I have been contributing, just changed my name to prevent being outed over something!

Yes - it was one of the many cancellations and substitutions on my order.

How was it?

I use my loft to store my toilet roll obsession. I think of it as added insulation 😂

Flash sales question -

If you add something to your basket during checkout at a flash sale price, does it go back up to normal price if you make changes and checkout again later?

I think this has just happened to me and I've ended up paying double what I expected for something quite expensive.

It never used to, but I've had this a couple of times recently. I caught it both times but if I hadnt would have ended up paying a lot for something I was only wanting to try. There must be a (another) glitch.

Actually wasn't keen - too many onions that made it a faff to eat. You didn't miss much! The Cornish Cruncher Bake is much nicer, always seems to be in stock and comes in a nice pot I wash out and use for tapas (and hoard like Gü ramekins!) Smile

Yes, I've been pondering on them for months! Just seems such a ... commitment. Xmas Grin

The WGAC stuff comes in a pretty flat (& very sturdy) box which tucks away neatly in various places. Mine have gone on top of a wardrobe & - though I haven’t tried - I think they might fit behind the loose covers under the sofa.

Although having said that, my most recent delivery was actually kitchen towels & I'm wondering now if the loo roll boxes contain 2 tiers? Confused

(Still great boxes though. I’m a connoisseur of boxes. And the loo rolls ones said “you’ve got a nice bum” on them Grin)

The annoying thing about your checked out basket is, if some things have then gone on offer, they don't automatically give you the offer price.

So if I buy bread on Saturday for the next Saturday if it goes on offer on Thursday and my order is done and checked out, they won't discount my bread.

Even if you go in and amend you don't automatically get it you have to empty that item and re add it. So you have to be on your toes all the time and aware what offers are on.

This is true. BUT If your order is delivered after an old offer has expired, you do still get the old offer price. I appreciate that a lot - I don’t think anybody else does it? Pretty sure Waitrose doesn’t. And checking the new offers is easy enough!
Furball · 30/12/2020 22:12

True @GiantKitten - I didn't look at it from that angle

See, normally that's how Ocado works for me, but I thought that the most recent time the offers changed, it didn't (i.e. I lost all the offers I'd been due to get). Will be paying close attention when they change again next week!

I see the CEO of Ocado Retail is up for a CBE!

Why does that not shock me. Shows what a farce the Honours list can be sometimes
Mominatrix · 31/12/2020 08:41

Why would he not? Ocado has built a business plan and an infrastructure which can/will be rolled out for large scale delivery of not just groceries, but any good. This technology is building a rival to that of Amazon and could be rolled out in other countries eventually. I’d say that is an impressive achievement. Just because you might have complaints on some, in the big picture, small details does not negate the achievement.

bruffin · 31/12/2020 08:44

I dont think the damage with M&S is being diagnosed by Covid atm

herecomesthsun · 31/12/2020 08:59

I don't think however that you get the old price on bundled items like Dine for 2

He who? It's the Ocado Retail ceo, not Ocado itself.
Onceuponatimethen · 31/12/2020 10:05

@bruffin agree - dp and I were saying this. We’ve had a few delicious m & s item - I can think of max four. The rest has not been like for like. We’ve got in mind moving to Sainsbury’s for the weekly stuff and then doing a once monthly Waitrose one

Madcats · 31/12/2020 11:03

I've been caught out by the flash sales a couple of times. had it just been once I would have assumed that I had made a mistake. Pre M&S (oh those glorious days!) I used to be able to pop a "flash sale" item in my basket on day 1 and the price would still be honoured for delivery several days later even if I'd added/removed loads of things. 90% of the time it still works.

I had a delivery on time without missing items or subs yesterday (overlooking the fact there were a few things that I wanted that weren't in stock). I would note that the few items of veg I bought have use-by dates of Friday or Saturday (I know they will survive in my fridge but I would have though they would have had fresh stock after Christmas by now).

I went through a phase of being bombarded by "who gives a crap" Facebook ads. What put me off was the fact that all their loo roll is made and shipped halfway round the world from China. Not that I've noticed where Ocado make theirs....

Furball · 31/12/2020 11:46

He who? - Its a she - Melanie Smith.

Furball · 31/12/2020 11:49

I'm pretty sure I had an email probably about a year ago Hmm saying that they would now honour discounted items already in your basket even if they were not on offer when you came to check out.

Quarantino · 31/12/2020 11:56

Confused by all this - as you set a delivery date before you check out surely the offers on what you put in your basket for that delivery date are the ones valid until/on that delivery date?

Furball · 31/12/2020 12:00

If you go in and amend later sometimes the offers that were on have expired and new ones have come along.

heydoggee · 31/12/2020 12:02

Just had a Best Ever mac and cheese offered to me for half price in a flash sale and you bet I took it!

Quarantino · 31/12/2020 12:03

Do you mean change your delivery date or just the items ? sorry I'm not arguing that this happens but surely it's all linked to dates and offers are either valid on the delivery date or not?

I've definitely had a random reduction not show up on some fish, luckily I noticed and contacted them. Even harder to spot as it's priced by weight, I realised I was still charged the full price per kg.

PowerslidePanda · 31/12/2020 12:49

The wording of the offers is "when you order by " not "delivered by".

So my next order is 7 Jan. Pepsi Max is "Now £7, when you order by 05/01/2021". So if I put it in my basket today, I should get it at offer price for my 7 Jan delivery. If I wait til 6 Jan to add it (assuming my basket is still editable at that point!), I'll have to pay full price.

That's how is has always worked, until recently at least. Just before the offers expire, I go through adding them to all of my upcoming orders, just in case (I then remove them nearer the time if I don't want them). But as I said in my PP - I think that last month, some of the offers in my basket had gone back to full price, so they may have changed it now.
