Anyone gone in shops all the time and not caught COVID?

Just wondering if there are any posters who go shopping all the time (more than 2 times a week) and places indoors like pubs, cinemas etc and haven't caught it?

I know supermarket workers don't seem to have been affected as much as I would have thought being inside all the time and around customers but curious to know if any posters haven't restricted their shopping or going anywhere but not caught it

Me. I have no car so I have to go shopping at least twice a week to be able to carry everything. I also have to use public transport regularly. I work in a factory so I'm out at work every day, have a DS at primary school. When they were open we went to the cinema, trampoline parks, indoor crazy golf, restaurants. I've been in crowded pubs on numerous occasions in the summer time. We also had a night away in a hotel.

Neither of us have had Covid that we know of, nor have we ever had to isolate at any point.

Me. Shopping most days; been to pubs, restaurants, cafes, cinema, theatres, museums, at least once or twice a week except during lockdown when everything was closed; buses/trains several times a week. I wear a mask and I'm careful about washing my hands.

combatbarbie · 10/12/2020 14:46

I've commuted from Scotland to England throughout this year, go shopping regularly, done a couple of eat out to help out etc.... By statistics due to my travelling and frequent stopping at services etc I'd have thought I would have caught it. Not even a snuffly cold 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes me . Usually do one big shop weekly and/ or pop into my local mini Waitrose 2-3 x week for eg newspaper / wine / cat food /croissants for DP who wfh . Also went to gym when it was open , walk dog daily but almost always early in morning when few people around , a couple of restaurant visits and 1 cinema . Also carried on working NHS . And no I haven’t had it . Probably just luck and although I appreciate this is a whole new virus with its own rules I can’t remember the last time I had any viral infection / cough / cold whatever .

Pipandmum · 10/12/2020 14:58

My sister works in a supermarket as a picker and hasnt. My son works in a clothing shop and hasn't (and I bet he doesn't wash his hands that much, though I've wears a mask).

ExeterMummaMia · 10/12/2020 15:30

I've been in and out of the shops at least 3 times a week, likely more. Since the first lockdown ended and the whole 'only essential shopping trips' guidance ended I've gone when I needed to. Assumed everyone was to be honest.

I also work out of cafe's and pubs regularly at least twice a week (except obviously in the last lockdown when they closed) as we are tier 2 (tier 1 until recently). I did whatever the guidance allowed me to do - meeting people indoors when allowed, taking DC to kids entertainment places (trampoline park, soft play, cinema, clubs).

I'm not saying this to come across as flouting the rules at all - in fact, I've been strict on ensuring we only do what's allowed, when its allowed. But wanted to show that for a lot of people, they are attempting to carry on as normal as possible within the covid guidelines.

I've not had Covid (that I know of - no illness at all this year which is unheard of for me! And since June have been tested regularly) and neither has DH or school aged DC (that we're aware of)

yearinyearout · 10/12/2020 15:37

I'm in our local Tesco at least twice a week, plus have been going out for meals etc when not in lockdown, and haven't caught it. That said, all the places we've eaten at have been mostly empty so I wouldn't class them as high risk.

yearinyearout · 10/12/2020 17:12

My Aunt had it last December, diagnosed bacterial pneumonia but we know it was Covid. She lives in a very rural part of the country with her son and wouldn't go out much expect to work. She doesn't go to pubs, restaurants and gets her shopping delivered. Go figure.

Sounds very likely that it wasn't covid and was bacterial pneumonia.

Elfieishere · 10/12/2020 17:14

Me. Haven’t caught it and Iv been everywhere and go out at least 5 times a week.

Wilkolampshade · 10/12/2020 17:24

Yep, me.

WreckTangled · 10/12/2020 17:27

I never go to the shops more than twice a week even pre Covid but I have been shopping as usual, to restaurants, and in the office plus two dc at school. I don't know anyone who has had it and no school bubbles have closed in any primary schools in my area. We're lucky we live in an area with few cases.

alexdgr8 · 10/12/2020 17:31

who knows ?

that's the point. we don't know, most of us. best to assume everyone is infectious. including selves.

harridan50 · 10/12/2020 17:32

Yes and work in a hospital

Pootle40 · 10/12/2020 17:33

Yes me

Pootle40 · 10/12/2020 17:34

Don't wipe trolley either etc. Since the very beginning have just washed hands when I get back

Gwenhwyfar · 10/12/2020 17:34

Gone to shops, work when I was allowed to, on packed public transport, restaurants and cafes when that was allowed. Basically I've done everything that was allowed and haven't caught it.
I do know a lot of people who have had it, but only one who thinks he got it in a shop. Shopping is not particularly high risk.

CallingOnAvengingAngels · 10/12/2020 17:38

Yes, we've been shopping as normal, went away for a few days in the UK in July and again in October, been out for food and a drink when things were open, went to the cinema when open, not taken any extra precautions other than usual basic hygiene stuff we'd have done anyway pre-covid. Not had it that we know of. Both wfh since March so I guess that reduces the risk.

Well 43% of people that get covid are asymptomatic so you don’t really know.

Northernsoullover · 10/12/2020 17:43

I'm not scared of shopping. You are moving all the time and distancing. We have good mask compliance too where I live.

Gwenhwyfar · 10/12/2020 17:43

@Didyousaynutella

Well 43% of people that get covid are asymptomatic so you don’t really know.
That means the majority do have symptoms so we would know if shops were a high risk place for transmission and they don't seem to be.
Autumn101 · 10/12/2020 17:51

We’ve been to pubs, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets throughout. Also been on a plane, train and stayed in a hotel. Two DC in school (one primary and one secondary) and as far as we know haven’t had it. I had the antibody test around 6 weeks ago before an operation and it was negative

WreckTangled · 10/12/2020 18:09

I've had a negative antibody test and am currently having twice weekly Covid tests so pretty sure I haven't had it and don't currently.

SecretNutellaFix · 10/12/2020 18:21

Worked right through in retail, anxious the entire time.
Husband works for civil service, 8 weeks off at the start, extending back to full time work 6 weeks after that, full time since. He has only set foot in my place of work or a small independent shop in town since lockdown lifted for the first time.
He decided last Monday, to eat lunch in the canteen at work for the first time since he went back.
Guess who tested positive for Covid last Thursday? That's right. He did. Despite all the protections that have been put in place he tested positive. I tested negative, so went on to 14 days isolation. I began coughing and my temp was a bit raised Monday, so I am waiting for my test results to come back which will hopefully be tomorrow.
One member of staff has claimed to have come down with Covid, a fair few weeks ago, but has form for taking the piss with regards to sickness policy. I wouldn't be surprised if she did catch it because she likes to out for a bit of a drink with biggish groups of friends and some of her usual haunts haven't been the most stringent on regulations. A case of Schrodingers Covid?
