Carrying on from the old Ocado thread. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/a4045676-Ocado-tips-hacks-Toblerone-and-Christmas?msgid=102560793#102560793

I have been contributing, just changed my name to prevent being outed over something!

Curiously, I can now see slots every 3 days. That's after months of being restricted to a maximum of 1 delivery every 7 days.

@CoteFolie same here. I was so surprised yesterday when I went to book my regular weekly slot to see that I could book another for this Friday and every 3 days after. Once a week is perfectly fine for us, but it is good to have the option of being able to choose different days!

Generally been quite happy with Ocado recently. Haven't had subs or missing items for quite a while now. Having said that the out of stocks on the website continue to be a pain as well as the lack of variety on some common items, so top up with a Tesco click and collect every few weeks.

Madcats · 18/02/2021 13:50

I've just had my Morrisons delivery (on time and without any subs); even the red boxes and carrier bags are the same! I've bought lots of Indian ingredients and I am chuffed that the poppadoms arrived uncrushed.

The earliest sell-by date is Sunday for some dressed crab and bread rolls. Otherwise everything else is 1 week+.

A minus point for lots of things being out of stock (surely there isn't a cotton wool shortage).

I suppose it isn't really "bye-bye Ocado" because they'll still be earning money from me, but I've been sad enough to compare a few prices and can see that I've saved quite a bit.

herecomesthsun · 18/02/2021 14:02

That sounds good! It might be that our experience with Morrisons was much to do with the general supermarket problems around April, rather than being particular to them.

Has anyone used Aldi click and collect? I notice you can now do this with food and they have some very good value European items sometimes, it might be fun to try some for a change. (as long as it is organised in a reliable and safe way)

Madcats · 18/02/2021 14:34

I ALMOST used Aldi Click and Collect, before Christmas, but DH then decided we ought to use the car to recharge the battery (after I'd scanned through the website). It might have been because it was Christmas and they were constantly restocking, but there seemed to be quite a bit of stuff that was in the fridges/freezers but not on the website and stuff showing as OOS that was sat in the store. I wish we had one nearer (though stores do vary depending on their demographic).

I buy Aldi wine online; its worth a look.

RockyRoadster · 18/02/2021 14:40

Well, I’ve now managed to book another Ocado delivery and I had loads of choices of days and time slots! I’m not sure if it’s just coincidence but I did contact them via the website asking why I couldn’t book any more deliveries stating how unhappy I was as a long standing customer.

AdaColeman · 18/02/2021 14:47

I seem to be getting a lot of damaged items in my orders recently, I'm finding it increasingly irritating.
It isn't only that I don't want to use things such as ham when they have broken seals, but often I've bought other items especially to use with the now damaged item, so I'm wasting these also.
All very frustrating!

StanfordPines · 18/02/2021 15:09

I seem to have more slots opened up too.

Fuss · 18/02/2021 15:39

@StanfordPines

I seem to have more slots opened up too.
I've just had a look and for the first time I can book slots outside of my Thursday reserved slot. Either they have opened up more slots or they have seen I've been cancelling and are trying to offer me more lol
IsThisNameTaken · 19/02/2021 09:12

I'm still on one slot every 7 days - although am getting to book morning slots at least now - for a few weeks I was only offered evenings, even when booking 3 weeks ahead as soon as I was allowed.

Last 2 deliveries have been earlier than usual (earlier slot at 7.30am plus they've arrived 15 mins early) so that may be why but both drivers have (very quietly) put the bags at the door and then knocked quietly and have been back in the van driving away by the time I've answered the door! Not a problem as no subs but if I hadn't been downstairs I wouldn't have even heard the door. I would have at least expected them to check someone was there before driving off. Any longer delay getting to the door and the foxes would have been rifling through my shopping.

PowerslidePanda · 19/02/2021 13:06

I'm also on one slot every 7 days and a very limited selection when the new ones open up. But they seem to be doing something funny with holding them back... We're in the process of moving house and about to move in with my parents, so I had to change a couple of already booked deliveries to their address. Suspected I might not get a slot at all, given the limited availability even 3 weeks out. But I actually had a lot more choice! So I figured maybe it's better availability in their area. Except today is the day that my next slot becomes bookable, and I'm now booking in their area but being given a lot less choice 3 weeks out than the ones I was doing 1 week and 2 weeks out yesterday...

Just had a Star Reviewer email with 4/4 things I’m interested in trying (although a £10 pack of 3 LED lightbulbs is OOS for my next order date; but it had never occurred to me to look at Ocado for LED bulbs, and I do need one atm, so that was a bonus!)

And there was a long list of decent flash sale things at 50% off, which hadn’t happened for a long time, so that was cheering Smile

Because of this post i looked at my emails and found a star reviewer email. I got 4 items including rhubarb gin! I dont drink gin but will have to sample some, DC are fighting over it already and one of them is in Wales!
GaryUnicorn · 19/02/2021 17:41

Nooooo, my star reviewer email hasn’t come through yet. Please let it be gin!

Jealous of the gin! I got porridge, a washing up brush (2nd one in the last 6 months, how much washing up do they think I do?!) and some pesto. But, hey, it's free so can't complain.

IsThisNameTaken · 19/02/2021 19:14

Oh, and some 'odour eliminating room spray' ... yes teen DS, it's coming your way!

What's the criteria for star reviewer?

StanfordPines · 19/02/2021 19:41

@Aurorie11

What's the criteria for star reviewer?
You have to review stuff then wait to be asked.
GiantKitten · 19/02/2021 21:03

My other free samples were dried prunes, pink lemonade and swing bin liners Confused

@Aurorie11 I honestly don’t know how you get picked for star reviewer!

herecomesthsun · 19/02/2021 21:27

I think you get offered star reviewer if you are a good customer. But reviewing products on the website might help things along?

Quarantino · 20/02/2021 00:21

Fuck's sake, I've just seen for myself what people were talking about on this thread a while ago re offers being changed after you've bought them! It's outrageous! A week or so ago I added Twinings teabags to my delivery for next week as they were half price.

Just went on today to add a few more things and couldn't believe the teabags were just sitting there for full price at £5! Wouldn't buy them at that price.

It's such a stupid bizarre way of doing offers, by the date you add them even though they know full well the offer won't apply on the delivery date. I always book the delivery date first as well before adding anything.

The flip side is I then went and checked to see if a few things were now on offer (Lurpak, Dolmio etc) that hadn't been when I placed the order, and they were. So I added them.

Fairly sure this has been going on for a while as I'm sure I've looked at my receipt after delivery and wondered why I've bought something (which was probably on offer enough to make it worth trying).

TheSparkleJar · 20/02/2021 00:39

Use by dates are getting atrocious with Ocado. It's not uncommon to unpack and realize that some of the Sainsbury's top-up shop stuff I bought a couple of days before still has longer till expiry than the new Ocado stuff.

This week I had a delivery with a one day expiry date on the chicken (the delivery driver didn't mention it), two day expiry on the salmon, and the sausages expire the day after that. I know you can freeze stuff, but really...

merrymim · 20/02/2021 11:17

Anyone else drowning in bags now?

I can't see how they're going to be able to refund them all, so am resigning myself to writing off the cost this time.

The "we'll refund as many as you used on your last order" approach isn't going to impact the size of the bag mountain, as our orders tend to be the same size each week.
