Carrying on from the old Ocado thread. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/a4045676-Ocado-tips-hacks-Toblerone-and-Christmas?msgid=102560793#102560793

I have been contributing, just changed my name to prevent being outed over something!

@DobbyTheHouseElk

That’s why I’ve been getting an occasional Sainsburys delivery. For tomato purée and tins of basic pulses. It’s really annoying me. I want basic stuff not Harrods or Harvey Nicks. It’s ridiculous.
I don't understand why so many basics are unavailable!
Quarantino · 24/02/2021 16:14

For the first time in a whole year, I have managed to get a Sainsburys delivery instead of Ocado! I actually struggled to get to the £40 limit (to start off with... ended up adding loads of chocolate...) whereas with Ocado I can easily hit that with the basics.

Hope I get everything I ordered!

The main benefit of Ocado at the moment is locking in the deliveries weeks in advance. And the ease of the website (Sains is slow and prone to errors). I do love a stroll round a Sainsburys though... maybe in a few weeks I'll be brave enough (nearest one is in a large city whereas my other supermarkets are in quieter towns).

@Peaseblossom22

I agree about prices and the inability to get the basics. I am really missing the Waitrose essential range. Wanted haricot beans last week the only ones were Biona at £1.10 a can or posh glass jars. I just wanted a can of beans

Tried Waitrose click and collect but I found the search function very limited and lots of things I generally buy in store were just not there at all.

I’ve got a couple of different options.

But guess what the Ocado 55p ones are out of stock .

StanfordPines · 26/02/2021 21:57

I had my first Waitrose delivery today.
All was ok except that I order some ready meal type curries, mainly for the freezer as Ocado don’t seem to do many vegetarian curries, and most of them were dated for tomorrow. Really annoying as if I had gone into the store they would have been reduced.
And the vegan meatballs were subbed for falafel. I said I didn’t want them and the driver asked what falafel was so he could find it. He then asked what it was made out of when I told him chick peas he said ‘eww’. Now I’m not going to complain about something like that but that is really rather rude.

Fuss · 26/02/2021 22:00

I think they have twigged I’m cheating on them. Two random emails today and I don’t get much at all lately.

GaryUnicorn · 26/02/2021 23:41

I think I have been taken off the star reviewer list 😟 no email this month....

We are doing meal boxes for most of our meals now

bruffin · 27/02/2021 09:11

I decided i wanted some nice custard yesterday, they only have low fat custard or ambrosia, no nice pot of thick vanilla custard either ocado own brand at all, and m&s only low fat!

Fuss · 27/02/2021 09:32

@GaryUnicorn

Same. There was a time when star reviewer kept me with them but the price increases are now such that I’d be paying for the freebies over the course of the month anyway.
Foxhasbigsocks · 27/02/2021 12:42

I know this is petty but I really don’t like the (very M&S aligned) new branding as much as the old colours

GaryUnicorn · 27/02/2021 14:27

@fuss, to be honest, it was one of the last things that was keeping me hanging on. I will use them until pandemic eases off, for my Mum, but will then cancel my smart pass.

I’ve got a Sainsburys delivery this week.

Only thing I dislike about Sainsburys is the lack of bags. I hate having to empty the crates tin by tin. It knackers my back. Also I feel I’m being slow and holding up the delivery driver.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2021 18:07

The lack of bags is a bit of a pain. I've been tempted to ask the drivers to just turn the crates upside down! We have it to a bit of a fine art now. I sit on the floor and fling it all at dh checkout style while he more carefully places it on the stairs.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/02/2021 18:59

My porch isn’t clean or warm enough to sit down. It’s un heated tiled floor, usually sprinkled in mud from kids boots.

I get loads of bags for life and boxes and chuck into them. But the bend and twist action is hideous for my back.

That’s why I like Ocado. Drag bags in and sort.

Madcats · 28/02/2021 09:06

My council now incinerates our food waste and allows us to put it in plastic bags rather then the biodegradable ones (so that's where my Ocado bags go now).

When I have had "no bags" deliveries I've put all the small stuff into those big blue IKEA bags.

Timbucktime · 28/02/2021 10:02

I do think it’s wrong that they’ve started charging for bags again but won’t take them back.
I’ve got quite a few pounds worth of bags in my garage now which I’ll probably never get the money back from.

Timbucktime · 28/02/2021 10:06

I’ve also suddenly started receiving texts to say that I am their next stop and will be with me in a few minutes.
Having said that I have a 9-10am slot and received the said text at 7:50am. It they didn’t turn up until 9:45 am

redpandaalert · 28/02/2021 10:47

I feel free I’ve cancelled my smart pass. A completely cancelled order last Sunday with no notice was the final straw. Expensive, often no basic foods such as tomatoe purée. It took me three attempts to cancel they wrote an email which said are you sure you want to cancel as we won’t let you be a smart pass holder again! My £250 weekly shop is now split between Waitrose and sainsburys. A good website doesn’t forgive poor customer service and limited choice if you don’t buy ready meals. All the Ocado soft fruit was rotten within 12 hours of delivery in the last 2 months. Waitrose raspberries last a week - not sure how but they do

Timbucktime · 28/02/2021 11:22

That’s shocking redpandaalert

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/02/2021 14:17

Well so far it doesn’t look good for Sainsburys. Had notification that the delivery is missing several things. The subs aren’t going to be ok. So that’s annoying. Ordered for my parents and they want the specific thing they asked for.

I had forgotten about Sainsburys subs/missing items. 7 today.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/02/2021 16:40

Reporting back from Sainsburys delivery.

It wasn’t great.

9 missing/inappropriate subs.

Bananas rotten, tangerines rotten. Cauliflower so grim the delivery man looked like he was going to be sick when I handed it back to him. It was putrid.

Rest of stuff was badly packed/chucked into the crate.

No bags so took ages to unload the £250 delivery. Had my bags ready, but still takes ages.

Driver not wearing a mask.

Not impressed.

Quarantino · 28/02/2021 16:46

Argh, that's awful Dobby. Got my first Sainsburys coming next week... I've already had notification (when I logged in to amend) that one of my items isn't going to be available. Bit apprehensive now...

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/02/2021 16:50

I had to change loads of things when I amended too. I’d forgotten this because Ocado doesn’t work like that.

Honestly it was a bit disappointing. The worst part is the things I ordered for my parents didn’t come.

The cauliflower was so awful. The smell was grim.

Quarantino · 28/02/2021 16:51

Do they still keep the subs in a separate bag, at least? Will never understand why Ocado don't do that.
