Child now isolating...I'm scared

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 25/11/2020 14:10

My child has been sent home today. Whole class have to isolate for 14 days as close contact of someone who has tested positive.

My child has no symptoms yet but both me and OH are CV.

I also have health anxiety which has been under control but I can feel the anxiety building.

I didn't want to send him back in September I wanted parents to have the choice. Deregistering wasn't an option.

Has anyone's child had to isolate but not caught covid?

@PragmaticWench

My daughter tested positive and the rest of us in the house didn't get it. We did nothing different to usual as I couldn't care less if I get it or not.
Why on earth could you not care less if you got it or not? Confused

Yes, my dd, 2 of my nieces & my nephew have had to isolate since the return to schools/nursery and none of the 4 of them developed symptoms

TempsPerdu · 25/11/2020 19:37

Yes but with nursery not school - staff member with close contact tested positive with mild symptoms, whole nursery bubble isolated, no other children or family members tested positive or developed any obvious symptoms whatsoever.

In fact, of all the many children I know who have had to self isolate due to a confirmed positive case at a school or nursery I’m unaware of anyone who has gone on to develop symptoms.

Hi OP. I get it, my DS has been isolating now for almost 2 weeks and when we first got the call I had a little panic as I am CEV. But he's been fine, no symptoms whatsoever - and he was sitting fairly close the the student with covid. Hope that's of some reassurance.Flowers

BecomeStronger · 25/11/2020 19:40

That vast majority of children who've had to isolate have never become ill. We currently have 16 staff and 30+ children isolating because of 2 seperate cases in staff. They've only 2 more days to go but so far, no more with any symptoms.

RoseMartha · 25/11/2020 19:42

I know a family where child had to isolate. Someone else then in their household got it, child still did not get it.

duckme · 25/11/2020 19:43

My daughter has had to isolate three times since September. Twice due to being close contact (she never developed it as a result) and once when she and my husband tested positive (there are 5 of us in the house and only my daughter and husband had it, no one else developed it).

meganevie0406 · 25/11/2020 19:45

We are in the same boat, my daughters whole year & most of the years are of due to having close contact with a teacher who tested positive ☹️. It's very worrying

Missushbb · 25/11/2020 19:50

Sorry what does cv mean?

Missushbb · 25/11/2020 19:51

Ignore I see it's been answered in the thread

Backbee · 25/11/2020 19:53

The vast vast majority of children who have had to isolate and have not gone on to test positive. I'm sure it'll be fine OP Flowers

HmmSureJan · 25/11/2020 19:56

Has anyone's child had to isolate but not caught covid?

Yes, twice. Try not to worry, in all likelihood it will be fine Smile

ShowOfHands · 25/11/2020 19:57

My dc both had it and I was in very close proximity to them. 9yo DS was in my bed or snuggled up to me for 2 weeks. Neither I nor dh caught it and none of DS's y4 bubble caught it either.

nicknamehelp · 25/11/2020 20:05

My daughter on 3rd isolation dd cv yes its not ideal but we are just having to get on with it.

LaValliere · 25/11/2020 20:17

Two of my children have had to isolate; neither caught the virus. (In one case, the infected child had carried on coming into school for a week after having the ONS test that revealed infection - the results were delayed.)

Littleposh · 25/11/2020 20:21

Most of the people I know who have been confirmed as covid positive haven't passed it on to their family. My daughter is off now as her whole secondary year has been closed, no one is showing symptoms after a week

PrivateD00r · 25/11/2020 20:32

The vast majority of isolating dc don't become unwell. Remember, it is precautionary, in reality most dc won't have even been near the infected child.

Even if they are, they may well not get it. I know lots of people who have had CV (I work in the NHS, at least 50% of us have had it by now), I haven't heard of any of them spreading it round their whole family.

I had it recently and DH insisted on sleeping in the bed with me (I was very unwell and he was really worried, I had quite a few asthma attacks during it), he didn't get it.

The odds are very much in your favour Flowers

Schoolchoicesucks · 25/11/2020 20:33

The R rate is just above 1 - so on average each person with covid is passing it onto only 1 other person. Your dc would be unlucky to be the one from the while school bubble, family, other contacts etc.
Stay positive OP but do take precautions such as ventilating rooms and wiping down surfaces.

OPTIMUMMY · 25/11/2020 21:09

I think only a small number of close contacts actually catch it (I’m not convinced whole classes really are close contacts though- it’s just hard to identify who really is in primary) and then a small number pass it on. I do have friends who caught it from their son who had no symptoms but had been identified as a close contact from school and needed to self-isolate (sat next to positive pupil). This seems to be rare though from reading this thread. I think the odds are stacked in your favour but you are right to be careful. There also seem to be different strains of it, and even if you did catch it you might get the mild version. There are also much better treatment options out there for Covid now as well so try not to worry too much.

Justgivemewine · 25/11/2020 21:37

My sons class has to isolate after one of his best friends had a +ve test. Ds didn’t catch it and afaik no one else in the class caught it either.

OpheliasCrayon · 26/11/2020 07:22

@cretelover I dont care in the slightest if I get it or not. I'm CEV. Not everyone has to feel the same as you do! It honestly doesn't fuss me.
This doesn't mean that I haven't followed rules etc but none of this situation bothers me. Not everyone is the same. I know plenty people, my DH and many friends, who also aren't worried.
I'm not saying other people shouldn't be worried, anyone can feel how they like.

Frazzled2207 · 26/11/2020 09:38

My son has just gone back after his fortnight and nobody else got ill.

Feministicon · 26/11/2020 10:12

Both my older DC have been sent home to isolate, neither of them fell ill.
