Child now isolating...I'm scared

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 25/11/2020 14:10

My child has been sent home today. Whole class have to isolate for 14 days as close contact of someone who has tested positive.

My child has no symptoms yet but both me and OH are CV.

I also have health anxiety which has been under control but I can feel the anxiety building.

I didn't want to send him back in September I wanted parents to have the choice. Deregistering wasn't an option.

Has anyone's child had to isolate but not caught covid?

I've not yet been in this position but I have friends who have been and their children have been fine

ineedaholidaynow · 25/11/2020 14:13

How old is your DC?

Angel2702 · 25/11/2020 14:13

Out of all the cases sent home home to isolate I only know of one child who has developed symptoms as a result.

pickleface · 25/11/2020 14:14

Both my daughters have been sent home 3 times since September Obviously meaning very little time at school but that time did involve close contact. One was absolutely fine and the other had Covid with very mild symptoms but she sat directly next to the boy who was known to have it.

dementedpixie · 25/11/2020 14:14

My ds isolated and got no symptoms. Didnt hear of any of the other isolators getting it either

Ginnymweasley · 25/11/2020 14:14

My nephew has just finished his 14 day isolation after spending the weekend with his dad who then tested positive on the monday. He has been fine. No symptoms at all. Mainly just bored. And he spent 2 days in a small flat with his dad so was in close contact.

LittleMissNaice · 25/11/2020 14:14

Yes DS had to isolate and was fine - as were the rest of his class. Several bubbles at his school have had to isolate since September and I'm not aware of any cases where an isolating child has then shown symptoms.

For context it was DSs teacher who had the positive result and they had been in close contact with every child in the class.

WeCanFlyHigher · 25/11/2020 14:15

3 classes at our school have isolated so far and no one else developed symptoms in either class.

WeCanFlyHigher · 25/11/2020 14:15

Sorry that should have said 2

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 25/11/2020 14:15

Even if your child catches it, they will be fine. They highly likely won't be sick much at all or something similar to sickness you've dealt with fine in the past.

You're gonna be fine OP and so is your child.

Seriouslymole · 25/11/2020 14:17

If you didn’t want to send your child in, why is deregistering not an option.

FWIW I know of not one single child who has been isolated (at least 5 bubbles) that have gone on to get symptoms.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 25/11/2020 14:17

Lots of posters have! Many threads already.

How old is DS?

If he's a teenager then get him to stay in his room as much as possible (shouldn't be a hardship) put meals outside his door. Keep separate set of stuff for his meals -wash carefully.

Mask outside his bedroom.

Separate bathroom or clean well after use - additional wipes of door handles/taos/toilet flush etc. No sharing of hand towels (or any towels) etc.

If he's younger then not so easy but try to mask & distance/ventilate the rooms as best you can.

Take care, but try not to panic, lots of people haven't got it from others in the house.

Our school has had 5 confirmed cases since sept (my DD bubble was one) in all cases not one other child in the bubbles also caught it... and in my DDs case the child was a twin and neither the other twin or the parents caught it they all tested negative, try not to worry

Teenager isolating. Initial symptomatic child tested positive, close contact group day 3 - 4 tested positive/4 negative (so far)

Private school using private testing scheme.

I imagine like many other parents in the same position, it's a good over subscribed school that they'll want to return to when the virus is under better control/vaccinations have been had etc.
Emmacb82 · 25/11/2020 14:25

My son is day 12 of 14 quarantine and no symptoms yet (could be asymptomatic but no way to know) Try not to worry, they have to send the entire class home but it’s more likely that majority of the class will be fine.

ComDummings · 25/11/2020 14:26

DD sent home to isolate 2 weeks ago(ish), none of the other children have had symptoms and all back in school fit and well. I’m sure that’s the case for thousands and thousands of children.

ComDummings · 25/11/2020 14:27

Also it was a child that had COVID in the bubble, they’re very young and therefore don’t social distance and it doesn’t seem to have spread.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 25/11/2020 15:57

Thank you for your responses.

Child is 8. Can't distance from him much without upsetting him.

Couldn't de register as both me and OH work. Currently working from home but will be back in the office at some point, didn't want to lose his place, risk moving him to another school when this is over. He doesn't have many friends and doesn't make them easily. Its taken 4 years for him to get the few friends he has now. Its a good school. And my OH didn't agree! Plenty of reasons why it wasn't an option.

I'm glad to hear of other children having to isolate and not having caught it

I'm CV. My kids isolated and not got it. I've isolated as my job share had it and I didn't get it.

badlydrawnbear · 25/11/2020 16:02

My DC1 isolated as a contact at school in September. She didn't get covid, and I know that because she did get a cough so she got tested. She is 9. DC2 is currently at home for 2 weeks along with the entire ks1 at their school. I also have several colleagues who have had DC isolating due to contact with covid at school. None of these DC have become symptomatic, so as far as their parents know didn't catch it, these were a mix of primary and secondary school age.

PragmaticWench · 25/11/2020 16:05

My daughter tested positive and the rest of us in the house didn't get it. We did nothing different to usual as I couldn't care less if I get it or not.

Vanannabananna · 25/11/2020 16:06

My 2 year old had it. None of the rest of us caught it.

Itsagrandoldteam · 25/11/2020 16:11

My son sat right next to a lad, who later tested positive, for 4 hours but he didn't catch it. So hopefully your son hasn't picked up the virus.

CoolShoeshine · 25/11/2020 16:14

My teen dc has been in close contact with 4 others who’ve had it (sitting next to them in lessons) and she’s fine so far. Fingers crossed and touch wood.
