Can you eat at a restaurant in another tier?

I can’t find an answer to this online. If for example, you live in a tier 3 area, could you eat out in a tier 2 area.
I know travel from tier to tier unless travelling through, is strongly discouraged, but from what I’ve read, not banned entirely. So, is eating out in another tier discouraged or banned?

OP posts:

Legally you can, but you’re advised not to. Doing so is hardly in the spirit of what we’re trying to achieve, but so many seem to not be willing to consider that.

Personally I’d choose to try to support a business in my local area through takeaway or similar if possible, in the hope it helps them still be there once we are last this.

Grooticle · 26/11/2020 19:52

You can.

But you shouldn’t.

PicsInRed · 26/11/2020 19:57

I think if London (i.e. Westminster) was in tier 3, people would be less willing to go "fuck it, just do what you want".

Politicians tell us we can't sit in a restaurant for lunch, but they can, as they're only tier 2. How convenient.

Meanwhile, in tier 3 we can still non essentially drive to non essentially shop at the mall, and mooch about a crowded John Lewis ... but only with a takeaway coffee. Fucking mental nonsense and they can piss off with it.

crossstitchingnana · 26/11/2020 21:17

@Ginogineli

You can go on a foreign holiday even in tier 3 so why on earth wouldn’t you go for a meal!
THIS attitude really, really fucks me off. You do what you are supposed to do. It is NOT about seeing what you can fucking get away with. 😡😡😡
crossstitchingnana · 26/11/2020 21:19

I am in a tier 1 area. We all know that we will now be flooded with second homers and tourists from tier 2 next door. Then, guess what? We go up a tier. It is infuriating. STAY IN YOUR TIER AND SUCK IT UP!

luckylavender · 26/11/2020 21:21

@Ginogineli - You can't but people will. You mean you will.

Lifeispassingby · 26/11/2020 21:21

@HostessTrolley I am also in Kent, living between the 2 highest areas, working in one of them. My understanding is that although some Kent areas have a low infection rate all areas are seeing rapid increases hence the need for high restrictions?

HostessTrolley · 26/11/2020 21:31

@Lifeispassingby if that’s the case then so be it, but high restrictions shouldn’t involve browsing Poundland and being able to get my bikini wax done. I don’t begrudge these businesses a living at all, I run a small business, but they either want us to lock down or stay at home or they don’t... the measures don’t make sense. And the uni students will all be home soon too.

No you can't you're not allowed to travel if you are in Tier 3 or 4 in Scotland.
ScubaSteven · 26/11/2020 21:54

And this is why this is never going to go away...

Storyofcats · 26/11/2020 22:01

@Waxonwaxoff0

I think it's a bit of a shit thing to do from a moral point of view. But not illegal. I'm in tier 3 and I won't be doing this, unfair to potentially spread it about. I'd rather try and get numbers down so we get out of tier 3 quicker!
Legally you can but its definitely not in the spirit of the rules and just prolongs the whole thing for everyone. I really want to go to the pub, we were in tier 3 then in lockdown and now back in tier 3 but I wont cos it just doesnt feel like the right thing to do.
Cherrysherbet · 26/11/2020 22:05

Fuck it I'm going to

This is why we’re going to suffer in the new year.

WanderingMilly · 26/11/2020 22:08

The whole thing is bloody bonkers.
I have to cross a 'border' from a high Tier to a lower one because I go to work. The workplace have booked their Christmas lunch already and will be going... I would dearly love to get out of it by citing the fact that I'm technically a Tier 3 eating out in a Tier 2 but apparently they won't accept that.
But I still can't see my family indoors. How bloody stupid.

DappledOliveGroves · 26/11/2020 22:20

Yes you can OP. We're tier 3 and happy to travel to tier 2 for dinner out. It's not illegal, there is fuck all logic to any of this and it's a VIRUS which doesn't listen to government advice or guidelines.

southeastdweller · 26/11/2020 22:25

Enjoy yourself when you go - the government is a joke and their stupid advice. I'll be doing similar to you soon and I can't bloody wait.

southeastdweller · 26/11/2020 22:27

We'll be suffering in the new year regardless of whether OP goes to a tier 2 area, or thousands of people do. Or did you think restrictions were going to magically life on January 1st?
Tyranttoddler · 26/11/2020 22:29

The tiers are pretty bullshit to be fair. 10 min drive up the road is tier 2. I am in tier 3 but numbers in my city are some of the lowest in the country. But I can't go out for lunch. 🤷‍♀️ So bored now!

knackersknockersknickers · 26/11/2020 22:31

I will be. We live on the edge and we've had covid so very low risk.

Bemoreme21 · 26/11/2020 22:32

Can you eat out at a restaurant with your support bubble if you are both Tier 2?

ceeveebee · 26/11/2020 22:39

I’m in a tier 3 area but the rates in our borough are a lot lower than the national average, and lower than the bordering tier 2 borough so yes I will be going to tier 2 to eat in a sensible socially distanced way with my own household. If they want compliance with their guidance then they need to make the restrictions fair and locally targeted which is what they said they were going to do, not apply a broadbrush approach and punish one area of a county for high rates in boroughs which are nowhere near us .

Is it outdoors? As tier 2 only allows households to eat together inside?

Yep - the same people who think they are special and will do what they like will also be the ones who complain that the restrictions drag on. Funny that
kittenpeak · 26/11/2020 22:50

No. You have to behave as if you are always in your tier. If you live in tier 3, you behave like you're in tier 3 whether you're visiting tier 2 or 1.
So if you are live in tier 3 and decide to visit family in Cornwall, you can't join them for a pub lunch

kittenpeak · 26/11/2020 22:52

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

We live in Tier 3 area 'A'. We have tickets for an event in neighbouring Tier3 area B. Event is being permitted to proceed. Can we attend?
Some venues in london (tier 2, where I am) are allowing people to cancel but only if they live in tier 3 (proof of address needed). I'm sure they will as they can't be encouraging people to travel (also you will be breaking government rules attending an indoor venue as a tier 3 person)
MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 26/11/2020 22:54

What is the point of tiers at all, if people are going to travel out of them for non essential reasons? Tiers exist in order to limit spread - just because it's not expressly forbidden, that doesn't make it okay.
