To be weary of the vaccines?

Will you be getting it?

Will you be allowing your children to get it?

I'm curious to peoples responses as my social media seems to be full of posts from people mocking those who will get the vaccine.

I'm by no means an anti Vaxer. Myself and my children have had all vaccinations and have the flu jab yearly. My only worry is that not enough is known about the long term side effects.

OP posts:

@Sushirolls

I won't be having it, even if it means resigning from my job( I work in care). I think DH is on the fence, DS1, DD1 & DD2 have all said they won't have it but I think DS2 will have it if offered (early 20's, so will be awhile). My DSis and I have agreed that we will refuse consent for our DM to have it.
Why?
Pukkatea · 21/11/2020 18:35

FYI I absolutely don't blame anybody for being wary of it or thinking it's rushed. Vaccine development and approval isn't a topic that most people have ever needed to know about, and anti vaccine movements are skilled in rhetoric and far more effective at communicating their desired message than scientists.

Peace43 · 21/11/2020 18:35

I work in medicines licensing and I understand what has been rushed and skipped to get this vaccine to market quickly. Nothing relating to safety testing has been compromised. I will get the vaccine and have advised elderly and vulnerable friends and relatives to do the same.

mbosnz · 21/11/2020 18:36

I respect other people's decision to have or not have the vaccine. And for their families. What I absolutely will not tolerate or respect, is if they passively aggressively flood my facebook or talk at me about why they're right, and I'm wrong, and how they're being persecuted and their civil rights eroded, yah di yah di yah. . . if 'agree to disagree' could become a thing again, that'd be great!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 21/11/2020 18:37

I thought the reason it has been ‘rushed through’ was it has had so much money thrown at it. Several scientists have said this on TV. Normally it takes much longer as funds have to be raised.

I can’t wait to have it. Myself dh and Dd are going on a ‘European tour’ as soon as is possible after it. Brexit may be a problem at passport control though😡

Paris, Nice, Barcelona, Rome, Vienna,Prague and Dublin all on the list

lazylinguist · 21/11/2020 18:37

I'll get the vaccine. I'm a teacher though so back of the queue

I'm a teacher too, but ffs this is a ridiculous martyr-style comment! Teachers won't be at the front of the queue with frontline healthcare workers or the vulnerable, but implying they'll be at the back of the queue because they are teachers is stupid.

Whatwouldscullydo · 21/11/2020 18:37

Don't worry mbo

I dont do that crap on SM...

Pukkatea · 21/11/2020 18:38

@TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince that tour sounds amazing!

55larry · 21/11/2020 18:38

I will definitely have the vaccine as soon as I can. I have diabetes and am 68 so will be in level 4 to get it.

Those saying that they won’t have the vaccine need to be aware that might mean they will not be able to go abroad as some countries might make it a condition of entry as happens with other diseases. Most won’t the risk of the virus coming in.

Neron · 21/11/2020 18:39

Your freedom is just a safe vaccine away

This is the problem.
There are comms out there stating that things will not resume as normal as soon as people have the jab.

reluctantbrit · 21/11/2020 18:39

DH and I will get it and if possible at one point DD hopefully as well.

I want to have my life back, I want to travel and see my mum and my PIL who live in a different country and are over Eighty with health issues. I want to hug a friend and spend time with them.

If that is only possible with a jab then I am more than happy to get it.

TheRealJeanLouise · 21/11/2020 18:39

I was once pondering whether COVID was natural selection in process but now I’m just pondering if it’s actually the vaccine debate......

DrManhattan · 21/11/2020 18:40

Nope

whatswithtodaytoday · 21/11/2020 18:40

Yes please, as soon as possible. I don't know anyone who doesn't want it.

@wanderings The vaccine is absolutely nothing to do with Boris Johnson. There are numerous vaccines being created by different companies, and they will be rolled out worldwide.

Charleyhorses · 21/11/2020 18:41

Yes. .
My elderly Mum will. My immune compromised friends will. I will get it as soon as I can ( I'm 52,so a little way down the list).
Everyone else can make their own minds up. One particular fruitcake on the local Facebook group won't cos they are injecting microchips into you, obviously.
I would let my 13 year old but would let them decide.
I've closed my ears to twenty something's at work saying they won't. I will get it and once I'm immune I literally shan't care.

DressingGownofDoom · 21/11/2020 18:41

Yes, because I trust the experienced and brilliant people creating and testing the vaccines more than I rate the opinion of my mums friend Linda who works in Tesco's.

Georgyporky · 21/11/2020 18:41

I'll have it, but only the UK one.
I don't trust anything American; their food standards are much lower than ours, so I wonder about drug standards.

KEA321 · 21/11/2020 18:42

I will get the vaccination. It's pretty much the annual flu jab set to this virus. I get the flu jab annually. I will let my daughter have it too. My mum wants to have it too.

laxxy · 21/11/2020 18:42

I thought the gov were not aiming to vaccinate the entire population anyway? That's going to take a long time if so

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 21/11/2020 18:42

I know! It’s just dreams at the moment💭

When did it become normal to just dream of even leaving the house again?😥

ilovesooty · 21/11/2020 18:42

No I'm not wary. I'll be having it as soon as I can. I also hope that it will be mandatory for international travel unless someone is clinically exempt.

GrapevineFires · 21/11/2020 18:43

I generally trust vaccines, but I’m also not happy to blindly go into something where long time effects haven’t been studied. Let’s me honest here - we don’t even know enough about the virus at the moment and if there will long term effects from having COVID let alone any vaccines.

So no; I won’t be getting it.

feelingverylazytoday · 21/11/2020 18:44

The Oxford Vaccine has been trialled on children since the beginning
No it hasn't. There are no plans to offer vaccines to under 18s currently in the UK.
No I'm not wary or weary, OP. I will be having it myself at the earliest opportunity - probably late January, and my 2 adult children who live with me will be having it when it's offered to them.

feelingverylazytoday · 21/11/2020 18:45

@laxxy

I thought the gov were not aiming to vaccinate the entire population anyway? That's going to take a long time if so
The aim is to offer a vaccine to all over 18s, hopefully by April.
AWryGiraffe · 21/11/2020 18:46

The only thing I'm concerned about is the number of people who will refuse it.

I will absolutely have it when it's my turn, I'm early 30s so it will be a while for me. I hope my parents (68) will have access to it much sooner.

Thank god for science.
