Sat crying. This isn’t ending or getting better

So sick of this. Back into tier 3. We have followed all the rules. No one in the house since March. I can’t do this all winter. I have two small children and I’m going insane with no family help. People say it’s going to get better but it isn’t. Or it’s months and months away. I can’t stop crying I just want to see my family.

Every other country in the world has defeated it.

At a guess, I'd say you don't keep up with the News.

Nicknacky · 26/11/2020 16:51

And ironically I posted straight after one of those types of posters I was talking about!

MrsExpo · 26/11/2020 16:54

We're another area now in Tier 3 (we were 2 before) so pretty fed up. But it is improving. Infection rates are levelling off - and falling in my area thank goodness - we just need to keep at it and it will get better.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 26/11/2020 16:55

@amicissimma

Please, if you value the NHS, don't vote Tory!

Minimal improvement between 1997 and 2010, but a lot more debt (PFI).

Don't vote Labour either.

Who then?

What? Minimal improvement? Life expectancy grew 3 years under labour between 2000-2010. The same timespan under the Tories (2010-2020) saw a measly 1.5 year gain.

And labour only increased spending to be in line with EU averages. Hardly a big overspend! We just chronically underfunded the NHS. It's worst under the Tories who leave in on its knees and then labour looks profligate because they have to fix the mess.

In 1997, 283 866 people had waited 6 months or more for operations.1 By 2006 there were only 199.
In 2003 75% of patients were seen within four hours in accident and emergency departments; in 2006 it was 95%
There were 20 000 more consultants and general practitioners, 70 000 more nurses, 118 new hospitals, and 188 new general practice clinics.

HelloMissus · 26/11/2020 16:57

In WW2 the looting was a problem. As was the black market. And they didn’t introduce air raid wardens for shits and giggles.

Originally it was illegal to shelter in the tube stations and the government ordered them closed. But people broke in.

Arthersleep · 26/11/2020 17:00

Actually, it IS getting better!
You can still
1/ meet with up to 6 outdoors in a public open space
2/ go shopping
3/ get your haircut
4/ go to the gym or swimming (as long as not in a exercise class)
5/ go for a walk/drive and have a take out coffee/slice of cake or a meal
6/ participate in outdoor organised sports (golf/horse riding/cycling with friends/football etc)
7/ go to National trust/historical outdoor gardens/attractions
8/ go to zoos, safari parks and other outdoor attractions.

All of this is a big improvement upon the current lockdown. And it's strict because there will be a five day reprieve at Christmas!

The only change from a few weeks ago (for some) is that you cannot go to restaurants/cafes/pubs/the cinema or meet up in homes or gardens in a group of up to 6. But the latter applies to those in Tier Two too, which is 99% of the country.

We know a lot more about the virus now and vaccination schemes are imminent. So it's just a case of getting through Dec, Jan and February with restrictions, but without a major lockdown. Then we will be into Spring/Summer and things will have improved. I can only imagine how my grandparents coped during the war though. Now that must have been hideous by contrast, so I try to remember that too!

Seriouslymole · 26/11/2020 17:01

@PatriciaPerch

this is just so they can all say see you next Tuesday at the end of their meetings
That is the only thing that has made me laugh all day. Thank you :)

Totally done with the whole mess.

Benjispruce2 · 26/11/2020 17:08

Sending hugs. It’s shit. So grateful to be tier 2. DD at uni in tier 3 and feels much like you. But, it’s going to be so much better soon. Just as the weather improves hopefully we’ll all have a great spring/summer like no other. Be kind to yourself. You can and will get through it.

Mydogmylife · 26/11/2020 17:11

@Scottishgirl85

It is hard. But I'm not sure why anyone thought this was going to be over quickly. Imo a vaccine was always going to be the way out. It will be over, just not quite yet. Keep going Flowers
Agreed-, I'm in Scottish level 4 ( no shops, hairdressers, nowt) so just plodding on as best we can
Arthersleep · 26/11/2020 17:13

@Hardbackwriter

the thought of having to feed another duck makes me want to go on some sort of duck-hunt massacre..

Well, you should be able to do that with friends if it is an organised outdoor sport. You wouldn't be restricted to just 6 then either!

Happychristmashohoho · 26/11/2020 17:14

I feel your pain, but it will end soon! We are nearly through it!

We are tier 2 and it isn’t much different to tier 3. We can’t have anyone inside the house or socialise with non household. We’re not going to have people in the garden in this weather.... and I couldn’t feel less like going to a pub!

User158340 · 26/11/2020 17:25

@Chloemol

So I get it, I really do, but what’s the answer then? Do we just open everything up and see the nhs fail? Do we watch loved ones catch it and die?

Yes some of us follow the rules, but come on, just look at MN and the number who don’t

I was reading on one of the posts the poster has no intention of following the 3 bubble rule at Christmas they are doing what they want

One thing this pandemic has shown is how selfish people are

People go on about Sweden but if people could be relied upon to be sensible in this country we could open a lot more than we have. As a society we've only got ourselves to blame for this mess.
ancientgran · 26/11/2020 17:25

the thought of having to feed another duck makes me want to go on some sort of duck-hunt massacre. Duck instead of turkey this year?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 26/11/2020 17:27

Rather than blaming people who want to interact like normal human beings, how about blaming a government who thinks it's ok that we have one of the lowest ITU beds per head of population in Europe? Who have literally handed over funds to their mates as jobs or contracts? Who encouraged zero hours contracts and have families living in poverty who feel they can't afford to self isolate if needed

I agree re UTI beds abut zero hour contracts have their place and suit many people. It’s also not on the government re personal finances of a household.

Yes it’s not all on rule breakers as the virus is doing what it’s meant to do and spreading, it just has more opportunity to do so when people break rules and have close contact.

Most countries are facing this, it’s more hopeful now we have vaccines coming but we may see a third peek with the mass mixing at Christmas and then everyone going back into work and school.

Gwenhwyfar · 26/11/2020 17:27

@Funkypolar

I don’t understand the “don’t kill granny” passive aggression. Lots of people don’t even have a granny to kill. Nor does it make the OP feel any better.
Yep and I doubt anyone is forcing their granny to see them. it would be a mutual decision surely?
Gwenhwyfar · 26/11/2020 17:31

I'm not in the UK and I can't do any of those things, except no.5 which I will not be doing once it gets colder and is only just about bearable for me now. Maybe i can do 7 too, not sure as it doesn't interest me...

User158340 · 26/11/2020 17:32

We've just been told this week we can have a 5 day amnesty next month. isn't that something to celebrate for those who want to mix with other households?

WeCanFlyHigher · 26/11/2020 17:44

@User158340

I was in tier 1 pre lockdown which meant I could mix households (ie see my dad) indoors. Our case numbers have halved in lockdown, yet we’re now tier 3, so I can’t see my dad. Forgive me if I’m not ‘celebrating’ being able to see him at Christmas.
Chloemol · 26/11/2020 17:46

@TeddyIsaHe

To clarify as my post obviously wasn’t clear to you I am NOT saying people wanting to see families are being selfish

I am saying those that don’t follow the rules, be it meeting up inside, outside, not wearing masks because they don’t want to, going to pubs and not SD etc etc ( and yes the MN crew who use ‘common sense’ to evade the rules) are the selfish ones

Clear enough now?

Chloemol · 26/11/2020 17:47

@WeCanFlyHigher

It’s not just based on numbers anyone. There are a number of cret Erika they are basing tiers on

Chloemol · 26/11/2020 17:48

Criteria

I’m aware of that. Apparently in our area it’s due to the fact that infections in the over 60’s are rising. Except the data shows they’ve been dropping in the over 60’s for the past 10 days.
And regardless of the criteria, it’s still shit.

goose1964 · 26/11/2020 18:04

I've not met friends since last December , why? Because I stay with my Dad whose at risk. They live in Wales and I'm in England so it's not been easy to work out when and how to visit. I don't have friends locally. The only people I've visited is may daughter and her family. Even though we're in tier 3 I'm looking forward to meeting up with them and going for a walk on the beach. We're waiting for the vaccine so I can go and see them .

It's shit being stuck in but the end is in sight

Crumbleweed · 26/11/2020 18:05

Tier 1 to tier 3 here. And a child sent home from school as bubble infected. Loving life.

LadyFelsham · 26/11/2020 18:11
@LadyFelsham are you for real?

“Every other country has defeated it” have they?? Every other western nation save for the Antipodes are similarly increasing restrictions because of the increasing incidence of CV19

“WW2 fades into nothing....” - not sure the last time I saw whole streets flattened by bombs, children being evacuated to live with strangers, food being rationed and all able bodied men being conscripted to fight in hand to hand combat across the world but hey, it’s a view
No, of course my post isn't for real.

I'm highlighting what some posters on this and other threads are saying and only slightly exaggerating it.

I did it when I read someone telling someone off for saying it was worse in WW2, a thought which struck me as insular and silly. After all, we're not living in fear of bombs falling on her houses, our children aren't being shipped off to unknown destinations as evacuees, we aren't eating rats and we're not living with the fear of the Nazis invading and taking over.

So, it makes me roll my eyes to hear people declaring that their teenagers have had it worse than anywhere any and that the Tory goverment is responsible for the pandemic which almost the rest of the world is struggling with.

That latter is just the old refrain of, if anything goes wrong-blame the Tories. It loses its power when you blame them for everything, including a pandemic!

So, no my post wasn't for real. It was a gentle bit of fun poking at those who do hold those views.

OP. I've been on earlier and told you to hold on-things will get better and this will all just be a distant nightmare. The world will pull through.
