.
QueenStromba · 16/12/2020 19:41

Would it be nasty to point out that Whitty's breathing doesn't seem great?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 16/12/2020 19:55

'Boris Johnson is heading the government that's fucked up the handling of this pandemic. '

Oh change the record. Europe is in exactly the same position. Wales is doing terribly with bumbling Drakeford at the helm.

I wasn’t sure or not. Some people do some people don’t. I think we just have to accept that this is new and we don’t really know. The scientists can make some very educated guesses, but we don’t really know what level of immunity from vaccines will allow life to go completely back to normal.

It might be long covid with Boris. But I wouldn’t rule out stress tbh. Brexit’s going to shit and so is covid. There’s quite a huge level of pressure on him and a lot of lives and livelihoods resting on him not fucking up. He doesn’t usually like it when he’s actually got to do the work.

HarrietteNightingale · 16/12/2020 20:01

Sorry to hear this. I hope it isn't the case Thanks
