Bad news for anyone who was hoping to get away next year :(

@Zilla1 as funny as your interpretation is, it's starting to be pretty close to my view of the British politicians (and brexiteers). The entitlement is astonishing.

(I'm not British, but from EU. You really aren't doing yourselves any favors seen from here).

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/12/2020 16:11

About Spain ... I thought the second wave was largely in holiday areas? At least, a lot of it was Catalonia, which is certainly a big tourist magnet

According to the FT though, for once it wasn't the Brits' fault but started among migrant workers who'd come to help with the harvest

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 16:15

@giantangryrooster, please don't think of it as entitlement though I can see that's how it appears. I think it's something else though am probably wrong, I usually am.

I worry that the populace will get something approaching what we collectively deserve (and the politicians won't get what they deserve). The driving forces behind it all have probably achieved what they wanted.

Sunny uplands to come?

theThreeofWeevils · 10/12/2020 16:16

UK brexit voters = 52%. UK % of population are female = 52% probably
And while we're at it, what about the correlation between having voted Leave and risk of dying of Covid? This has been subject to a massive MSM cover-up, but the FACTS are clear.

History will not be kind to Cameron, May and Johnson.

IcedPurple · 10/12/2020 16:17

Not really. There were major outbreaks in Aragon, Galicia and the Madrid region, not so much on the costas.

At least, a lot of it was Catalonia, which is certainly a big tourist magnet

It's also home to a metropolitan area of about 5 million people, so the number of tourists - especially this year - would be pretty small, relatively speaking.

Perhaps that's Brexit? The Brexiters will get what they deserve, sovereignty and fish. The Captain Hindsights will benefit from the sovereignty and fish they didn't even vote for. But Brexit Britain will be generous and share the sovereignty and fish with the 48%.

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 16:21

@theThreeofWeevils, glad you noticed. I think Boris' sexual charisma led to every woman in the UK voting for Brexit then pretending they didn't so they didn't get into trouble with their jealous DPs (heteronormative, I know). Or forgetting what they did like a ONS with Boris, only to be reminded of the deed 9 months (or several years) later.

I hate fish. And as an EU citizen living here I am going to protest to this whole nonsense by not buying any fish!
Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 16:23

I'm disappointed the first child born after Brexit on 31/01/2020, the first free, sovereign child, wasn't named Brexit. Or fish.

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 16:25

@TheSunIsStillShining, please buy the fish. The fish caught in the UK tends not to be cod or haddock so someone from the EU needs to buy it. Over time, we'll train the right fish to jump into UK fishing nets and deport the wrong sort of fish but that might not work straight away. But think of the new job opportunities for fish trainers. Fish wranglers.

But you've got me worried with the ONS thing. Feel tawdry and sullied. But then I feel that every time I look at the government anyway.

@Zilla1 Grin I salute you! Grin

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 16:29

@theThreeofWeevils, but history (re-)written by the (Brexit) winners will judge Boris kindly. He honoured the referendum, renamed 'no deal' Australian deal, Protected the Union (northern Ireland!). Protected the Union (Scotland, unless the SNP have another referendum). Boris, name just one promise he didn't keep.

VerlynWebbe · 10/12/2020 16:30

It’s a better idea for us all to close our borders - including EU member states - to stop the holiday transmission that demonstrably occurred all summer. Travelling around just pushes the end point further away. So does Christmas travel. Prolonging the economic pain. It’s a real fucker of a situation. I’m 100% ok with this particular EU rule coming into force as part of Brexit. The rest of Brexit, not quite so much 😭

TheSunIsStillShining · 10/12/2020 16:30

@Zilla1
:)

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 16:30

See, not a single Captain Hindsight could name a promise Boris made and didn't keep. No replies to my previous post. Not one.

theThreeofWeevils · 10/12/2020 16:34

Protected the Union
The NI Unionists seem to disagree with you there (it's what they do...)

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 16:34

Just goes to show, moaning Minnies to the left and the right but when they are put on the spot and asked to provide evidence about Boris breaking any promises.... Nothing to add.

HilaryThorpe · 10/12/2020 16:37

Zilla I remember when the UK joined the Common Market there was a competition to name the first baby. It think in the end it was something boring like Michelle, but my favourite was Eurosprog. 😊

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 16:40

@HilaryThorpe, good call. And don't forget, if only they'd kept it as an economic common market instead of all this politics.

Well, quite. Arguably the best time would have been about 10-11 months ago. Second best time would seem to be now.

Sadly my best chance of getting home to see my family depends on the UK doing something sensible to get to that end point. I could be waiting a long time.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/12/2020 16:45

Boris, name just one promise he didn't keep

If the subject's Covid, wouldn't it be easier to name a promise he HAS kept? Hmm

As for "sexual charisma", I'll have you know I've been hugged by this man (was with a friend who knows him and all I expected was a handshake ...) and it's not an incident I've any wish to repeat

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/12/2020 16:46

No need to limit the subject to just Covid.
