Can you eat at a restaurant in another tier?

I can’t find an answer to this online. If for example, you live in a tier 3 area, could you eat out in a tier 2 area.
I know travel from tier to tier unless travelling through, is strongly discouraged, but from what I’ve read, not banned entirely. So, is eating out in another tier discouraged or banned?

You follow the rules of your tier so if eating i. Restaurants is banned in tier 3 you can’t eat in one in a another tier.

Ginogineli · 26/11/2020 17:39

You can’t but people will

I’ve alteady booked 3 nights out with friends - outdoor rule of 6 eating in tier 2 and we all live tier 3. But I work in tier 2 so 🤷‍♀️

3littlewords · 26/11/2020 17:50

I live on the border of 2 boroughs previous to lockdown I was tier 3 neighbouring borough was tier 2 we had a few meals out in the tier 2 area which is literally about 10/15 minutes away from home.

Mammaaof · 26/11/2020 17:53

No.

Sweettea1 · 26/11/2020 18:00

No your higher risk don't go putting lower tiers at risk 🤔 don't get whats so hard to understand about that if we could do that then we might aswell not have tiers.

EatDessertFirst · 26/11/2020 18:04

No. Follow the rules of your tier. Its not difficult to understand. All this 'I can break the rules because I am special and they don't apply to me' is one of the reasons this fucker is spreading!

Frazzled2207 · 26/11/2020 18:04

Not supposed to but I previously did it. The restaurants don’t care.

FWIW my area is tier 3 but a mile away is higher cases yet tier 2.

Vanillaradio · 26/11/2020 18:06

I think you technically can but it is not advised. As far as I can work out you are advised not to travel to a tier 2 or 1 area from tier 3 but you legally can. Tier 3 guidelines say you can go to businesses that are open- they are open in tier 2. The guidelines in tier 3 do not ban you from going to a restaurant but ban restaurants from opening.

Ginogineli · 26/11/2020 18:08

You can go on a foreign holiday even in tier 3 so why on earth wouldn’t you go for a meal!

Davespecifico · 26/11/2020 18:10

EatDessertFirst - I was asking about distinctions between rules and recommendations. I don’t yet know if there is a rule about eating out in another tier. If there isn’t, I won’t be breaking any rules by eating out in another tier.

OP posts:
Ginogineli · 26/11/2020 18:11

There are no legal restrictions on movement between tiers or abroad

HopeAndDriftWood · 26/11/2020 18:13

This is why we are allegedly in Tier 3... people eating out here last time from a nearby tier 3 city, when we were tier 1.

I think you’re only allowed to travel outside of a tier 3 area for work, education etc, and then have to behave as if you are still in tier 3, so no eating out... god knows if it’ll be enforced, or how, but I don’t think it’s allowed or everyone would do that instead.

RegularHumanBartender · 26/11/2020 18:15

The government website says "you can continue to travel to venues or amenities which are open".

PicsInRed · 26/11/2020 18:15

What if I'm far from home and need to test my sitting bum? Can I just go to a cafe and sit down, really test out the sitting, maybe grab a coffee and a sandwich, until I'm satisfied that my bum sits well enough to continue sitting safely elsewhere? Never fear, I'll use my own best personal judgement. That's what we're meant to do, right? Use our own common sense.

I'm off to "test the sitting".👍

RegularHumanBartender · 26/11/2020 18:15

Exactly.

chunkyrun · 26/11/2020 18:17

You can go on a foreign holiday even in tier 3 so why on earth wouldn’t you go for a meal!

^^ we will be, my friend had cancer last year for her birthday. This year she has the all clear so off we got to a tier 2

OverTheRainbow88 · 26/11/2020 18:18

Can you go on holiday to your holiday come in England In a lesser tier? So tier 3 going on holiday to tier 2?

AdventureIsWaiting · 26/11/2020 18:19

You can't but people will. We are a semi-rural area with some of the lowest rates in the country, but they escalated rapidly before lockdown #2. Guess what? We border two much higher-rated locations and our pubs, shops and leisure areas were crammed with people travelling out of them (my own family did it Angry).

Now we're in Tier 3 when we were in Tier 1 before lockdown. It's selfish.

DerbyshireMama · 26/11/2020 18:20

Fuck it I'm going to.

OverTheRainbow88 · 26/11/2020 18:20

@AdventureIsWaiting

We had the same but uni students

isitsnowingyet · 26/11/2020 18:21

I’m considering this too. We live on the border of a tier 2 county - I go to work every day in tier 2 but my house is in tier 3 . Yeah - I can why people do this

knittingaddict · 26/11/2020 18:22

@RegularHumanBartender

The government website says "you can continue to travel to venues or amenities which are open".
It also says this:

avoid travelling to other parts of the UK, including for overnight stays other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities. You can travel through other areas as part of a longer journey

Not helpful to pick and choose what bits you like about the guidelines.

the80sweregreat · 26/11/2020 18:23

I'm tier 2. Pub sent me a email to say you cannot book a table unless it is just people from your own home.

FatGirlShrinking · 26/11/2020 18:25

It says:

avoid travelling to other parts of the UK, including for overnight stays other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities. You can travel through other areas as part of a longer journey

The bit about being able to travel to a entities that are open is referring to the amenities that are allowed to be open in your tier, because if you couldn't travel to those there would be no point in them being open.

Ginogineli · 26/11/2020 18:25

It also says avoid

There are not and never have been any legal rules on travel in tiers

It’s all advice
