Anyone gone in shops all the time and not caught COVID?

Just wondering if there are any posters who go shopping all the time (more than 2 times a week) and places indoors like pubs, cinemas etc and haven't caught it?

I know supermarket workers don't seem to have been affected as much as I would have thought being inside all the time and around customers but curious to know if any posters haven't restricted their shopping or going anywhere but not caught it

I go to the shops most days, back to pubs / restaurants / gym / football as soon as I could, and haven’t (that I know of) had it. Not a denier at all or anything, have just been in a lower rate area.

SmileyClare · 10/12/2020 11:25

Yes good point, 1.22% of the population had covid in November 2020.

I was just pointing out that of course there are people (even regular shoppers Confused) who haven't caught covid. Most people haven't caught covid full stop.

I'm making an epic fail quoting the right information on here Grin but wouldn't it be far more accurate to look at some vaguely official data rather than survey random people on mumsnet? That's not going to provide you with conclusive evidence of anything.

ptumbi · 10/12/2020 11:26

I have worked throughout this, I've had 2 days off this year. i work in clinic, seeing 30+ patients a day. I know 3 people who've had it, none seriously, 2 were in April. I've shopped as usual. I had been to the pub where possible, and used the eat-out-help-out. I've not had it (that I know of).

DP works in a hospital, he has tested negative for antibodies, so he hasn't had it either.

Seriouslymole · 10/12/2020 11:27

DH works in 5 different schools during the course of a week, I have 2 DC in 2 other schools (1 primary, 1 secondary) go to the shops at least twice, if not three times a week and we have never had an inkling of it. Still had a vomiting bug and colds though... sigh....

Barmyfarmy · 10/12/2020 11:32

I knew people were still leading fairly normal lives but seeing people post about how they've carried on as normal and being confident they don't have it is terrifying. Definitely a bit of salt in the wounds of people who have to stay at home because people are carrying on as normal and are asymptomatic and passing it on

I’ve been to pubs/restaurants to eat since they opened a couple of times a month. Not been to the cinema or anywhere else really, but go shopping frequently - both food shopping and other shopping. Since I’ve been back in the office in July I pop out for lunch to various places a couple of times a week (Tesco, Greggs, sandwich shops). Get takeaway a couple of times a week. I’ve been fine so far (touch wood!)
A colleague has been largely staying in, barely going out due to shielding her dad. She caught it in a supermarket (she thinks, it’s the only place she’d been). No one else in her house showed any symptoms luckily.

Bagelsandbrie · 10/12/2020 11:34

I go into some sort of shop most days of the week. I can’t ever get my head around doing a weekly shop and like fresh bread etc so generally pop into the supermarket most days. Doing okay so far....! (And I’m in the clinically vulnerable group- I didn’t shield as couldn’t due to family circumstances - son with special needs and dh having to work outside the home etc so seemed little point in it all). I do however live in a rural area. Nowhere is ever that busy. I don’t think I’d feel the same if I lived in London (as I used to) for example.

Freetodowhatiwant · 10/12/2020 11:36

Yes me, in the lockdown I wiped down shopping and was very careful but now in just going about my day as usual and in accordance to the rules. So whilst that means masks indoors and gel when I go into a shop it also means I am going to the shops when I need to, eating out at pubs, cafes and restaurants as often as I like. I haven’t yet been to the cinema but would like to.

RatherBeRiding · 10/12/2020 11:36

I've been working as normal throughout, going to supermarkets, animal feed shops (for horse feed), take-away shops, local shops, petrol stations, you name it. And no I've not caught it. Also eaten out a couple of times and attended a wedding.

YouKilledOinker · 10/12/2020 11:38

Yep. I go into shops most days, get a bus to and from work, mix with a mixture of construction workers and students when I’m at work and frequented pubs and restaurants quite a bit (until I couldn’t as we’re tier 3).
Most of my friends were the same.
I only know a couple of people who’ve had COVID and none of them are local to me.

lazylockdowner · 10/12/2020 11:40

I visit supermarket at least twice a week, 3 children in school, attend a child's after school activity daily and work in two primary schools and My oldest daughter works in a gym club and has over 150 different children in daily and we haven't had it nor have any of the above settings to date

georgedawes · 10/12/2020 11:40

I wish people wouldn't say as fact things like only 0.22% of the population have had covid without providing evidence. It's completely misleading. And it wasn't in November as a whole either as your later post says, it was a weekly estimate, which was a lot higher than that.

It's pretty misleading to say the least.

kittedapple · 10/12/2020 11:41

We've been going out to indoor venues since we've been allowed - not shops but toddler classes, museums, galleries, theme parks, soft play, zoos (with indoor bits), restaurants, holidays, theatre, using tube/buses, plus DD is in nursery 3 days. Not pubs/bars though. Always wear a mask wherever it's legally required (but not in the outdoor bits of the zoo etc). We've never had to have a test, never had any of the main symptoms. DD has had a blocked nose once or twice, but never a fever.

I suspect that DH might have got it mildly back in March (mild cold, lost sense of smell and hearing in one ear), but we weren't able to test back then. I'd guess that the rest of the family probably had it at the same time, but never had symptoms.

I’ve not had it. Worked all through both lockdowns, had my daughter in misery from 1st June till starting school in September, shopped, swam, LEGOLAND, beaches, restaurants, etc. Even had a holiday to Crete. Also in tier 3 so a supposedly high risk area.

Bubblemonkey · 10/12/2020 12:11

T+T seems to flag more when I’ve been shopping than it does in the gym 😩

PurpleDaisies · 10/12/2020 12:14

I’m in a tier three area. I’m shopping mainly for food once or twice a week. Everyone is wearing masks. People are generally being sensible.
No covid for me yet.

JorisBonson · 10/12/2020 12:18

I've been working and commuting on public transport as well as going to supermarkets from day 1. Have been in pubs, restaurants etc when allowed. Haven't got it.

SmileyClare · 10/12/2020 12:23

Yeah alright George I'll admit I was talking shit with my statistics. Blush I said I quoted that incorrectly.

I was trying to point out that although going out shopping a couple of times a week or visiting a restaurant would increase your risk of catching CV, that risk is still very low. Particularly if you and the people around you are complying with the safety measures.

It's important to be rational about going out and about occasionally. There are a worrying amount of posters on here with no health vulnerabilities that are simply frightened to leave their homes because the risk to them in their minds is wildly disproportionate to the actual statistical risk.

Hope I have explained that more clearly than my previous posts. Please ignore anything else I've written. Confused

Bluesheep8 · 10/12/2020 12:24

How many people have had it/Have got it asymptomatically though? That's the question.

underneaththeash · 10/12/2020 12:27

I've been in shops all the way through when they've been open, only wore a mask when I had to and never gloves (although I wear PPE at work). I have 3 children at 3 different schools too. Been to cinemas, zoos, restaurants etc.

I've not caught it, I've had an antibody test too.

wildbarnet · 10/12/2020 12:30

Me

RayOfSunshine2013 · 10/12/2020 12:35

Never worn a mask other than at work (HCP) never followed any ‘restrictions’ - as in if a shop was open and i wanted to go i went, which obviously included hundreds of trips to B+M. Ive not died yet, and I don't think I've had Covid - but I've never been tested because apparently if you don't get tested you don't have it Grin

Chessie678 · 10/12/2020 12:41

I’ve done whatever I’ve been allowed to including meeting people indoors when allowed, going to cafes, shops, soft play, baby groups etc. I haven’t had it to my knowledge and nor have any of my household or friends taking a similar approach. I’m doubtful that the transmission risk from wandering past someone in a shop is very high. I always took the view that I’d probably get it eventually though and I’m pretty sure DS will get it at some point during childhood whatever I do so I wasn’t going to put my life on hold any more than necessary.

If the fatality rate is about 0.5% this would suggest that about 12m people have had it so around 1 in 6.

LadyR77 · 10/12/2020 12:57

Yes, I've been to the supermarket frequently throughout the year, my son is in Year 3 at primary school and I have been back working at my office every day since schools went back in September. DH works nights as a delivery driver. We've also been to a couple of theme parks and restaurants. We do wear masks and take precautions around hand hygiene and social distancing etc. None of the 3 of us have had it, unless of course we were totally asymptomatic.
