Anyone gone in shops all the time and not caught COVID?

Just wondering if there are any posters who go shopping all the time (more than 2 times a week) and places indoors like pubs, cinemas etc and haven't caught it?

I know supermarket workers don't seem to have been affected as much as I would have thought being inside all the time and around customers but curious to know if any posters haven't restricted their shopping or going anywhere but not caught it

I haven't restricted anything I've done since things opened up after the first lockdown. I go to supermarkets 2 or 3 times a week and go to non essential shops and restaurants at least once a week. We've been for family days out at theme parks, zoo's, soft play etc. 1 child in school and DH and I work in a restaurant. As far as we know we haven't had it, could have had it asymptomatly of course.

SmileyClare · 10/12/2020 11:03

The ONS (national statistics) calculated recently that 0.22 % of the population have had covid in England so far.

Based on probability, the majority of people regularly shopping won't have caught it.

MrsMiaWallis · 10/12/2020 11:03

Yes, me.

Tehmina23 · 10/12/2020 11:04

Me, but I've always worn a mask & gelled my hands.

WingingWonder · 10/12/2020 11:05

Supermarket workers have got it... sickness is at an all time high
The food you ordered online for delivery/ that whole team got taken out by 1 guy being positive and the rest of the team then having to isolate
And also imagine being someone who can’t wear a mask and working in a shop, it’s awful

SmileyClare · 10/12/2020 11:05

Whoops sorry, typo. 1.22% of the population have had covid

trulydelicious · 10/12/2020 11:06

@Gobacktothe90s

I think maybe you should differentiate between going to 'the shops' every day (e.g. supermarkets and non-essential shopping) and restaurants, pubs and cinemas

Spongebobsquarefringe · 10/12/2020 11:06

I work in a primary school, eldest in secondary, I go shopping, pop out if I need anything and I live with someone who is over 80 and CEV and none of us have had it

Smartiepants79 · 10/12/2020 11:07

Me, I’ve been working in a school and shopping as normally as I’m allowed to. Not been ill at all this winter yet. Most shop workers I see are wearing masks??

Namechange2020lalala · 10/12/2020 11:08

I got to shops most days, I don't see it as a high risk environment. You're constantly on the move so unlikely to be within 1m of someone for any length of time.

Notcontent · 10/12/2020 11:10

Not pubs or cinemas etc but certainly food shops and a few restaurants.

I think some people are less susceptible to it or get it with no symptoms. My dd had it a few months ago and I didn’t get it (or had no symptoms) despite the fact that I had close contact with her.

GabriellaMontez · 10/12/2020 11:14

Yes.

Not cinema. But I work in schools.

Maybe I've had it. Maybe I've been lucky. Not everyone will get it.

Really, no. That would give it a fatality rate of about 7.5%

I imagine that what the ONS have said is that 1.22% of the population have Covid right now.

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 10/12/2020 11:16

I’ve been shopping regularly (not every day), out to dinner most weeks when the restaurants are open, and once to the cinema and pub respectively. I wear a mask, gel my hands and keep six feet from people. Most of my friends and family have been doing much the same and we’ve had no covid cases at all among us.

georgedawes · 10/12/2020 11:17

@SmileyClare please can you provide a link for this estimate from the ONS?

Wasn't that in a week? Not overall.
lurker101 · 10/12/2020 11:18

Yes me, but I suspect I had COVID in February, so may have “immunity” if that was COVID

FourTeaFallOut · 10/12/2020 11:18

We have 1,766,819 confirmed cases in the UK. That's not 1.2% (which would be 804k in a population of 67million) And that 1.7 million is just the confirmed and does not capture the majority of asymptomatic cases nor symptomatic cases at the beginning of the year which were not serious enough to merit testing.
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 10/12/2020 11:19

I've been shopping loads, sometimes just for a wander. Less than I used to, but that's because I'm pregnant and really unwell and the mask cause me to get quite faint.

FindHungrySamurai · 10/12/2020 11:20

I’ve been shopping a lot, all the time in all sorts of shops, been into loads of cafes and restaurants to get takeaways and I’ve been on holiday twice sightseeing in outdoor locations, but I’ve only eaten indoors once, in a pub where we were literally the only customers (it was about 2pm on a weekday).

Been on the Tube about 20 times, mostly for medical appointments.

None of us have had it. (We all WFH).

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/12/2020 11:20

Been places but not restraunts, pubs, clubs or cinema never did before covid. Had plenty of take aways and online shopping, still nothing. Work in care so get tested every week.

Tfoot75 · 10/12/2020 11:20

Of course, most people I know have been to shops regularly and virtually no one has has it (or tested positive rather). My 70yo DM goes to tesco every other day and out for meals as often as she possibly can (tier dependent!).

The % quoted above is total nonsense by the way, as its highest antibodies were detected in c8% of the population in the summer. This has decreased now showing that antibodies decrease over time, but as rates are now high again the % that have had it could be as high as 20% of the population. Nearly 0.1% of the population have died - if only 1% had had it that would mean the death rate is 10%!! The fatality rate is something like 12% in over 85s, 3% in 75-84 and much lower than this in all other age groups.

BiscuitDrama · 10/12/2020 11:20

My mum has been in a shop every day. She’s very careful with mask and distance though.
She hasn’t got it as far as we know.

Jrobhatch29 · 10/12/2020 11:22

The 1.2% figure was in a week

During the most recent week of the study, we estimate that 664,700 people in England had the coronavirus (COVID-19) (95% credible interval: 628,300 to 701,200)1 This equates to 1.22% (95% credible interval: 1.15% to 1.29%) of the population in England or around 1 in 80 people

Siepie · 10/12/2020 11:22

I've been going to the supermarket or local food shops 2-3x a week since after the first lockdown. Occasional trips to other shops lately and to coffee shops and restaurants in the summer. DP is patient-facing NHS, although not on any covid wards. Neither of us have had it (as far as we know).
