Child now isolating...I'm scared

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 25/11/2020 14:10

My child has been sent home today. Whole class have to isolate for 14 days as close contact of someone who has tested positive.

My child has no symptoms yet but both me and OH are CV.

I also have health anxiety which has been under control but I can feel the anxiety building.

I didn't want to send him back in September I wanted parents to have the choice. Deregistering wasn't an option.

Has anyone's child had to isolate but not caught covid?

Yep, my yr 3 DD is just coming to the end of her second isolation since Oct - hasn't had it either times. My yr 7 DD had to isolate last month, also didn't get any symptoms.

My DH is a key worker (not NHS) and has been in work throughout - has never had to isolate or got sick.

My DSis is a key worker (NHS) and has been on COVID wards - also not had it. Her DD (my DN) also yr 7 had some symptoms 2 weeks ago and isolated but tested negative. Symptoms disappeared overnight

My DMs partner had the same thing happen with symptoms appearing and disappearing as quickly - isolated but tested negative.

In fact, going out to colleagues / friends /wider family I know of 3 cases (mild) and at least 15 periods of isolation that have come to nothing.

NotAKaren · 25/11/2020 16:20

Yes twice and didn't develop Covid. There have been quite a few cases at DCs school as from those I know no close contacts have tested positive. Please do not worry.

Beebityboo · 25/11/2020 16:31

Sorry you're going through this OP. I'm CV and have (crippling) health anxiety so I can totally understand what you're going through. What I will say though is we were in this position a few weeks ago now where we were told DD had been in close contact with a positive case 'for several hours'. I was terrified but everything was ok, DD didn't get ill and none of the rest of the household did either.
Deep breaths and try to take it one day at a time. I did deregister her after that, but there were a lot of other reasons for that decision. Luckily neither of my primary aged DC's have had to isolate yet.

My year child 8 has just finished isolation and was sitting next to the child who tested positive and she thank god has been fine. We checked for symptoms and temperature every day. The child was in on the Monday (only one class together) and Tuesday morning the school sent them home. We got an Email about 8.30/9pm about my child not going into school.

As others have said take one day at a time.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 25/11/2020 16:52

Dh is ECV. We had 2 dc isolating. None of us had any symptoms but I was worried too op.

SpnBaby1967 · 25/11/2020 16:58

All 3 of my kids have isolated (2 primary, 1 secondary) and none of them have been sick. My son's teacher caught it and this is why he isolated and none of the kids came down with it.

In fact between the 2 schools there are 2200 students and in total there has been 32 cases. 30 at secondary and 2 teachers in primary.

ThirstyGhost · 25/11/2020 17:01

Can I ask, what is CV? Sorry, I tried to Google and can't find what it means?

ReindeersAreBetterThanHumans · 25/11/2020 17:02

DD’s class (secondary school) has had to isolate twice. Not one child has gone on to develop symptoms in those two periods.

sanityisamyth · 25/11/2020 17:06

My DS was sent home last Monday as a child in his class had tested positive. He's not been past the front door in 10 days but he's had no symptoms and is absolutely fine. Don't worry.

Clinially Vulnerable
Jenasaurus · 25/11/2020 17:09

Clinically not Clinally :)

ineedaholidaynow · 25/11/2020 17:10

CV = clinically vulnerable, ECV/CEV = extremely clinically vulnerable

@ThirstyGhost

ballsdeep · 25/11/2020 17:11

Both my children and I am. No symptoms yet!

ThirstyGhost · 25/11/2020 17:42

Thank you Jenasauru sand ineedaholidaynow :)

DD is currently on Day 9 or 10 of isolation (close school contact on Friday 13th?). No symptoms whatsoever. I know of four other children from various areas that are isolating and not one has developed symptoms.

Mother40 · 25/11/2020 18:12

My daughter had to self isolate after someone in.her class got it. She was fine and I don't know of any other children in the year who caught it.

DarceyDashwood · 25/11/2020 18:22

My son is 5 and had to isolate after a child in his class tested positive. He didn’t develop symptoms and as far as I know neither did anyone else in his class (including teachers). I know numerous other children at other schools who have had to isolate after cases in school and didn’t show symptoms (some more than once!) Try not to worry.

Mol1628 · 25/11/2020 18:32

My sons 5 and 7 have just finished isolating. Their best friends who they play with every day (also brothers) tested positive. We’ve just finished the 14 days with no symptoms whatsoever. These are children that are playing tig, sharing toys, sitting together in class 5 days a week.

Looks like it doesn’t seem to be spreading in classes quite so much based on other replies too?

RaggieDolls · 25/11/2020 18:41

DD is just finishing her second isolation period. Apart from the initially infected child no one else has got sick either time.

Both times I've felt a bit worried for the first few days but I understand the majority of people who go onto catch it have symptoms in the first week. Hopefully you can relax a bit more in the second week?

Daisy829 · 25/11/2020 18:44

Yes, all the children I know who have been sent home in these circumstances have been fine. I also have a friend who was positive and her husband and daughter didn’t catch it. Daughter is young so she did want to cuddle mum occasionally although she was very cautious. Try not to worry.

PeachiceT · 25/11/2020 18:45

DC had isolated twice .. has not caught covid and nor have we . I also work in a primary school as a TA so am in close contact 30 children a day .

MadameBlobby · 25/11/2020 18:50

I saw something the other day which said only something like 4 in 1000 kids who have to isolate get symptoms.

SueEllenMishke · 25/11/2020 19:16

My DS has been isolating ( he can go back to school tomorrow - yey!!) and he's fine. Zero symptoms. In fact, none of the children in his class have had symptoms or tested positive.
The positive case was a TA.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 25/11/2020 19:16

Madame Bobby that is very reassuring thank you.

And thanks to everyone else you've calmed me down

Suzyeve · 25/11/2020 19:21

Yes my child had to and didn't get.. I know lots of other people's children who have had to isolate from various different schools, and none of them have gone on to get it either. X
